The Fallout From California's Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

This is a CIVIL matter, not a religious one
I fully honor anyone's right to believe homosexuality and same-sex marriage are immoral. Some religions believe gambling or dancing or eating shellfish are sinful behaviors. Fine.
Our founders were smart enough to realize two different religious viewpoints can never come together, since both believe what God tells THEM is the truth and since God is never wrong, how can that other person be right? So they wrote the Constitution to ensure that one religion's idea of what God wants wouldn't have any more sway than another's in civil matters. In other words, we don't live in a theocracy.
So leave religion out of it. If you can deliver logical, rational reasons why equal rights should be denied to a group of people, let's hear them. All I've seen so far is "it's immoral," or "God condemns homosexuality, so should our society" and those arguments don't hold water in terms of the Constitution.
One of you said no one can know the long term consequences of gay marriage, but no good can come of it. I will tell you this, plenty of BAD will come from denying a group of citizens equal rights simply because of who they are. I knew a man who was in a same-sex relationship for 35+ years. When his partner died of lung cancer, the tax basis on the house they shared changed. They'd done all they could legally to protect their shared assets, but without marriage, there was only so much they could do.
On top of that, this man was ineligible to receive Social Security survivor benefits. Those two things combined to make it impossible for this man to stay in the home they shared.
This is about equality, not religion.

Thank You dean of Fl
Thanks Dean for speaking up and bring some light to the moral disintegration of this once Great Nation. This country was founded on moral principals. As a matter of fact, it was founded on very Christian based moral principals. The whole American dream was based on developing a culture of hard working people of integrity, God fearing, honest, and moral. If you will read some early United States History and some of the writings of the men that founded this nation, it will back that up! God fearing men founded this country and wrote the very Constitution we have lived by.
Yes, the same Constitution that is being ignored and re-defined in the interpretation to fit the lifestyles of todays ignorant godless, immoral society. The ACLU is doing all it can to rub out all traces of God's existence in the U.S. Hopefully, that will help alleviate any residual guilt. Hasn't anyone noticed how violent and unsafe our neighborhoods have become? Hasn't anyone noticed the incredible increase in "topless" and "nude" clubs over the last, say 20 years, in all of our small and large cities? Our kids think it's OK to have sex at 10 to 12 years old. The schools almost promote active sexual behavior and supply the condoms, thinking: "this is the way to teach our children responsible sexual behavior." Our schools are teaching our children that being gay is OK. Don't listen to the morals your parents are teaching you. That's Sick! These are our professional educators? We were given, by God, our free agency. Yes, The California Supreme Court has joined the very rank and file of the immoral. Redefining that original American Dream: Look around California....,Gambling, failing economy, major crime problems, huge welfare state, no regard for our children's education (38%never graduate) , prisons have never been as crowded, State parks are closing, prostitution is on the rise, etc, etc.
You all do have freedom of choice, the catch is, you will pay a severe price for making the wrong choices. You are a destructive influence those around you: children, young adults, close friends, family, neighbors, and so on.
So, if making a good, wholesome choices helps to create happy, healthy children, honest diligent young adults, close, tight knit families, friends of integrity, and neighbors you can count on, why not?
We will all have to answer for our choices . Were we involved in redefining marriage? Did we assist, even a little, in the moral decline of America? Did we do nothing and go with the flow? The California Supreme Court Judges did all this, and more. They've not only overstepped their authority and tried to legislate what it has no place in doing, they will have to answer to a higher authority for all the moral damage they cause for this decision.
Self Righteous Selfish Gays
You just cannot leave well enough alone! There never was nor will there ever will be a definition of Marriage that has anything to do with being homosexual. This was a land of Democracy until we had some jerk off liberal Attorneys formed the American Civil Liberties Union and began destroying the U.S. Constitution while re-defining definitions, terms, and word combinations to serve their interests. Primarily, making them very, very, rich! They've hurt us bad enough protecting 35 million illegal aliens. Now they've (bleeding heart liberals) infiltrated our State Supreme Court and are forcing unpopular views on the citizens of California.
Why can't the Gays be satisfied with a Civil Union? Let us heterosexuals continue to protect the sanctity of Marriage as it has been since the beginning of written history, between a Man and a Woman! Why do they have to be so invasive, so self righteous, and so damn selfish? This is not a race issue! Race issues are based on skin color, or what ancestry you originate from. The majority of people in this DEMOCRACY see Marriage as a union between one man and one woman!
If you don't mess with the Constitution as our Founding Fathers wrote it, it upholds that very democratic majorities decision! OOPS! I forgot, we're ignoring the Constitution for these GAYS so they can crap all over something very precious and dear to us since mans early beginning. Then throw it in our faces and show us how powerful they have become. Thanks to the ACLU and bleeding heart liberal Supreme Court Judges.
Blahblahblah
The basis of our society is the family, which is a man and woman legally bound together for the sake of their children. We have foolishly allowed this bedrock to decay, and now we're at the point where we image homosexuals to have an "equal right" to replace mothers and fathers with fathers and fathers. This so-called right has no historical or moral basis whatsoever. Out of pity we have abandoned common sense. The gays say, "Where is the harm?" The truth is that we have no idea what the long term consequences of gay marriage will be on society, but one thing is certain: no good can come from this.
We must have a society that is 100% biased, 100% prejudiced in favor of NORMAL MARRIAGE and families. No gay marriage!
to Steve of NJ
"No major religion has ever banned marriage between races NOT ONE."
Doesn't matter. This is a CIVIL matter. A religious point of view has no authority here. Besides, there were plenty of churches that got behind bans on interracial marriage. It took the courts to extend marriage equality to people who were born with different skin colors.
"People constantly wish to compare homosexuality which is an act with racism which is based on skin color."
Homosexuality is not an act, it is an aspect of being. Sex with someone of the same gender is an action. Left-handedness is also an aspect of being. Using your left hand to write or throw a ball is an action.
gay marriage
"I don't understand why this country has let the majority"
Well it's real easy the majority has a say in what the meaning of words should be.
Gay = Happy
Pot = Something to cook with.
Marriage = The joining together of 1 man and 1woman.
Civil union = Whatever the hell you want it to be just not marriage.
Last Time I checked
No major religion has ever banned marriage between races NOT ONE. Jesus, Moses, Mohamed Buddha, none ! Moses married a black women. ALL of the major religions are against gay marriage. Gays don't seem to care to ask why. It is irrelevant to them they do not care what is good for society they only care about what is good for themselves. People constantly wish to compare homosexuality which is an act with racism which is based on skin color. It is mind boggling how warped so many peoples logic has become.
Feeling equal
As a gay woman, for me the issue is not the tital of marriage...but feeling like I'm as good as any straight man or woman standing next to me; one who is free to love someone of my choice, and therefore be protected under the law like everyone else. They claim that civil unions should be good enough for us, when they exlude more than a thousand legal rights that straight couples are entitled to. I don't understand, why in this day and age, some people still find oppression a necessary tool to inflict segregation amoung people who merely want to LOVE each other...
If me and my girlfriend wanted to get married, I hardly believe that it would effect how Susie homemaker down the street conducts her own life. The "sanctity" of marriage argument is a joke. Defend those that cheat on their spouse, beat on their partner and/or children, or get divorced 3 months later and show me how that respects "God's" traditional meaning of marriage. Please.
David's right. Get over it.
gay marriage
I don't understand why this country has let the majority vote a minorities rights. If the majority (whites) could have voted on the rights of blacks in the late 1800's we would probably still have slavery..
