10 Things You Didn't Know About Ted Kennedy

Ted Kennedy for President.
People need to check their history. Ted Kennedy did run for President in 1980 and lost the nomination to Jimmy Carter who in turn lost the Presidential race to Ronald Reagan.
Admiration??
I can see your admiration for the late President Kennedy, but for Sen. Kennedy? He never ran for President because he is a murderer. He was 37 years old, driving drunk, and caused the death of the passenger in his car. Then he waited until he was sober to report it. If not for the delay, maybe she could have been saved. His family name is the only thing that kept him out of prison. You write this off like a simple mistake. How would you have felt if your daughter had been the passenger?
Admiration
I also as a born native of Massachusetts have always admired the
Kennedy family and further felt a great deal of despair for the tradegies that continued to haunt their family. When John F. Kennedy was elected President of the Unitted States of America
I was so excited and pleased that I could hardly stand the joy. I said we finally got a man in office that will do something for this country rather then himself. Nobody will ever convince me of anything different, he was a fine man, and I truly loved him as if he was my brother. I was in the US Air Force and stationed at North Truro AFS,in Massachusetts at the time John F. was murdered working at my part time job as NCO Club manager. A Beer delivery truck pulled up to the loading dock for delivery of an order, and the driver was sitting in his drivers seat just bawling his eyes off. I asked them what was wrong and could I help him? He said no, the President was killed. I thought I didn't hear him correctly and I asked him to repeat himself. He said it again, only he said haven't you heard or seen the news? I said what are you talking about. Then he said it again President Kennedy was killed in Dallas. I couldn't bellieve my ears.. The driver said it's been on the
radio ever since he was shot. I ran in the lounge and turned on the TV, and Walter Kronkike bearly audible chocking up with tears in his eyes was telling how President Kennedy was shot and showing the filming of the incident. I couldn't help what I was feeling and the tears began to flow from the reality of this horrible news. I have never forgotten how he died and I never will. I could not believe in this day and age that someone would dare kill a President....But it happened and this country loss not only a Great President, but a great man as well. Bobby on the other hand was a different than his brother John F., he seemed a little too impulsive and more agressive of a person than I would like to have seen in the White House, but at the same time his principals and ideas were very similar to President Kennedy's. and for that reason I was hoping that he also would get the nomination to be the next candidate for the Presidency. But there again it was not meant to be and he also was murdered by a paid jackass which would prevent us from having another Kennedy as President. I was stationed in Alaska at the time this sorrowful news was announced on the TV. The Kennedy's were plagued with another great Family loss, and the country had to relive John F's death all over again with the assisination of Bobby Kennedy. The evil minds that hated the Kennedy family would not let u[p nand leave them alone. Even with the kind of protection afforded them they were as vulnerable as a common citizen. With his two brothers killed by asassins and being the last of the senior Kennedy family members it would have been unwise for Teddy to run for President even though it's my belief he would have made an
excellent one. He is a Great Man and Senator!
Ted Kennedy
Do you think the crash might be why he has not pushed to be the President. Someone might find out if there was a cover up?
Senator Kennedy
As noted above in the response by the gentleman from Australia – I am sure there is not one day he does not think about the unfortunate incident that occurred on Martha Vineyard. He has to live with that event till his death and still shall face his maker when he passes on. If it was not for that incident he too would have been President; and I think without a doubt! - If he only acted different that horrid day.
His family has been haunted by bad luck and my heart goes out for all their sorrows.
Ted Kennedy has done his best as the Massachusetts Senator and has done a lot of good things too – which should be appreciated.
Senator Kennedy
I'm 54 years old - I'm an Australin born American - A number of years ago I felt I wanted to write to Ted Kennedy to thank him for his and his family's immense political and personal contributions to America - Things got in the way and I'm sorry I just didn't get around to it - Now it's a bit late with his age and all his medical problems - I think people should remember that a human being is a work in progress right to the end - I think Ted will be judged as a truly great contributor to America and her people - a real national asset - The death of Mary Jo was a terrible accident and is quite possibly something that affects him more and more as he ages -
He will be acutely aware of the Kopechne family's pain and despair over the years and I'm sure would have given anything to have had the tragedy reversed - I wish him well and ask that all Americans try and look for the good in this special man and in each other -
Another thing about Ted Kennedy
Mary Jo Kopechne didn't just drown in his car. They were at a party on Marthas Vineyard and they had been drinking. They left the party and then he crashed his car. He got out and her body was still in the car, in the water, 9 hours later.
He didn't know much about where he had been or what he had done during the 9 hours between the accident and reporting the accident. There were many questions regarding this incident that were never answered and Ted Kennedy was not held accountable that I know of. It fizzeled and went away.
If I were a Senator and caught in this situation, I believe I could conveniently not remember the facts, or personally detrimental information and compromising circumstances. Also, if I had money, power, prestige and 9 hours, I think I could buy my way out of a situation like this one. I would cover it up.
This was 40 years ago and I was a young voter then. To this day, I would not vote for Ted Kennedy for anything, including Senator or President. I do not trust his personal integrity or ethics. He did not state enough about the accident to establish his credibility.
I hope he has done a great job for the people of his state, but he is not someone I want to vote for.

UVA Law, Zero Honor Zero Ethics
I thought that UVA had a well respected law school. I guess ethics must be a low priority at UVA Law if they will admit a confirmed cheater into their school. I guess honor is not important at UVA.
Ted Kennedy
Teddy Kennedy enjoys political prominence because he comes from an atypical state (Massachusetts) that also gives America Barney Frank. If the western states were chopped up into Eastern Seaboard size states (like Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, etc.) the federal government would be MUCH more conservative because each of the resulting smaller western states would be entitled to two senators and at least one representative. The states between California and the Eastern Seaboard pay the taxes, and the two coasts suck at the teat. One day, we between the coasts will rebel and blow both coasts into their respective oceans. America will be the better for it.
