So you're working all the time—but you still can't take care of yourself. For somebody who's been fiercely independent ever since childhood, it's been a tremendous challenge to make the adjustment, to learn to depend on other people and not be resentful, to be manhandled and sometimes handled like a baby—somebody having to wash you, somebody having to train your bowels to release stools only at a certain time.
That's humiliating. Yes.
And people don't even think of that. No. But I don't dwell on it. And I've been able to make progress. I've been able to direct a film, write a book, do things that I might not otherwise have done.
