A long time ago a single scotus judge ruled that corporations have the same rights as people. openining the door to the likes of Jack Abranmoff and the million or as loobyists. I believe that the physical health of each justice is a matter of grave concern, they should not be making decisions under the influece of medications that give them delussions of grandeur. Justlook at the trouble they caused when they put party over country. (Bush VS Gore) true to the proverb, they lost the country and the party. I for one, I want to know what pharma those judges on the court are taking.

To assume the Federalist/Scalia position that the Constitution isn't a living document is at best niave, and at worst foolish.

Federalists want the Constitution to be limited only when it suits them. Scalia in particular is an enormous hypocrite. While railing against Roe-v-Wade at one of his many paid appearances, he doesn't mention that giving African_Americans full rights is EXPRESSLY against the constitution where they are specifically labeled as 3/5th of a person. Alito (another hypocrite Federalist) declares he will follow precedent, then in 3 of his first 5 rulings sides against previous SCOTUS conslusions.

When you talk about "brainwashed liberal" you forget that politics really do stop at the SCOTUS. Warren was a Republican that was liberal. Kennedy appears to be a Conservative even though he is railed against by Republicans for not being right-enough. The reality is that the best SC Justices are willing to abandon their own political dogma on occassion and vote for what's best for the country. Scalia is a poor justice because he can't rise above politics. He loves all the attention he gets, and does everything in his power to aggrandize himself to his former political party and Federalists. Alito is the same mindless formula as Scalia. Roberts seems to truly get it, and I am glad he became Chief Justice. Obama surely will throw some new liberal blood into SCOTUS, but that's good. A split court that debates passionately serves all Americans better, not just the religious or right-leaning.

Balance on the court is a good thing

I hope Obama will select a Liberal justice or two for the court, moderates at any rate. We have staunch Conservatives on the court, a couple of them quite young and likely to be around for decades. It works to the advantage of all Americans to heave the Supreme Court chart a balanced course between strict constructionism and interpreting the Constitution for the 21st century. It is a living document, and when it ceases to breathe, so will our nation.

Wow, it is all the same

I finallly started reading the Heritage writings and I'm not impressed. Sean handiedy speaks this stuff everyday. You all should pay him to repeat your writings or he should pay you all because someone is not thinking for themselves. Tell Sean and the GOP to grow up and stop the lock down in Congress and give Pre. Elect Obama a fighting chance to help America.

Not So Fast

Well Pamela, I think that this news has more reason for the american people to worry than to celebrate. The rule of a one party system in the Obama administration could spell disaster if the government decides to take any unrational actions. Our culture is becoming more impatient and if Obama and the democratic leaders in congress and new supreme court justices begin making drastic changes to "improve" our country they will most likely cause serious problems down the road.

To your other comment I must say that George W. Bush is a bad president, but the list of worst presidents probably starts with James Buchanan. And in order for Obama to be considered the greatest president of all time he must do more than make fancy speeches and get elected. After all he has to beat out Jefferson, Wilson, Roosevelt and Lincoln to top my list.

It is a great day for justice.

It is a great day for liberty.

It is a great day for freedom.

It is a great day, or rather it will be a great day, when George W. Bush, the worst American President, leaves office and is replaced by Barack Obama who (though still unproven) will probably be the greatest American President.

We can look forward to working for peace and justice for all of humanity, instead of doing what the right wing wants, which is to loot the US treasury for the already wealthy, rape the environment, and shove their ideology down our throats.

Republicans in the House are like little kids, school children, squabbling in the playground. They, and their ignorant president, have driven America to the brink.

Thank you Americans for voting for Barack Obama, a man of moral clarity and vision who will lead us out of the swamp where we were dumped by partisans who love to extol their ignorance.
