Rewriting the Legend of Paul Revere
Every schoolchild knows the story, but most of it is wrong

People hear what they want to hear
A poem or a song isn't a valid historical source. That all those school books have used Longfellow's poem as fact, depite the availability of Revere's own contradictory account, shows that people will believe what they want to believe and falsify history to serve thier own purposes. The dates might be right, but much of the history taught in schools is a fairy tale. Most people still think Chritopher Columbus was a hero, rather than the man who was carried back to Spain in chains for his genocidal persecution of peaceful native peoples.

Un-writing History
Longfellow's "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" very clearly and accurately portrays the essence of the setting, the spirit, the heroics, the results and consequences of that fateful night.
There were two lights used for signals
Paul did ride a horse and spread the alarm
Longfellow did not claim that Mr. Revere was the only one riding a horse and spreading the alarm
Mr. Revere was temporarily restrained by the British on his way to Concord, but he may very well have made it there by one o'clock, as per Longfellow.
The Minutemen did hide behind rocks a kill a lot of British soldiers.
AND WE WON.
For you information, Mr. Ewers's, you need to understand the term "poetic license," under which Mr. Longfellow astutely operates his vehicle.
Revere Ware
Yeah, I figured as much. I have some of his copper fry pans and the bronze handles conduct heat beyond belief.
I have tried to contact Mr. Revere about this issue and to discuss a solution but to no avail.
Evidently Longfellow's poem has gone to his head.
