More States Ban Salvia
Used for healing rituals, the herb is also a powerful hallucinogenic

Terrence's comments are just ridiculous. There's no basis behind them at all. That post should simply be deleted or, at the very least, ignored. It should be illegal for anyone under the age of 21 or 25 to purchase or possess Salvia Divinorum. Isn't that enough? Why did MY right to use it, as a 36 year old adult, get taken away? I used it responsibly, and I was never addicted to it. Nobody was ever or would have been addicted to Salvia Divinorum. It's just not that type of drug.
Save the children. What a farce! And DRIVING on Salvia? It's not even remotely possible. I can't believe anyone is actually worried about people driving on Salvia. It's blatantly obvious that those who've banned this substance had/have no idea what it was about. Just like 99% of people who vote for the President of our country. They base their opinions on what they hear on the radio, see on television or read in the newspaper - basically voting for what the President the media wants in power (I hope the media is on our side!). Oh wait, some people get their influence from friends! Oh yeah - who got THEIR influence from the media.
One day, people are going to get fed up with being slaves...
Don't try it
The link for the following story is at the bottom of this post:
"Hello, I tried salvia for the first time yesterday, I had heard lots about this legal high. I have done LSD and Magic Mushrooms in the past, so I figured this couldnt be any more hallucinogenic seeing that it's TOTALLY legal...
Boy, was I wrong. When I bought the 1gram package of 10x Salvia the guy behing the counter told me to do a verrrrry little amount for the first time and make sure I had someone around who could watch over me (called a "sitter") I didnt listen to a word this guy said and went home. When I got home I put 1/4 of the gram into a homemade pipe made out of a pepsi bottle, and lit it with a butane torch lighter (apparantly it has to burn at a very high temperature to get the high) I managed to take in the whole 1/4 gram in one deep inhale. I held it in for about 30 seconds and got up to place the pipe on the table.... then it hit me, my first immidiate thought was "What have I done to Myself???" It was immidiate regret, the floor was firing bullets at me then the room began to spin violently. I panicked and fell to the ground, I totally forgot that I smoked salvia and this was about 40 seconds after doing so... anyway, as I lay on the floor I looked down at my feet and they were being consumed by this mass tornado of furniture, I began crawling away from this couch monster, as I looked forward I realized I was on a game show and the only way to win was to get away from the swirling mass and not be eaten by my couch. I was attempting to crawl forward but seemed to be moving backwards. There was no way for me to snap myself back to reality because THIS WAS MY REALITY, you forget your high and it seems real. So as I was crawling I wasnt getting anywhere and my co-workers were in my house saying "everything will be ok, just keep crawling" ( I had just gotten off of work and was alone, maybe this is why I saw my co-workers) And as soon as it began it ended. When I came to I was clinging on to the corner of my wall that goes into the kitchen for dear life. I was drenched in sweat. The "severe" tripping was over, I somehow managed to get up and walk to my couch, as I did, A&E chanel was playing the movie "Die Hard" . The characters in the movie were talking directly to me telling me that my girlfrind knew that I tried Salivia, somehow I had told her. I immideatly got up and unplugged my phone, uplugged my internet connection and closed the blinds. Even the afterglow was "trippy" . As I was laying on my couch I could sense what my couch was feeling emotionally, and it seemed sad/angry.
This stuff is totally insane, I threw the other 3/4 gram in the garbage, swearing never to touch it again. No drug I've ever tried was this intense and horrifying. AND IT'S TOTALLY LEGAL???! Somethings wrong here...
Never ever try this stuff...
That was my experience."

Common?
I work in a treatment center and we have yet to see a problem with salvia...in fact I dare say that I could count on one hand the people who have been in treatment here and used salvia. It just isn't that common.
Why...?
Why take the time and effort and spend the money to outlaw and prosecute people for using a plant that is not addictive, has not harmful effects and whose only side effect is a general feeling of wellbeing for up to several days?
Where did our freedom go?
I've tried Salvia. Didn't like it. Didn't go crazy and try to find more drugs to try.
I thought I was a free man...
Words of advice: Don't vote for politicians who take the easy way out... and that is EXACTLY what banning things like Salvia divinorum is. It makes them look good. They can say "we made an effort to be 'hard on drugs'". But it doesn't do anything, and perhaps makes it worse.
LEGALIZE AND REGULATE ALL DRUGS. EDUCATE NOT PROHIBIT!
Kudos?
Terrence, where do you get this information? This is the only time I have ever heard of Salvia as a "gateway drug" or that treatment centers are overwhelmed by people "screwed up by Salvia." Is this just your knee-jerk response to any drug being made illegal? Did you have a bad trip once, or have you never had any curiosity and always been afraid of drugs because that's how you were told to feel? History has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that prohibition does not work, and this "prohibit it now, study it later" crap only makes drug problems worse. If you really care about children and not just maintaining your own irrational fear, support ending the drug war, legalizing and regulating drug sales. For a better tomorrow!
PROHIBITION
Another great example of oppression and tyranny being alive and well in the USA.
It's time to remove all the politicians that promote prohibition. How many more lives have to be needlessly devastated or lost? Prohibited drugs are way easier for kids to get than regulated drugs! Prohibition never works it just causes crime and violence. The year alcohol prohibition ended violent crime fell by 65 percent.
Not one person in history has ever died from marijuana. Many have died from its PROHIBITION.
On March 22, 1972 the Richard Nixon-appointed, 13-member National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse recommended the decriminalization of marijuana, concluding, "[Marijuana's] relative potential for harm to the vast majority of individual users and its actual impact on society does not justify a social policy designed to seek out and firmly punish those who use it."
The USA spends 69 billion tax dollars every year on the drug war, builds 900 new prison beds and hires 150 more correction officers every two weeks, arrests someone on a drug charge every 17 seconds, jails more people than any nation and has killed over 100,000 citizens in the drug war.
In 1914 when there were no prohibited drugs 1.3% of our population was addicted to drugs, today 1.3% of our population is still addicted to drugs and there’s way more crime and violence because of the huge profits prohibition generates.
Guns have absolutely nothing to do with using drugs, they have to do with drug prohibition. Al Capone didn’t kill people because he was drunk, he killed people because they got between him and his illegal drug money. The same goes for the drug gangsters of today.
Every time you look at the news you see more and more drug busts involving bigger and bigger quantities of drugs, not less and less. There are much more effective, far less expensive and far less harmful ways to deal with drug use and addiction than the war on drugs.
The right; to freedom of religion, free speech, a free press, to keep and bear arms, to be secure in your person, house, papers and effects against unreasonable search and seizure, to life, liberty and property, to be protected from having your property taken by the government without due process of law and without just compensation, to confront the witnesses against you, to be protected from excessive bail, excessive fines, cruel and unusual punishment, to vote and many others have been denied to millions of Americans in the name of the drug war.
Even the World Health Organization has documented the Failure of U.S. Drug Policies, read the article here, join the mailing list, watch the videos:

Salvia Criminalization
This story is a virtual replay of the cannabis delegalization process of the 1930's. Except that the effects of this drug don't seem to last long [enough!], salvia seems to be even better than cannabis in some respects. No drug test detects it yet, no drug dogs can detect it....hmmm.... mellow.gif Now we have something else to go to jail for. Same garbage: allegedly dangerous, there are no recorded fatalities. dry.gif Good medicine, but allegedly acts as a "gateway drug" [along with milk, air, hamburgers, and US News& World Report)!
Kudos to Florida for protecting our kids
Yes, it is all about the money, isn't it? The people selling salvia are definitely ALL about the money, including this Seibert guy. They could give a crap that they are helping our kids to go on to harder drugs. It's been proven that salvia is a gateway drug and treatment centers all over the country are having more and more kids admitted that have been screwed up by salvia. I for one don't want anyone in my family using it and at least our government here in Florida has made it way more difficult. You go guys!
