Washington Whispers: Bee Experts Say Money Is Needed to Address Colony Collapse
Not everybody was pleased with our item yesterday about Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer's belief that the government was spending enough money to unlock the mystery of the honeybee crisis. Our pal Kim Flottum, editor of the industry trade journal Bee Culture, blogged that money is the key to solving colony collapse disorder. "Does the USDA even care about the bee crisis?" he asks on his The Daily Green blog. Read it here.

URGENT!!!!!
My name is Emily and I am a sophmore at Naperville North High school. Right now I am in a ecological Biology class and I need a bee expert to email me back about questions I have for a project. Please email me as soon as you can!!!!!
Here are my Questions:
1: Why are all the honeybees dissapearing?
2: What are the consequences of bee declination?
3: What can we do to stop it?
Thank you so much, and again please email me back as soon as you can!!!
Bee food
Why isn't the food bee's eat checked out more. A fellow at Hebron, ND found that the corn syrup he was using to feed his bees were making them sick. I came from the treatment the farmers were using to genetically treat their corn for pesticides.
Sec. Ag Ed Schafer,s coments on $$$ and CCD
As Past President of The American Beekeeping Federation And a speaker at last springs House Ag Sub committee on CCD, I sometimes wonder if anyone in Washington hears a .... Word we say out here in the real world. As a person who had lost over 60% of our bees last year and seeing my neighbors loosing at least that many if not more this year, I am here to say THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS!!! Also as I have stated , and this is through the last 5-6 years, we are seeing a 2-3 year cycle in whatever is going on with our colonies. One year is the worst , the next the best and the next so-so. Now I ask you if you had 4000 head of cattle and 60% died for no apparent reason, do you think the Sec would just brush this off? that's 2400 head of Cattle. That my friends would be considered catastrophic!!!
Call your Senators And Reps. and urge them to support the needed funding for Bee research . We need more tools to figure out the problems and as I have stated before, be proactive not reactive.
