Why Obama Has Shifted to the Positive on the Economy
He takes advice to become more upbeat about the future in hopes of boosting public confidence

Government has legitimate jobs
Yes, our government has legitimate jobs to perform in our society but that does not equate to Obama's Socialism. It is the duty of government to provide infrastructure, the opportunity for education (under local control), police and firefighters(under local control) to provide for "common security" and a free market system that allows for "the pursuit of happiness", a strong military to provide "for the common defense" and lastly to allow for personal freedom.
These are not the actions of our Jr Senator.
Socialism-hmmmmmmmm?
I hear a lot now about Obama bringing 'socialism' into our country. What tripe. We already have very well functioning things that strickly speaking, are socialist. Our fire departments and police departments, the postal system, the VA, any service that is provided for the public by our tax dollars are, definatively, socialism. Even the concept of FEMA is based on socialistic principles. If our public school system were as well run as it should be, that as well, is socialism. The public highway system. We have a republic, strickly speaking, not a democracy- look it up in the dictionary. Those that carp about socialism should know more about what they speak before defaming something they have yet to understand.
Obama's budget package
For all you nay sayers out there, you should read Friedman's "Hot, Flat and Crowded" to see what this world and our economy needs. His very consise and factual presentation is a well rounded explanation of what we are facing. In order to secure the planet's crisis on not only global warming, the need for renewable and clean energy will give access to the next crisis we are already facing world wide: availability of clean, drinkable water. Renewable, clean energy will provide not only electricity to power all that we already have that is dependent on it, reduce our need for shrinking oil deposits, but provide the mechanism for locating and bringing up water supplies and purifying water. IF you are capable of long range planning, you can see that renewable, clean energy development is the next technological boom market. If the US doesn't develope this technology in a way that is affordable and manufactured, another country will.
To do this, we need to upgrade our educational system, which is already behind much of the world in math and sciences. That is a given, for anyone who has any contact at all with reality.
To manufacture those products, we must have a base that is competitive in the world market. When every other industrialized country has universal health care, their manufacturing base is free of the cost for supplying this to their workers; the US is not, and those cost are incorporated into the price of goods...that's why Toyota can manufacture cars that are more competitive in the US than the ones we manufacture, and why they have had the cash to increase milage while keeping them road safe. Plus, other countries have added taxes to the price of gasoline for years rather than subsidizing prices, and they were prepared for the rise in gas prices with cars that were fuel effiecient. That rise in gas prices is not over, meerly sleeping, and when it rises again, unless the US changes its policies in milage demands we will again not be able to deal with it; our economy will again suffer.
Obama's budget plans for this. It is the first budget in over 20 years that is a blue print for the well being of not just today, but for good jobs for years to come. He has managed to keep his head after having the house of cards that Bush built fall down before he even took office. No one planning for their future would do so without long range thought, no portfolio would be safe without such planning. And neither will the future of America, the future of our children or grandchildren. The deregulation that begain under Reagan and has continued since caused major destruction that cannot be changed in a day but it can have its' course changed so that destruction will not continue. It can be altered so that it never happens again, and a new foundation is built that will begin to create new technologies and industries of production and maintainance and distribution that will bring new, long lasting and well paying jobs.
More harm than good
It would have been better for the "Great and Powerfull Obamanists" to just keep his mouth shut and do nothing than the series of Socialist announcements he has made.
Anybody notice what's happened to the markets, main street and the general world view of America's economy? Even China believes the US is a bad credit risk these days. As for opposing views of the Republicans? How about behaving like a responsible adult and cutting government waste and spending (like he promised), begin paying of our debts as a nation and attending to the immediate needs of our country? Thanks to GWB, the wars ARE winding down (rather you agreed with them or not), and Obama could try to "sell" his agenda WHEN we can afford it (whether you agree with being a socialist or not). Minimal GOVERNMENT intervention to lessen the pain of the "economic correction" we are experiencing is the correct course. Free markets ALWAYS face necessary pricing corrections and the more government tries to "stop" it, the worse it gets. Help the people in need, make it worthwhile for free enterprise to risk investment and we'll rebound just like we always do. Turn the US into a "socialist" economy and we'll sink into oblivion.
Socailism has and will never work and undermines what the US is all about.
Stop Whining
It's tough out there for almost everyone these days. Stop the whining and stupid comments about Obama who hasn't been in office for more than 6 weeks and try hard to find positive things about each day ... not things that you don't have but things that you do have that you are grateful for. That's a good first step.
Hmmmm...
Still no advice from the GOP. Or anyone else for that matter. Just a lot of hot air.
It's politics. Empty, useless, political posturing. Hateful, slimy, politics.
The Republicans are angry. (Just look at the veins in John McCain's neck for an example.) The Democrats are along for the ride. (Just look at the comments about the Great and Powerful Obama.)
As was pointed out, Obama has been in office a whole 6 weeks.
And yet, as political enemies take pot shots at the president, they offer NOTHING in place of what is offered.
NOTHING! There is no alternative plan, suggestion, or discussion about what else could be done.
Every day, people expound on everything that is wrong. They NEVER offer any strategy that might help the world situation.
Example of the smoke and mirror nature of government:
"Pork barrel spending" is an integral feature of American Government. But people forget all about that and try to hold it up as something THEY have discovered!
Obama is the President of the United States. A tough job in good times. Obama didn't create the recession, he is trying to fix it, just like anyone else who might have gotten elected.
I submit that if McCain had been elected, he would have to make the same hard choices.
Political garbage aside, it's the Economy.
The horrible, unworkable economic and political wreckage of America.
On the upside, if we could capture all the negativity and hot air coming from the blowhards (Limbaugh for example), our energy problems would be over!
It's necessary
In the face of extreme hardship, I think any president with great ambition would try to take positive measures. Because as a president, he must be responsible morally and legally for all the people who voted for him. In fact, it's more exact to say that what the president takes is a positive attitude. As regards the previous reversed proposition, I think it is a strategy more than a trueth.
Although,it's necessary to take positive measures, the actual effection could not be predicted. It would perhaps be at the opposite ends or any place between them. So the best thing left to us is to pray God to help.
Obama is an Economic IIlliterate
Today Obama said that the Dow Index was just like an overnight political poll! That statement shows he is totally ignorant about the financial markets. He should know the the market is the most reliable forecaster of the economic outlook ever devised by man.
The markets reflect what investors think will happen 6 to 12 months in the future, not what it is today. If the market liked Obama's policies, it would have shown a positive response to the Stimulus, and his Budget and other pronouncements. Instead, all the major index's dropped big time after each was released. 3000 point drop in the Dow since the election on Nov.4,08! 2700 point drop since he took office on Jan.20th.! That represents close to $4,000.000.000.000 - yes - 4 Trillion in our collective wealth! All this has been taken from Pension funds, retirement savings, IRA's & 401K savings plans. Thirty years of the collected hard earned wealth of Main Street America (From the end of Jimmy Carter on.) And these figures don't include the Trillions of dollars of lost real estate values.
So far,Obama has taken a tough situation and made it much much worse with no end in sight. All this in just 6 weeks!
I hope the Arabs and China continue to buy our Treasury Bonds as they are the only ones who can finance this huge additional debt because if they don't, were screwed.
Oh, enjoy that $13 per week tax cut that starts April 1st because its the last one you will see for many many years to come.
Positive on the economy!?!
How can I or anyone who is in the same situation be positive about anything when I have another weekend of unemployment looming ahead of me. I keep trying to find any Recovery programs, activities, services, etc that might actually have an effect on individuals. However, the only thing I keep reading about in all the different Whitehouse blogs, news, transparency postings or any other area with information is about the programs to help build roads, bridges, aviation and other such projects. I would like to know how much funding is being filtered down to the actual people who are providing the funds. I mean all this money that is being printed up is money coming mainly from individual taxpayers, right? If it wasn't they all the big bail outs would not have needed to occur. If all the big business that have recently been bailed out had money to pay their taxes then they would not have had to been bailed out right? So behind all this great recovery efforts and accountability transparency where is the money coming from and why don't the people supplying the money get to just elect to give their own money back to themselves (sort of a self bail out) instead of it going to everyone else?
It seems like a very basic and easy question to answer. Why can't any of the great economic planners, recovery advisors and speech makers give us a simple answer, instead of just going around and around about why we are at this point in our nation and how we have to bear through it?
I say to all the taxpayers whose money is being used, just take it back tell your local government representatives that you chose not to give the money away; in fact, you would like all the money that has been given out in the great bail outs back and please put your share of it into your savings, checking, or retirement account thank you very much. To the President and all officials I ask how long will my utilities stay on if they don't get paid? How am I suppose to pay them if it takes up to 6 weeks to get unemployment? How am I or anyone like me suppose to sing a happy tune?
The Economy May Die, But We Do Not Have To
The health crisis, environmental crisis, and the financial crisis have their solutions in simplicity. We are polluting our air, land, water, air and food and ourselves to death and trying to hold onto the system. Our system is wrong and it is coming down. The good news is there is a better system to replace it, true freedom and independence. The goal in life is not employment; that was our error and it caused the world problems. We can turn to a "Garden-Paradise-Retirement-Lifestyle" by beginning to choose trees, plants and animals that provide fresh food around us. If our communities have abundant food, we can take people into our homes; if there is no free food, there will be violence and thefts to get it.
One book has the information we need to transition to this freedom. It is 913 8x11' pages for $19.77 at Amazon. More on the reasons to turn to the garden paradise lifestyle, how to do it cheaply, and about the content of the book are available at http://garden-paradise-retirement-lifestyle.blogspot.com . I will make 4% of the sale if you buy it at the link I provide, but you will save knowing where to buy the book cheapest, save you from needing to buy several books to confidently begin the Garden Paradise solution for this financial meltdown. All these unemployed people can begin planning how to landscape their surroundings with fruit trees and vegetables. The name of the book is Encyclopedia of Country Living. It is about time to plant some vegetables, fruit bushes, trees and vines. The book has sources for purchasing animals and more.
Check ordinances about one pet goat or sheep and chickens. They are no larger than cats or large dogs. If they are not allowed, start petitioning the city to allow them and to allow use of land in the land trust to be used for community gardens. The goats, sheep and gardeners will save the city the cost of mowing these lands several times a year. It is a benefit for all sides. This will be necessary and will turn our stress and sorrow over the unemployment and financial crisis into joy.
