Sotomayor's confirmation

Well, we finally got through another Republican dog-in-the manger sideshow. The GOP's strategy, ever since their party was shattered in last year's national elections, is simply: "I don't care if it's for the good of the country; if the Democrats are for it, we're against it." This strategy will ultimately work against the Republican party and also seriously undermine the welfare of the country. The GOP cannot undo the damage created by the Bush administration. What they can do, and haven't done so far, is recognize that the USA must move forward to regain the social, economic and political leadership of the free world that it once possessed. Categorically opposing any and all Democratic initiatives, without any basis in reality, is not the way to accomplish it. A political party's succeses is not built on ignorance and blind stubborness but on a realistic recognition of the broad tasks that our country faces and a willingness to set aside partisan passions in order to

successfully complete those tasks.
