Reagan was stuck with the Cold War, Molly, and he held true to American standards in fighting tyranny and spreading freedom and democracy.
The allusion to 1984 was nice, but doesn't fit the historical facts. American may pressure and spy, but we do not control the lives of politicians in foreign governments or the lives of people that are not citizens. Ahmadinejad and the leader of N. Korea do this to their people, the US doesn't.

To make this comment short and sweet; We all feel for the people,but at this time,that is about all we can do. We have enough problems right here in our own backyard. Our plate is overflowing and before we can do anything else but sympathize,WE have to get a hold on our problems.I hope this doesn't come across as being selfish,just practical. We've played BIG BROTHER for to many countries only to have mud thrown in our faces. And to the person commenting on what President Regan said,REMEMBER, Regan wasn't left holding a bag like the one President Obama has! THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!!!
Lessons from history
President Reagan did not fear the Soviets when he voiced the country's concern of oppressed protestors in Poland and in other satellite countries. He didn't worry about accussations of meddling in "internal affairs". He stood up and told the world that America was going to stand behind free speech and free, democratic governments. But what does Obama do? Just the opposite, and he is going to hurt the relationship the US can have with Iran's people. He wants negotiation, he'll only get it from the protestors because the mollahs and company are not listening. He better learn from Reagan or he is going to continue hostilities between the US and Iran.

There, he (Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to continue building a political and military alliance between Russia, China, Iran and Islamic countries in Central Asia. Clearly, we can see that the Radical Iranian regime is strengthening and solidifying their political, economic and military alliances with countries that would help them become a Greater threat to world peace. Remember, these countries have SELF-Interest strongly in mind and their True Ambitions and Motives are hidden. Moreover, these countries also have a HIGH Percentage of Muslims that are capable of being influenced into Radical Thinking.
Let's hope that the Obama Administration wakes up and realizes that you can NOT Negotiate with Evil. Remember, the main Goal of the Radical Islamic Ideology and False Religion is to DOMINATE the WHOLE WORLD and they will do it by any means possible (Lie, cheat, and steal) .... , set up Sharia Muslim Law to take over Governments and even procure Nuclear Weapons capability to destroy its ENEMIES.

Clearly, Iran's Radical Regime is in Total Control and further bolstering and strengthening their political, military and eoonomic alliances with countries that would help Iran become a Greater Threat to World Peace.
Also, to clarify: The Obama Administration seeks to Reform healthcare .... by proposing a bureacratic, Government run system that would be inefficient at best and curtail the innovative, competitive spirit that would foster "real" growth, ingenuity and JOBS for the American People.

I have heard that the Iranian Protests and Riots are being compared to the Tiananmen Square Protests that happened in China in 1989. It is similar in that innocent, unarmed protesters (Approximately 70% of Iranians who are under the age of 30 ... ie., students, young people who want freedoms like the U.S.A.) were gunned down and suppressed by this Radical regime. These protesters in Iran are crying out for Freedom because they are under this tyrannical, suppressive Regime that denies their citizens of their human rights and dignity. Ever since the Iranian Islamic Revolution started in 1979 when the Ayotollah Khomeini overthrew the Shah of Iran, the Iranian people have suffered under this dictatorship where the STATE controls the lives of its people and censors much of their lives. Truly,the election was "Rigged" and approval was given by the Ayotollah Khamenei, the ONE who's really running the show in Iran to Re-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so that he could continue to be the Voice behind Khamenei's apocalyptic, genocidal ideology ....... where the Radical Muslims believe that by creating chaos and killing the Jews and Christians in Israel and America they can trigger and bring about the coming of the Islamic messiah, better known as the Mahdi. ...... Truthfully, the Obama Administration better get a GRIP on the real and existential threat that Iran poses to Israel and the United States. The Obama Administration is still trying to be diplomatic with a Radical Regime .... they just don't get it...... you can NOT negotiate with EVIL. ..... In fact, as you can read in the news just recently, Russia, China, Iran, and other Islamic countries of Central Asia convened for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

With all this said, I believe the American people should carefully scrutinize where the United States is headed. To be honest, I voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin during the elections because I believed in their sincere Patriotism for this Great Country that we live in called the United States of America where people, irregardless of race, nationality or gender are able to pursue a better future by working hard, persevering and contributing to the economic stability and prosperity of this country and realizing their dreams coming to full fruition. We need "Limited Government" (Not Socialism and more Bureacratic Government controlled and run programs, ie.,Government Controlled Health Care Reform, etc.) and Regulations that will foster Competitive Capitalism (Not Monopolistic Capitalism) where small to medium to large-sized businesses can compete once again in a fair, competitive market to drive down costs of good and services for the American people & at the same time providing the best possible service.
We need to invade Iran...
It's time we invade Iran and do away with that government... We've invaded Iraq, we invaded Afghanistan, we're now invading Pakistan, Iran should be next... Let's just invade them and get it over with... We'll invade them and start turning them into a westernized civilization... The people there are even tired of it...

Iran is closed to independent human rights observers including those of the UN. Iran must be told that its further reliance on violence, curtailment of civil liberties and basic freedoms, widespread arbitrary detentions and disappearances will not earn it public peace or international legitimacy. That message should be delivered by United Nations officials, particularly the Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay. The High Commissioner should move rapidly to send an envoy to Iran to prevent an all-out closure that could lead to serious violence and attacks on protestors undertaken with total impunity. There have already been at least a dozen fatalities due to government forces opening fire. The presence of UN envoys in Tehran and major cities would inhibit the government to contemplate resolving the conflict through the use of force; it would promote accountability and respect for international standards.

So, Mr. Walsh suggesting that Obama's diplomacy is not really working, so what do you want for him to do instead, bomb iran back to the stone age? Yes, and starting immediately WWW number three?
