shredding
I am a diabled vet, i live in columbia SC. As far as I know the medical portion of my treatment is correct I was just rejected on an appeal the VA stated they did not receive my records from my former employer so I got the information and hand delivered to the regional office in Columbia Sc I am currently receiving benefits and just received a denial letter for which they stated they never received the first appeal in March of 08. They stated this was not an appeal but reapplying for an increase which was not so. I will now have to re organize all the documentation plus prove I originnally applied for the unemployability back in March 08.I did verify with my former employer they did send the paper work requested within 3 days of the request. I obtained the copies one month after the original request when I called the 1-800 line for a status on my appeal
paper shredders
that is not the only issue they do bad for the veterans after they honorably served for 20+ yrs. offer a page for the veterans stayed their complaint against the VA representative for their area. you don't even have Puerto Rico in the territory or state area in this add.
veterans benefits being schredded
anybody schredding veterans claims should be fired. Nobody knows how important those are to us veterans. God bless our brave troops.
Paper shredder
Paper shredders are a simple solution to destroying many of the documents and materials that hold private information.Taking simple steps, such as purchasing a paper shredder, can help you avoid a lot of pain and suffering in the future.
Paper Shredders
Wow what a great selection of crafts you can do with paper shreds. I have been researching composting and paper shredding and you have given me more ideas on what to do with those shreds of paper. Thanks.
The pain gets worse as I age and my health gets worse
My Army Lt.Dad Theodore Rowman did not live to see his grandchildren, his WWII assigment for a special mission was participation in the invasions of France to help free those in concentration camps No information was ever provided to help me find closure. My health will not allow me to travel and see his grave & to tell my Dad I will never forget him or stop loving him Cheated by not knowing how different my life could have been if he came home from the war, My mother remarried right away ,never looking into the benefits that were available for me, THE EDUCATION THAT WOULD AFFORDED me a better life to provide my childrn more options for their education, It took 50 years to locate a blood relative, I found my Father's mother claimed my Dad was her main support and a bold face lie. She had a big paid off home & a family window washing co., that my dad was part of before entering the service. I ended up disowned by my Father's mother his brothes and sister. My mother's new husband, also an Army Lt, convinced my Mother she could not live on what she would receive from the VA for the death of my Dad. This man nothing like my Dad caused me to leave home at 17 unaware of the consequences. In finding my Father;s family almost 50 years later It was clear I was not wanted. My father was the youngest of 4 and chose the Army to be hs career,in trainng to be a pilot, ground forces were needed more. Now as 2nd Lt he became a relacement officer on a reconnaisance mission and killed when a mine exploded.
After graduating from hish school he had served 2 years in the Army and discharged as a corporal,
I can only be greatful that he died instantly and a positive ID made.He was on the front lines doing reconnasaince, A mine exploded and he was killed instantly .His family connection, entering the army in 1937 after graduating from High School in NH ,the youngest son born to the Rowman family who managed to pull off making his mother his dependent, selling a large paid off home and put into a federally subsidized studio apt. Our country a disappointment, those who sacrifice the most some have ended up homeless. I did not fit into the 'new life' my mother chose 7 months afte the passing of my father my mother's new husband the opposite of my Dad spent the funds listed as the 'minors estate. If I could only visti my Dad's grave in Epinal France and confirm he did exist it could help the appeture I have found myself in most of my life. God bless those in the same position now. I pray the children are not forgotton like those who were kept with silence and secrets. I am one of thousands of orphans each having their own stories with most of them sad. my generation known as the "lost" one.
Combat Veteran 1969-70
A VA social worker helped me to fill out forms for delayed stress syndrome in a 1980 VA mental health clinic. Delayed stress syndrome became known to the VA as PTSD on April 11, 1980. I was told to file another claim in 1993 for PTSD and finally received a 100% rating in 1995. I put in for earlier effective date going back to 1980 and used the notes from my 1980 social worker as evidence. The VA says they cannot locate my original claim service connection and denied the entitlement to which I was denied all those years because of a missing piece of paper. The VA has proof and agrees that I was at the VA mental health clinic in 1980, diagnosed with delayed stress syndrome, had the required symptoms, proved service connection, and it was all written on the 1980 social worker's notes. But the benefit of doubt, for even an informal claim, does not exist without locating the original claim. It is as though I fabricated the whole story, except the 1980 social worker's notes were located on April 1, 1998. It is 2009 and the Court just denied my claim for an earlier effective date after a decade of fighting for it. Just keep in mind that I left the service with these symptoms in 1970. The guys getting out right now have a long fight ahead of them as we have recently seen the exposure of the systematic shredding of documents vital to VA claims.
lack of care and criminal disregard for our vets
why oh why haven't many Vets filed a class action suit against the V A also petition all the drum beaters Limbaugh ,O 'riely, Hannity etc. all the so called patrotic commentators to do something FOR the vets not just lip service they practice every day!

VIETNAM VETERANS BEWARE
I am writing this letter to bring to your attention to what I feel is yet another unfair treatment of the Vietnam Veterans in our country. “USA Today” states that one-in-four homeless people are veterans, now you can add VA benefits to the list of injustices for veterans.
I was hospitalized for a heart attack in January 2008, at the time much to my disbelief I was diagnosed with diabetes. The heart attack resulted in emergency four-way bypass surgery. My surgeon stated after the surgery that my heart attack and bypass surgery was a result of diabetes, and that I had probably been diabetic for years.
My wife ran into friends at the hospital who’s son after a tour in Iraq had also been hospitalized, and they asked my wife “Didn’t Kim serve in Vietnam?”. After a long conversation they recommended my wife contact a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) advocate. During my recovery my wife initiated a claim with the VA through the advocate. We gathered medical records, filled out reams of paperwork, secured a statement from my endroconologist linking my diabetes to my heart disease, had numerous meetings with my VFW advocate, and then started the ball rolling by submitting all the information to the VA. Then I was required to see QTC doctors through the VA for evaluation. In late August, we received a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs that my diabetes was linked to exposure to herbicides in Vietnam, and that I would receive 20% disability for my diabetes - my heart disorder according to the VA was not related to my military service.
I was in shock! - both my surgeon and my endroconologist had made a connection between heart disease and diabetes - what in the hell was the VA talking about. To think that I only got 20% amounting to $321.00 a month for my diabetes, a direct threat to my life, is beyond my comprehension - to think you have to lose limbs due to diabetes to get 40% disability! As it turned out I found out that there are attorneys that specialize in veterans disability claims, and my advocate, and other advocates stated that you have to fight for what you have coming. One VFW advocate stated that there are thousands of Vietnam Veterans who have died because they did not get the benefits they deserved, and that the list of diseases from exposure to herbicides in Vietnam Veterans is growing daily. My wife saw it all coming - she had read that the Bush Administration wanted to keep VA benefits at or below 20%.
I went on-line and in a matter of minutes found dozens of sites making a connection between heart disease and diabetes from studies all over the world. Consequently, my VFW advocate has submitted to the VA (VA form 21-4138) additional statements from my primary care doctor, my cardiologist, and my endroconologist along with dozens of downloaded documents and studies all linking heart disease to diabetes. My endroconologist went so far as to state that it is his strong opinion that my heart disease was a direct result of my diabetes. How could the VA have not made the link? If I had appealed my case through normal channels it could take up to seven years for the appeal process - thank god my advocates knew a better way to submit my benefit claim.
Presently, I am still emersed in the process, but I have to thank my lucky stars everyday for the assistance I have received from my VFW advocate - without him I would have given up. Also, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about other veterans who are not aware that the diseases they are suffering from could be a direct cause of having served their country in Vietnam - free testing needs to be available to any of these Veterans to find out about the state of their health, and if it is related to having been exposed to herbicides. It is despicable that veterans have to fight for benefits they deserve. I feel like a “disposable soldier”.
