Memos Describe CIA's Harsh Interrogation Program

PEOPLE, COME ON

Im 17 and I know that no matter what kind of "interrogation techniques" used against terrorist will not get any information out of them. If they are willing to DIE for their missions, do you really think threats such as execution, or torture are going to move these people? Of course not!

Now What?

So now that Pres. Obama has withdrawn the forms of torture/fact finding techniques that has been a part of our nation's history, how does HE propose to interrogate terrorist prisoners. What means will he let the CIA use to get the answers that will keep us safe. If it isn't somewhat brutal, if it isn't somewhat painful, the answers will not be forthcoming. In addition, terrorists expect this treatment if caught, and risk it anyway.

I can't bear the thought of torture. And I question whether there is sadism on the part of the torturer. I believe there often is. But this is not crucifixion, it's not the rack, it's not burning at the stake, it's not gutting a person who still lives after the gutting, it's not whipping, and it's not sawing the head off a man as a threat to other prisoners.

In retrospect then, interrogation has come a long way in treating prisoners to get answers. But waterboarding is horrendous.. Forcing difficult positions for long periods of time is cruel. Solitary confinement is horrible.

Tell me Pres. Obama, what DO we do?

Did they read it or not?

Did the people who are condeming these action read the memos front to back, like they did with the AIG bonuses. I thought the CIA did more then just waterboarding. At least Bush took steps to keep us safe, right.

Wake Up Kool Aid Drinker!!!

Do you think the mental torment these men went through even compares to the mental torment of all the families that had friends and relatives in the Twin Towers on September 11th? What about the mental torment that has been caused on all our children that witnessed September 11th? Are you serious!!!! These men have gotten off easy in my mind. And one more thing, screw you and your scientific research. We are talking about real life and real death here. I thank God for President Bush and his administration on keeping us safe. I am now praying to God to save our country from this horrible President of ours that is bring "Change We Can Believe In". And that change is not positive.

Think twice!!!

Some say they have not seen a detainee with a missing finger, foot, ... and believe that the 'suspects' did not go through a horrlble treatment. But if they realise the mental torment which they went through, perhaps their view could be different. We have the scientific research which says, 'Mental And Physical Torture Do The Same Psychological Harm' - http://www.news-medical.net/?id=22424

Hence, whether the torment was physical or mental, the result was the same...

Rome is Burning

The Rookie President does it again.

First the economy. He's screwing that up with the stimulus package. Buckle your seat belts, folks, you should expect hyper-inflation in 2010 or 2011. Economically speaking, you can call this the Carter II Administration.

Next, the G20 where he bows to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. NO President of the United States bows to any other head of state. As heads of state, they are equals. Only a slight nod towards the other as he did with Queen Elizabeth is proper. I am afraid that we have Neville Chamberlain incarnate in our current President relative to anything remotely related to US foreign policy.

Now, with neither military nor intelligence gathering experience whatsoever, Mr. Obama, and his sidekick, Mr. Holder, have released highly classified, sensitive material, which aids and abets enemies of the United States. The oath of office includes the phrase, "...preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." He missed this one, too! Just as a criminal loses his/her rights upon conviction of a crime, the same is true for terrorists when they do harm to the United States, as was done on 9/11, or are captured in a war zone as happened in Afghanistan. The radical Islamic terrorists that the world faces today cherish death as much as we cherish life. They think nothing of killing innocent civilians if it will further their misguided cause. With an enemy such as this, the only position that it understands, and may even respect, is overwhelming power. Anything less, and we are perceived as weak-minded, gutless and easily overcome. The US does not torture. As has been reported in numerous venues, the radical Islamist DO torture. Water boarding, sleep deprivation, or exposure to load noise or insects is anything BUT torture. From my view, we should continue and enhance the practices implemented under President George W. Bush and continue to be absolutely firm with enemies of the US. That includes retaining GITMO if it furthers the extraction of information from enemy combatants. Finally, Mr. Obama's actions add to his portfolio of socialist actions (not tendencies) that will continue to do harm to our country and also further emboldens one of our very own domestic threats, the American Communist Liberties Union, aka the ACLU.

In conclusion, Mr. Obama's actions have placed one more nail in the coffin of the late, great United States of America.

This is such a sad joke

We compare waterboarding, isolation, loud music, and slaming detainees into walls to the horrible treatment that out military has been subjected to over the years. I haven't seen any one of the detainees missing a finger, foot, "head" or with multiple broken bones.

I would like to know what this country believes is the correct actions to take in preventing further attacks on Americans.

The people that have sworn to protect us do so at great risk to themselves and all we seem to do is attack them.

It reminds me of the scene from a movie, "you don't want to know how I do my job, but you damn sure want me to do my job” or something like that.

I say do anything necessary to protect our country short of “permanent” bodily injury. Keep in mind these guys aren’t some weakling at the beach that is being picked on, they are killers that hate Americans an dwould done anything to attack us again and again.

We should remember

that whatever a government reserves as a "right" to do to un-named others, it also reserves as a right to do to you. All that is different is the jello-like definition of WHO is a "combatant", or WHO is a suspected terror collaborator.

Obama is right to shock us a little bit, and he is also right to not go on witch hunts in a prior administration. We have plenty else to command our attention and effort.
