Brands to be Mercyhurst guest
Mercyhurst College is very excited to have Professor Brands kick off its look at The Great Depression, The New Deal and Today's Search for Economic Security. Surely, he will bring a valued perspective to the theme of a year-long series of events that Mercyhurst will host on its Erie, Pa., campus. Brands will speak at Mercyhurst Thursday, Sept. 24.
Profit
Mr. President, keep up the good work. Study to show yourself approved; because, as much as you know....there is still more to learn. I applaud you for your efforts on gathering great minds. That is one of the characteristic of a great leader.
You be encouraged Mr. President even though there are many loud, boisterous voices out there; be still in your heart and mind and soar like an eagle. In all labor there is profit. Your hard work will show.
There are much more accomplished historians...
Beschloss, Goodwin...? Puhleease. There are much more distinguished and (really) accomplished historians than these pop historian media hogs Obama met with.
redistribution of blame
It amazes me to listen to people pontificate about the ideals of good governance by slamming the current administration. The previous administration is and was an illustration of contempt for the Constitution,an absolute money sieve, thoughtless integration of religious ideology and political gain, discrimination toward current science - the sort of educational excellence we strive to have our children be made a part- and is simply bent on vilifying the current system interested in helping us to regain our well-fare.
Take an honest look: Are the wealthiest Americans always the hard-working Americans? Are you a hard working American and are you wealthy? Why not? because the lady cleaning public restrooms is from Mexico?
This government is bailing out the wealthiest agencies right now, because they squandered the money in less than reputable fashion: toxic loans, selling more than what clients could possibly afford, and let's not forget about greed and ponzies. If they continued to fail, guess who losses their home and job? So who the hell do they call to help? -the government- and who is being blamed for failed economy? the government. Remember when the problem began; it's not because of the current administration.
How much do you know about finances? Did you study this? Do you know the language and the idiosyncracies? If you do then put it down, otherwise I would offer that there's no way you can comment on what this admin is doing to help the economy. Can you talk about surgical procedures? Then you can't criticize the surgeons.
I'm sick of people talking out of their asses about strategies and policies for which they themselves have no language, understanding, or better ideas. Lambasting this administration for the rush to fix the problem, for working the Congress 24/7 for resolution, and for overhauling health care is lambasting for the sake if idealism and missing the point entirely.
Obama
I think that the thoughts of our founding fathers should be put more in the press. So that people can see that this country was founded on hard work.you should not have to npay for more taxes simply because you work hard an earn more. The govermemt does not belong belong in the car business or the bankig indusrty.AS far as health care,if we must have national health care we should have the same plan as our congress and senate, maybe than they would not be so inclined to pass the health care bill as fast.We must remember they sork for us and not the other way around. What's good for them should be good for us.
Thomas Jefferson...
Well said Stephen...take our "liberal" founding father Thomas Jefferson anyday..
Jefferson's Quotes show that he was the exact opposite of Obama's
"Our tenet ever was… that Congress had not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but were restrained to those specifically enumerated, and that, as it was never meant that they should provide for that welfare but by the exercise of the enumerated powers, so it could not have been meant they should raise money for purposes which the enumeration did not place under their action; consequently, that the specification of powers is a limitation of the purposes for which they may raise money.”
"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government."
"Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases."
"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."
"Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the form of kings to govern him? Let history answer this question"
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. "
"That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves."
"My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."
Hmm, all from Thomas Jefferson....funny how the theme is big government=bad government, that limited government is the best government and that social welfare programs were not supposed to be able to be put in force. Sounds like he's a conservative to me, and although not Christian, was a deist (believed in a God of some kind), sorry to dissipoint those on the anti-religious crusade. The party of Jefferson....yet supporting big government, redistributing of wealth, having the government take care of everyone, massive entitlement programs and so fourth....can anyone say hypocrisy? None of the Founding Fathers supported any form of big government--it was what they feared most.
We as a country need to return to the ideals of the Founding Fathers by cutting government spending and size in all aspects and slashing government control of society. With the exception of Reagen and perhaps Coolidge and Harding, the US has gone downhill throughout the 20th century, and into the 21st with regard to the government size and influence. Those who oppose such measures go against the principles of the Founding Fathers and thus are anti-American by definition.
intellects
I also think if Obama brought Washington..Adams and Jefferson too the WhiteHouse..they would think this clown is a nut..
Intellect is a welcome guest in the White House
I am just glad that the out of touch predecessor who lived deeply in a bubble of denial for 8 years is gone. I am thankful that Obama has brought a brain to the white house, and he actively listens to the voices of people who have expertise that he doesn't have. He isn't surrounded by a bunch of yes men and women who agree with him all the time. He's doing an amazing job, and has it in his heart to achieve good things for this country. Yes, it's too simple to say that all those who oppose him do so for reasons of race. That's ignorant and foolish talk. But don't imagine that there's not a great deal of prejudice at play. But mostly it's hard to believe that so many cling to the past. Get behind our president, we are the USA. He deserves the support of every citizen. He said we can fix this country, and we can. He's just the president, not the answer. It is the USA itself that has the answers in our people. Do something to support your president today. Learn how you can take action instead of just griping about his efforts. He's as straight forward as we are likely to get. It's a great time in our history. A turning point. Embrace your duty. Ground swell action. Let's make the country as great as it can be.
Reid Ridgway
Obvious Economics and the 'Victim Mentality'
Of course, when all else fails resort to the gutter assumption that all who oppose Obama do so because he's black. That stance shows extreme ignorance, self-righteousness and who is really to blame for keeping racism alive in this country. It is the choice of the desperate--or the ideologs who don't know any better and actually believe this sewage.
As for this crab about the anti-minority attitude....look at the statistics about immigrants from Africa coming to the US. They have a very good record of achievement, of living the American Dream, of getting jobs and working hard and living good as a result. Obviously race isn't the issue given that they are as black as the native black population of the US so what is then? The answer is simple, it's attitude. There is currently the feel sorry for yourself attitude in US minority populations who sit and sulk and blame the failures of everything on 'racists' however these people doing nothing is the problem. If immigrants from Africa can do it then so can they--if they ever make up their mind to do so.
As for how this recession started....I addressed that in a previous post, however the 'blame Bush' approach is failing. Reagen didn't repeatedly blame Carter for the financial mess he got us into, which in many ways was worse that what we're in now....interest rates of over 15%, inflation over 10% in addition to 10% unemployment? Instead he worked on getting us out of it. And Bush didn't blame Clinton for the Tech bubble or the lax terrorism surveillance. Guess that shows who are actually men in this country.
Corporate greed? Please, the issues you should be looking at are government tax greed and most importantly union greed. If it weren't for the insane demands of unions, the amount of jobs going overseas be considerably smaller. However the union idea of entitlement has forced companies to look elsewhere for labor, or else go bankrupt like the US auto industry did. At the same time, the US has among the highest corporate income tax rates in the world. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to realize that this will encourage companies to leave and set up their base of operations elsewhere.
I honestly can't say I blame corporations for what they do. The population of the US needs to re-discover it's work ethic, that jobs are 'not a right,' to be content with what you have whenever you can, and to work hard at whatever your job is. The immigrants who fill those jobs nowadays have that old US work ethic--and it's sad that illegals have what the rest of the country has forgotten due to greed and ignorance. Let those who believe that they are 'entitled' to high pay for low skill jobs stay unemployed and off of government assistance, let them stir in their own juice tell they get their acts together.
Some say that such views are anti 'working man,' however the 'working man' has failed to actually work for over a quarter century. 'Working Men' are a dying breed.
