Voters Deadlocked on Same-Sex Marriage Ban in California

California voters seem to have shifted in recent weeks on the proposition to ban same-sex marriage

Proposition 8 strictly a legal issue!

As I understand it, the gist of the debate is whether the legal meaning of the "marriage" contract should include anything other than the traditional "one man - one woman" arrangement. As noted, that is the historic basis for the family unit because it aligns so nicely with biology! Parthenogenesis is for aphids.

From a strictly legal standpoint, recognition of same-sex marriages would open the door for a whole variety of other combinations that would clamor for equal status. A prime example is polygamy/polyandry. Right behind would be things like people marrying animals, or wanting the state to recognize marriages between animals. Once a legal term has been opened to allow something other than its traditional meaning, it's hard to put the genie back in the lamp.

I am something close to 100% certain the founders of this nation did not contemplate the constitution being amended for things such as this. That's why the amendment process is burdensome, to assure that only those changes truly deserving adoption could make it.

The difficult question is, given our beliefs in the moral agency of man, what is the proper role of government in such matters.

Here is a quote from another commentator "HOMOPHOBIA = RACISM

ITS MODERN DAY EQUIVALENT TO RACISM.ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS THIS MEASURE SUPPORTS DISCRIMINATION."

How prejudiced and illogical this person's argument is! First he/she labels anyone who opposes gay marriage as a homophobic person--a term that surely insults anyone who suffers from a true phobia. Secondly they equivocate between race and homosexuality. I cannot choose my race, but I can definitely control my sexual activities- therefore, how I "orient" myself is my choice. And that is what most of those who support Proposition 8 are saying, that they have no hateful feelings towards homosexuals themselves, but they cannot idly sit by while corrupt judges disregard the voice of the people and continue to destroy the social fabric of our society. Every adult has the right to marry, but there are laws that set restrictions on who we may marry. I believe these laws are just and wise. They are worth defending.

PROPOSITION 8

THANKSS GOD MACCAIN/PALIN WILL WIN THIS ELECTION...THEY ARE AGAINST MARRIAGE BETWEEN SAME SEX...AND GAYS/LESBIANS...

Follow up

People who divorse are also not allowed to remarry all the time. So with believers it is exactly the same thing as with this. Everybody has the same rights, but we must live a sanctified life that can stand in the truth. Without divorces, same sex marriages, adultery and vice.

We think only when we don't disturb our selves on it, and when it doesn't border us it's fine. Everybody is afraid that something will happen with his children, that's why pedophily is forbidden and thank God for it. But the same thing is with marriage. You promise each other eternal trust and later you divorce? It doesn't make sense at all.

Only when we humble our selves, just a I had written before. God can heal and restore our land. Otherwise we gonna live in a time of judgement and chaos. You don't have to believe me, but the Usa is in a crisis. Jesus loves you and He wants you to have so much. He wants you to be ultimately blessed. Not stressed or possed, but refreshed at your very best. Believers are also humans who are making mistakes. That's why I keep my trust on Jesus and not on man. Otherwise I would be the same person how I used to be. Love Him back and you won't regret what you'll just said.

Important message to you all

Hello there,

Sorry if I had offended anyone on this matter. The last thing I want to create is an atmosphere of hostility.

Or an atmosphere of hatred and pain. The only thing I say is; that too many people are driven away, from their original way and they have gone astray into a sudden display of agression.

This thing has nothing to do with religion or what else more you can think off. I'm not a mormon or a pentecostal believer or what else more.

Religion is one of the main causes that there are so many problems in the world. Religion is a man made thing, where believers do things in the church by tradition of man and not of God. They do things based on the things they've learned from others, make their own institutions without any revelation from God. I don't believe in religion, but in a true relationship with my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, who bore our sins on the cross and was risen from the dead. And also the only one who can save our souls if we believe in Him as the only begotten Son of God. So that He can raise us up on the last day of condemnation. We live in crucial time, with lots of wickedness and bitterness in the hearts of people.

God is love, but God is also righteous. Or do you think that all these things are happening by coincidence.

It was said; how California goes, so the world will go.

I know where I'm talking about, because if you say yes to same sex marriage. You will also say yes to many other things, where you didn't say yes too at the beginning.

The next step is that they can adopt children. And If two women adopt a boy or a girl. How do they teach her about boys? Or do they teach them an error to go with another girl too? A boy can get problems with his masculinity. He needs a man to be a man and their view about the world will be confused. Children needs a father and a mother.

It's all about the truth. I understand that people feel them selves offended, cause they are estranged from God and His love.

But if we don't wake up quickly and change our selfishness and greed on how we want to do our things soon, we will come in a major crisis.

You can choose yes or no. But the choice is still yours if their isn't any repentance for our mistakes. But then someday, we have to pay the price for our actions.

In Europe where I comfrom, they said yes to same sex marriages.

Now we have a major problem, because there was almost a pedophile party formed here who tried to get same rights as the gays.

The same with moslims they also try to change the constitution, to get more rights. They want to have their own publicschools and that the Islam will be teached to the children at other schools. It all started with the gay rights. Man are confused and don't know where they comfrom anymore.Only GodsWord is the truth.

God says;If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

HOMOPHOBIA = RACISM

ITS MODERN DAY EQUIVALENT TO RACISM.ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS THIS MEASURE SUPPORTS DISCRIMINATION.

Separate is not equal. Anything short of the word "marriage" is wrong. Shame on those who believe you're "protecting marriage" outlaw divorce.

Proposition 8

The thing that disturbs me most about this campaign is that the No on 8 people are constantly characterizing Pro 8 people as bigots and haters. This is the most juvenile form of debate. Forget about the issues and attack the proponents of it. The opposite appears to be true of the Pro 8 people as their is a total absence of hate rhetoric from their camp.

It just seems so weird and transparent that there is so much hate coming out of the no on 8 camp yet they promote their position as a campaign against Hate...

Another very interesting point for me is that The California Teachers Association is one of the very biggest contributors to the no on 8 campaign. If this doesn't have anything to do with schools, as they say, then why have they donated more than a million dollars to fight against it. A contradiction, no? Obviously, what is really happening is that the officials in charge of the teachers union, and many teachers, themselves, feel that they are far superior to most parents and that children should be taught the beliefs that they hold, rather than the values that are taught at home. That million, plus, dollars, sure could've benefited California Schools if it had been used more wisely.

This will really blow up in their faces whether or not prop 8 prevails because the teachers union will have dramatically alienated half of the population over, what for them, is a non-issue.

Have you also noticed that the no on 8 folks don't dare show two homosexual men at the alter. Isn't that primarily what this is all about? They know that if faced with the reality of gay marriage that most Californians would balk. Talk about ignoring the elephant in the room!

The people in California already voted to protect traditional marriage in passing Prop 22 with 61% of the vote. It's just dirty politics that we have to do it all over again.

Vote Yes on 8.

If you don't want gay marriage, don't have one!

I really wonder what people are thinking. How does anyone's marriage affect anyone else's? What exactly are they trying to protect? With divorce rates over 50%, how does marriage between ANY two people who love one another destroy anyone's marriage? In today's world, two people who might have met a half-hour before can drive up to a wedding chapel in Las Vegas and get married by an Elvis impersonator. Is THIS what needs protection? Those two people, with the odds in favor of their eventual divorce, instantly get all rights AND recognition in any state in the U.S., whereas two committed same-sex partners who have been together for decades cannot have the same is discrimination in no uncertain terms. No church is being required to perform same-sex marriages, no schools are being required to teach anything about same-sex marriage (contrary to fear-mongering, inaccurate commercials), and nobody is forcing anything on anybody else. Usually, propositions seed to GET something that didn't exist before. This time, a proposition is trying to TAKE SOMETHING AWAY from law-abiding, tax-paying citizens whose committed relationship affects no one but themselves. Where will it end? If this were 1963 and a proposition was on a ballot to ban interracial marital rights in any Southern state, it would most likely pass handily. The courts are the great equalizer to insure that the rights of the minority are protected under the constitution from a majority. Proposition 8 is organized discrimination, and any concerned citizen should be concerned about ANY majority opinion that could take away anyone's rights. The next legal right you lose could be your own.

Shame on the LDS Church!

I am disgusted and outraged by the arrogance, intolerance and overt lies that Mormons have orated in recent weeks regarding prop 8...How dare you claim a cornerstone on the defination of a marriage as defined in your religion! You orated the same justification for exclusion of blacks from your church until recent year years...but their exclusion was justified based on "The Book of Mormon". The LDS Church is professing their hatred loud and clear across our great land "Keep those Homos seperate and less than equal"! So sad to think that the Mormons who were terrorized and dehumanized for wanting the basic rights guaranteed by our constitution (Worship) now exhibit the same reprehensible behavior towards others who essentially want rights (Marriage)...I wonder what Joseph Smith or Jesus would do in this situation...Shame on the LDS Church!
