10 Things You Didn't Know About Michelle Obama
Reader Comments
The improbability
of Barack and Michelle occupying The White House is absolutely STUNNING, when one thinks deeply about who these two people actually are and how they got there.
I know that conservatives "think" they speak for God, but I am strongly tempted to believe that America and the world received some divine providence in the 2008 presidential election. I do not "idolize" the Obamas, but I am proud we elected them, and I think their messages are good and timely medicine for us in troubled times.
The alternatives put up by the Republicans, after all, were John and Cindy McCain, two people enriched from selling beer for decades to the underclass of Arizona. How "Godly" was that? And what might we conclude that God may have done to confuse the Republicans into such an off-base nomination? You think God tried to fix it for them with Sarah Palin as VP, but somehow He couldn't get it done?
Nah. The more likely probability of divine providence--for those who want to believe in such things-- actually seems to rest on the side of Barack and Michelle.
How old are we?
I just can't believe that in 2009 people want to show their intellect in a public forum by calling the first lady ugly and racist. Wow! That's a new low. In those college papers she did a thesis about how black graduates from Princeton felt about racism and the school. In the 1980's the US was in a different place when it came to race relations. Duh!! So how could this be seen as racist? Find something else to talk about. I have an idea....let's talk about how inspiring the Obama's are to the WHOLE WORLD, not because of the color of their skin, but because of their relationship, faith, and overall care of other people. That's FANTASTIC. Positive thoughts....God Bless you, and God Bless America.

Inactive law licenses? Who cares.....they aren't practicing law....did I miss something? Of course not...you just wanted something else negative to say. According to you the press didn't "jump" on this information, well what about the Republican Party? I am sure if this information was true, I mean you did say "alleged," then I am sure John McCain' camp would have made sure that we all new. I agree with one of the previous comments; why didn't you run for office? Let us know all of your secrets and everything about you. I bet my check you wouldn't want to do that.Remember, positive attitudes usually lead to positive results. You seem very negative....must be lonely at the bottom. Have a blessed day! I will!
To Beverly MN
Beverly, my father is a first generation American (born and raised in Texas). His parents came from Mexico. My father worked for the railroad. He worked hard in the heat and cold. He raised 6 children. My mother was raised without her mom who died when she was very young. She is also a Latina woman. She worked cleaning buildings while raising her 6 children. We lived in a home in the barrio. My parents never went to school. Of my parent's 6 children, 5 have college degrees, and 2 also have master's degrees, 3 of us also served in the military. Do I think we are unique? No, I believe I have great parents who instilled love of country and the love of discussions whether politics, religion, etc. Do I think "white folk" are shocked by the President and First Lady and their accomplishments...maybe some, but most no. I think President Obama had alot of "white folk" voting for him. The Obama story is not unique in the USA. Everyone has had struggles and make it...I personally voted for the President because I think he sees things in a different light. I believe he wants to get everyone of different races, creeds, etc. involved. He just gets it...I wish him the best and his family. Sure I have my prejudices and I would be lying if I said I didn't, but I try and get past that. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Good luck to you.
Is it sad the we as a nation are so surprise with our First Ladies accomplishments!
We in the Black Community are so proud to have the Obama’s as the first African American First Family. But as Michelle ‘s short bio and initial actions as First lady point out, even without money there are a lot of Obama type families in the United States. I have always felt a sense of pride and wonderment for the President and First Lady. And I’ve been blessed to have so many Michelle’s and President Obama’s in my life. This “quality of Black women and men that you see in the First Family has always existed, contrary to what the national media portrays. President Obama and the First Lady are so cool and “usual “because both were raised with the values, class and distinction that yes exist in poor, middle income, racial and biracial families throughout our United States of America. It’s no surprise to Black people, and oh how said for Anglo Americans that it’s such a novelty revelation that this family is so like or superior to their own family. It’s wonder that everyone now knows educated people, truly professional people who respect family who give to their communities, make contributions to our societies on a multiplicity of levels really do exist and have always existed in African American communities, other indigenous ethic communities and yes the national community all along. Now all American adults and youths live an American History that will not negated or ignored- a truth that I hope will shape their being in the most positive of ways. How lucky those young people just starting their life’s journey are to have seen this all evolve. Best wishes to our first family and our country.
Michelle Obama's Law License
the press has always done their duty to thoroughly scrutinize all political candidates, except for Democrats, of course.
YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS??!!!!
Obamas' law licenses
If there is information of public interest, please advise with detail.
I'm sure we are not as enlightened as you are, but in my few years of voting, I've never seen a candidate who was more scrutinized, more vetted.
Please make public your information.
Role Model
Michelle is a role model. She she is someone to look up to in every way! To Wayne Stoops the person that left the comment about the Law License....get a life! If you don't have anything positive to say about the President and First Lady keep your mouth closed. They didn't mess up the economy, the last president did! Give that man a chance to rebuild the economy that Bush tore down. Don't be petty, get a life! There is a reason that he became president! You stated '300 Million people in this country and these two were the best candidates America could come up with?' Why didn't you run?
As I said before, Michelle is a role model. It's funny how when people are successful you alway's have someone trying to hold you down, or rain on your parade. It's called SUCCESS!!!
I Love our new leaders
These are the two most positive, loving people. They are first and foremost amazing parents. They have the hearts and minds of what the people as a whole need and want to accomplish a more unified and diversified economy. They have done more in a few months than other leaders have done in years...don't be negative be open to what they are and will be to the people.

Michelle Obama's law license.
Gee, I wonder why they don't mention that she put her law license on "inactive" to halt a disbarment proceeding by the ARDC, part of the Illinois Supreme Court. I'm sure the failure to mention that was just an oversight. Oh, by the way, Barack's law license is also on "inactive" to halt disbarment proceedings as well for "false statements of material fact on his application to take the bar exam" as well as other alleged misdeeds.
Hmmm, just another oversight, I guess, after all, the press has always done their duty to thoroughly scrutinize all political candidates, except for Democrats, of course.
That information should have been brought out in the campaign, not that John McCain would have been any better. 300 Million people in this country and these two were the best candidates America could come up with?
