Binge drinking may be worsening on campus, but the British experience is a cautionary tale

Yall are retards
Just lower the damn drinking age to 18 and let us young adults drink our booze please...
^^ who ever is above me ... what do u think no 18 year olds drink... HELLO obviously they do. The resaon 18 year olds are drinking so heavily is because it's illegal and everyone wants what they can't have. So if it was legal at 18 then they would drink less because they would be able to go to bars and have a few beers rather then doing keg stands at house parties where they get very drunk. So, YOU think about it.

Funny that the guy who killed your friend wasn't 21 but was drinking nonetheless. Maybe he didn't get the memo that it was illegal.
Your story just goes to prove the point: having the drinking age be 21 does not prevent drinking, it only breeds a culture of irresponsibility.
Perhaps the guy could have called his parents to pick him up if it was legal for him to drink.
lower drinking age
It's odd when you look at different European countries and notice their drinking age is lower, yet most have far less drinking problems. It's because the people grow up learning how to drink. Here, people drink lots because it's the 'cool' thing to do, only because it is against the law. They are never brought up learning how to drink right. Most countries have it so that at 16 or 18 you have access to light alcohols, then later have access to heavier ones. This allows people to train their drinking habits so they DON'T binge. Sure, they might be drinking at a younger age, but if you drink appropriately, then it shouldn't harm too much. In fact, it has been proven that light alcohols, like wine, can actually help your health. I'd be happy even if they set it so that at age 18, adults have access to the light alcohols, such as light beers, wine, etc. Then at 21 have access to the heavier ones such as vodka and ales. This would allow people, especially students, to still be able to drink alcohol, but also learn how to moderate it. They blame the kids for binge drinking and not knowing how to drink, but they haven't realized that they haven't learned to drink because no one is taught them! Drinking habits just don't happen by change, they have to see it. It is such taboo in the US to have an underage person drinking, or even teach an underage person how to drink, that they never learn how. So, consequentially, they have adults turning 21 or 18 even, and drinking until the get drunk. They don't realize that if they EDUCATE the teens on how to drink from an earlier age, then they will KNOW how to. Education is the key there. It doesn't matter if the person is 18, 21, or even 50. If they are never told how they should drink, then they most likely will not know how to. Age isn't the key here. Knowledge and education are. The Europeans grow up learning how to, it's part of many of their cultures, so kids grow up seeing good drinking habits, and learning when and how much is appropriate to drink. It's amazing that the government hasn't realized that connection.
Why in the world would you lower it!
As it is tweenty one year olds can't even handle this substance yet alone eighteen year olds. I mean , commonsense, don't you people watch the news? All the accidents that are caused by drunk driving. Lowering the drinking age would be like digging every eighteen year olds death whole. I myself had to expirience the death of a close friend of mine because an EIGHTEEN year old guy rann a red light and hit the passanger side of her boyfriends car. What good do we get from this law? Just think about it.
lowering the drinking age!!!
I think they should lower the drinking age because the alomost half the kids in the united states have had alchol the D.U.I. would be cut down.
lower drinking age
I think that the age should be lowered..im doing a project in class a debate on it, if it should be lowered and i think it would be a great idea. if people start drinking at age 18 than they wont binge drink later on in life. why shouldnt they be able to drink if they can work at a bar and be responsible. and if they can have a job and be an adult than the law should let them drink too. they have a hard day at work they should be able to come home and have a beer, or go out with their friends and have fun not drink to get drunk and pass out but just a little.
lowering it
If your 18 and have to the right to fight for our country and have the right to vote then they should be able to have a few beers. If your 18 then your consered an adult you should be aloud to go out and buy some.
drinking age
just do it were gonna drink either way if you want to help teach us how to drink responisbly like if we can die for this country why cant i drink for it and if i can be tried fully for something because i know what i did was wrong then i think i can know my limit on drinking
Thank you
This is a very good site. It really is going to help us win our debate against Damon and Alex. They blow monkey balls... don't tell them i said that, anyways... This is a very educational site who has brought my understanding keeping the drinking age at 21 is a very smart plan and helps save lives everyday. Damon's most likley going to say something stupid like relate it to MONDAY NIGHT SMACK DOWN! Or NFL Football! So retarded but thats ok. Alex... lol it will be fun with him. Sure he will TRY to put up a good fight but he will fail in the end. Doesnt surprise me. :) Thanks again B DOG Gerosa and L DOG Boll.
