GOP Fundraiser-in-Chief Still Has What It Takes

Posted February 28, 2008

President Bush has started doing what his aides have long predicted in this election year—raising tons of money for Republicans and trying to frame the debate. Last week, he urged GOP governors to support both his warrantless wiretapping program under FISA and his bid to extend tax cuts beyond 2010. "Those are the two big issues facing us: who best to protect America and who best to keep taxes low," Bush said. "I'm excited about taking our message to the American people." Just as important, Bush raised a whopping $10.6 million for the GOP at a dinner in Washington for the Republican governors, showing that he can still rake in big bucks from true believers in his party despite his low job-approval ratings among voters.
