Behind Obama's Tough Balancing Act on the Economy
With bad news still pouring in, the White House tries to manage expectations
So far, the public has shown strong support for Obama. A new Public Strategies Inc./Politico poll finds that two thirds of Americans trust him "to identify the right solutions to the problems we face as a nation." And 49 percent of Americans say things are "going in the right direction," compared with 40 percent who say "wrong direction," according to the latest Marist poll. Last year, various polls showed that 80 percent of Americans said the country was headed off track.
But the political battle over Obama's economic plans isn't slowing. The National Republican Congressional Committee said it plans to run TV and radio ads and make phone calls accusing 43 House Democrats in swing districts of supporting "a reckless spending" spree by voting for Obama's budget resolution.
Like the economic numbers, Americans' views of the administration's recovery plans are mixed. About 53 percent approve of expanding the government to help fix the economy, according to the Gallup Poll, but most would like to see the government's role reduced once the crisis is over. Also, even though they trust the president, most Americans say Obama's economic proposals involve too much government spending.
All in all, the path to recovery will remain tortuous, and President Obama is doing his best to encourage Americans to be patient.

why bail out the banks
the greedy banks are why we are were we are they will not work with home owners so that they can keep there home instead the raise credit card interest line ther pockets more. If they would help by lowering peoples payments on homes people would make payments stay in there homes spend more because they could with what there morgage payment was dropped. I for one would buy a car pay my credit cards on time hook my cable back up and take my family on a much needed vacation. Would this not help the economy? Would others not do the same? Why does Obama help the banks but not the people the banks have not helped but continue to denie us refiance solutions and have us jump through hoops that don't exsist to only line there pockets more. HELP THE PEOPLE
CHANGE
The only change I see with Obama is what change we have left in our pockets when he gets done with us
