Rise

There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don't know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president.

Hi Marie,

I would like to know what proof you have that the Holy Bible is read in the schools of Russia and Jordan. Are you an international traveler or where is your info coming from if not 1st hand? Do you actually believe that people will stop shopping or going out to eat on Sunday or whatever day you refer to as the Sabbath? Why should teachers post the Ten Commandments on the bulletin board in their classrooms? Jesus Christ did not invent government in America and students should not have to recite the Bible in school or listen to prayers or scripture readings over the intercom. The Puritans and others used the Bible for required reading in education classes, modern Americans do not. Prayer in schools. What if you & your child don't share the beliefs of the teacher, would you want teacher led prayer then? Baptists & Episcopalians don't agree on very much. One prays long winded prayers from their heart or "off the top of their heads." The other reads from "The Prayer Book." Do Methodists want a Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Mormon, or Scientologist to lead classroom or football game prayers? Prayer in schools should only be done silently! Look what happens when there is NO SEX EDUCATION IN THE HOME, SCHOOL, OR CHURCH. Gov. Palin's daughter sneaks around, has premarital sex, births a baby and isn't married. That's probably what makes you upset. What makes me upset is that the baby isn't spending time with his daddy. Parents of a child should be living together & both spending time with child rearing activities whether they are married or not. When do Bristol & her boyfriend get to spend alone time together. Do they still have to sneak around. If they're going to get married, fine go ahead, but they ought to be living together & giving emotional support to each other and the baby they made. That is called being RESPONSIBLE for your actions. By the way is her boyfriend paying child support?

The US Constitution Has No Separation of Church and State

If "Separation of Church and State" were in our Constitution, it would not mean we must ignore God's wisdom in the Bible. That would be ignorance.That would leave us only with the wisdom of man and we see our system falling apart with that. The phrase never was in our Constitution. (Religion means denomination.) The word of God in the Bible is used by many thousands of religions or denominations. The Qur'an says to follow the whole Bible; Jesus said to live by EVERY word of God.

The First Amendment to the Constitution says:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press;

or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

(Note: Congress is the House of Representative and the Senate.)

The Constitution allows states to do whatever they want according to their laws. Example: when Christ comes to establish His kingdom on earth, some states might want to be a part of that kingdom, meaning they would follow the laws of the king.

If Barack Obama puts restrictions on the Faith Based Initiative Programs, he will be against the Constitution by preventing the free exercise of their religion.

Notice no one of the Obama Transition Team or the religious groups were asking to restore the Ten Commandments to the classrooms, make the 7th day a Sabbath of no work as the Ten Commandments say, or allow the Bible to be read in schools as they do in Jordan and Russia.

Sex education and promotion of condoms have produced a culture of unwed mothers and sexually transmitted disease, so much so that we want to vaccinate 13 year old girls and up to prevent cancer of the cervix caused by fornication. When the word of God is lifted into view, we will see the honorable nation we were meant to be; and we will be protected by the hand of God according to His word.

Religion

The article above makes me think that Obama is being washey washey and I just get the feeling actions speek louder than words and religion is not the top of his books. If anything what Christian would stand for abortion. Sterilization, and we have had sex education in our schools for years which is not working. Parents need to be the one to teach about sex education and most of American parents just want to let everyone else do their job.

Religion

Gee, I took a course in American many years ago, and distinctly remember the professor making the point that our society specifically prohibits the establishment of a state religion, and simultaneously protects an individual's right to practice their religion! Guess the ACLU should be involved here? The Democratic Leftists squealed for years about the Christian Conservatives in the GOP under Bush. How different is this? Leave religion to it's believers, where it belongs. Any attempt to manage faith through the government sounds like the Catholic Church in medieval Europe. Martin Luther must be laughing in his grave!

Education for at-risk inner-city schools

Laura Bush is concerned and involved with the education of

at-risk children; also Colin and Alma Powell.

Please check out streetschoolsnetwork.org formerly called

NASS (national association of street schools)

Founder, Tom Tillapaugh, began his first street school in

Denver in 1986. The national organization began in 1996.

Tom has spoken at summits in Washington D.C. called to

address the concern for High School drop-outs.

You can also read about Tom by researching his name via

google or yahoo.

Obama outreach staff

Judas goats lead the innocent to slaughter. Similarly Mark Linton leads Catholics, softened by decades of justice & peace infiltration, to support a socialist president, complete with the socialist sacraments; abortion, sterilization, sex education and contraception.

It's time for serious Catholics to remove their children from public schools and to guard their families from the devastations caused by failing to follow authentic Catholic teaching.

UU vs fundamentalists

Liz, glad you mentioned Unitarian Universalists! Madelyn Dunham was indeed a UU member. In Atlanta & many other cities there is an active UU subgroup called CUPPS that is Neo-pagan/Wiccan/Earth Centered spirituality. I am not a UU member but do very much admire that they are the opposite of the fundamentalists (intolerants) and while I'm mentioning fundamentalists I believe they ALL are intolerant & intolerance is bad for EVERYONE. Whether they are jihadists, Dr. James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Ayatollah Komeni, the theocracy of Iran, all these fundamentalists are dangerous to peace and tolerance, ALL of them! Most of the voting public in America are moderates and probably in many other countries as well. Radical people on the right or left are often intolerant. People write about a "center right" country. That is a HUGE myth, especially given the last election and the exit polling data! George McGovern didn't win.........too liberal. Neither did Barry Goldwater.....too conservative. Obama is making appointments very carefully, deliberately, cautiously. He is a moderate despite what the Republicans told us during the last election! The proof is in the pudding. People who disagree with me, that's fine, let's wait & see.

No tax exemption for discriminiation

I was a member of a fundamentalist church for nearly 30 years. Believe me, their focus was not on "helping the poor," or anybody else in need, except one of their own or someone they thought they could convert. I am all for allowing churches to exclude anyone they want to exclude, call anything they want sinful. But not if they want to get federal money for whatever their programs are. This is just another way Bush has perverted the constitution. They already get tax exemption, in exchange for staying out of politics, and we see how well that has worked out. We need to either take away tax exemption and let them interfere in politics all they want, and refuse to hire/not allow to participate anyone they please, or we need to crack down on preachers who tell their parishioners how to vote, and stop giving them secular tax money while allowing them to continue their religions exclusivism. If they are truly motivated by philanthropic principles rather than evangelism in their charitable efforts, they will welcome help from anyone in effectively using their own as well as federal money to get the job done. If they want to stay exclusive while raking in taxpayer cash, they obviously are not genuinely altruistically motivated.

Unitarian Universalists

If we're going to have any kind of input from faith-based entities, the group should include Unitarian Universalists. This group respects and embraces beliefs of a hugely diverse variety, from atheism to agnosticism to Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and others. People of all races, genders, creeds, and sexual orientations are welcomed. What we do not believe is in foisting our beliefs on others. Obama's grandmother's memorial service was held at a Unitarian church so I'm hoping we've already been included.
