Thats funny that you would say that morrmons are polygamist when it is clearly stated that we abandoned that practice over a hundred years ago, the members of the FLDS church are in no way associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints (AKA Mormons). If you did your research instead of relying on what media says you would know that your accusations are incorrect. Good day to you caroline

counterintuitive

It's rather ironic that the Mormon church, of all things, would be fighting non-traditional marriage (polygamy, anyone?). They're such homophobic hypocrites.

its ok to be gay

Proposition 8

Civil marriage has nothing to do with religeon!!! The catholic church does not marry divorcess, city hall does. Many churches will not mary couples of different religeous backgrounds, city hall does. Since gays and straights both pay taxes for city hall services, should gays get a tax break for the lack of representation?

How does gay marriage affect my hetero relationships at all? How does it affect my faith? Seeing people make a loving committment is a good thing! I am shocked at how much hatred is being spread (using the word of God), about people who want the same civil rights as others.

I am not interested in Utah politics. I don't know or care how they run the state. I do resent the mormons butting into the way California is run. Keep your beliefs inside of your church and your home. Don't try to ram it down my throat or the throats of gays who will never come to your church anyway!!!

Let them worship how, where or what they may

Flora wrote: "so why aren't all Mormons voting No on Prop 8, to let "them" worship how, where, or what they may."

Proposition 8 is not about freedom of worship, and it is not about separation of Church and State. The citizens of California need to decide whether they believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Proposition 8 does not limit homosexual beliefs or practices and it does not limit gay rights in any way.

Proposition 8 will clarify that marriage is between a man and a woman. The societal benefits of strong families anchored by a strong marriage between a man and a woman are undeniable. Men and women have unique emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual attributes that complement each other. This is not so much a matter of religion as it is a matter of sociology.

It is possible to protect and preserve gay rights without redefining marriage.

We can protect Marriage and Gay Rights

40 percent of the campaign's overall donations have come from members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This involvement of Mormons is attributable significantly to our beliefs defined in “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” and a letter from the First Presidency of the Church encouraging members in California to devote their time and resources to supporting Proposition 8.

Our support for Proposition 8 is not evidence of bigotry, hate, prejudice, or discrimination against homosexuals. It is evidence of a clear understanding of the importance of the marriage contract and the central role that families play in the stability of our nation, our economy, our society, and our world. Children have a right to be born within the bonds of matrimony. Men and women have unique physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual characteristics that compliment each other and when all of these characteristics are brought together in the marriage relationship, they have the potential to bring children into the world and to fortify them with all of the support that they need to be successful in this life.

Gay rights are important. We must take action to protect the rights of homosexuals, but we do not have to redefine marriage to accomplish this. Gay rights can and must be established and preserved while also preserving and fortifying marriage by clarifying that marriage is a contract between a man and a woman.

Vote Yes on 8

It's not about equality. Gays are not a minority, was even refuese minority status, why should they dictate what I can believe or what marriage means to me. The issue has already begun in schools, a letter just the other day in the SF school where my daughter goes has posters supporting it, why do these belong in elementary school, before the child can even be explained the reasons, uncalled for. VOTE YES on 8, save our beliefs.

Give Me a Break

If gay folks want to get married, why not? It'a not like it's going to have any effect on non-gay married folks. Remember, same-sex unions don't produce any new offspring... this could actually be good for our overpopulation problem.

so disappointed

I am so disappointed that people in USA are so bigot and how are you supposed to say "freedom, equality" everyday loud to the world!!!

I have to say you morons who vote yes on 8!!!!!!!!!Sorry ,plz do not feel offended,I am just so disappointed that people just become so discriminated!!

vote nooooooooooooooo on 8!!

We also need equality!!!!

No more nature crap!!!!
