Uh, have you actually been there? So much of what goes on there is media hype. The Socialist countries which are somewhat in a better place have strict immigration laws, are small countries, and are homogenous. And keep in mind that most live meager lives where cars, houses, etc are considered luxuries. When you reap what you sew you will achieve more, when you don't you will languish as the incentive is gone. The trick is finding the happy medium which so far no one has.

I want a president who knows how to prevent them,who does not see wars as a means of resolving problems, and is honest enough and intellegent enough to see this present war as an unprovoked and illegal war. As for socialism costs..

As for the costs of such socialist programs, please be aware that unless you're making over 150-200k/year, you'll pay more in taxes under McCain than under Obama. The corporate scum, especially in banking raking in $30,000,000+ in bonuses for plundering the wealth of low and middle-income americans, destroying their chances at ownership of a house are the ones who would pay for this. If hard working americans can live making $18,000-$35,000/yr, I'm sure the corporate scum making $2,000,000+ can afford to pay more taxes.

It's interesting that the ruling elite party, the party of the rich people, the republicans have convinced the uneducated, lower class, and 'hard working americans' that they would suffer from socialist programs - when in fact it is the people who are taking away the jobs from the 'hard working americans' - the white older republican cigar smoking business criminals who would have to pay for these social programs - in all likelyhood supporting the very same people they laid off when they moved the sawmill, iron mill, textile company, coal mining, car manufacturing jobs to mexico, china and other cheaper places. The older scumbag businessmen reaping millions more, while at the same time convincing the very same people left without jobs in small towns all across america and bankrupting america.

It's an interesting trick, but somehow the poor have been convinced that socialist ideas hurt them...

There are a bunch of videos, conspiracy theories? Maybe. But what if they carry truth? Are you making $2,000,000+ / year? Do you have riches? If not, maybe you should reconsider voting republican, because they do not have your best well being in mind.

Socialism and Fascism

The two ideologies that contrast the democrats and republicans (neo-con republicans, not paul republicans) are those of socialism (as is practiced in europe today) vs fascism (as was practiced in europe by italy and germany in the 1940's).

Americans, on the other hand, are being spied upon, their right to see a judge when arrested is being challenged, the government tortures people, freedom of speech is being limited, the government sunshine is disappearing, and corporations are running the show on the legislative side (with the help of both main parties, but more so the neo-con republicans).

9/11 happened with a government controlled by republicans. It's time to give democrats a chance to restore the balance and give something back to the people - not the corporations.

Democrats, Liberals or Socialist?

The real question is one of identity. Obama, Edwards, Pelosi and many other Dem leaders are socialist. So who are the true Democrats, and will they win if the nation 'wakes up and gets it'? This could be a disaster for the Dems, with so many Socialist positions on the Obama website. We will have to wait until after the Dem convention to see what the new platform is like. If I were a Dem candidate I would distance myself from Obama, just as McCain is trying to get away from Bush.

Daniel comparing Republicans to suicide bombers proves Sue's point. If your assumption is that people vote for small gov't because they are 'gullible', then i agree with Sue that you wont be in power long.

The "country's largest hate group"---so says Sue. There is no lie too big for Republicans, and (like suicide bombers in the middle east) no limit to the numbers of gullible people who can be enlisted "carry a message" for conservatives of one stripe or another.
