THE REASON FOR THE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS OF THE WORLD IS

CALIFORNIA HAS AN ACTOR AS ITS GOVERNOR,THE LAST PRESIDENT WAS A DUNCE,THE PRESENT PRESIDENT A JOKER,in order to get the economy going all taxes must be eliminated, scrapped, the reason for this is! only the goverment and the cooperations has the money that was stolen from the people for the last 50 years. Both houses of parliment needs to be restructed, all those geriatrics senators, must be replaced with people that are young and properly educated.

For Grant Hopper about kinds of Christians & Cuba

It's nice your church sends things to Cuba. I research economic policies of churches. On Pg.1414, Vol. 4 of one edition of "The Catholic Reference Encyclopedia," there is the definition of "Private Property." It says God invented private property (quoting the 1932 pope.) It says "The Church vigorously defends against those political systems that seek to replace private with public ownership." That means the Church opposes all non-capitalist nations--like Cuba, N. Korea, N. Vietnam, Allende's Chile, Mossadegh's Iran, Chavez' Venezuela, Sandista Nicaragua, etc. But the US and its CIA used our taxes & soldiers to implement Vatican policy in those nations. See books by Helms & aides to Nixon & "The Pentagon Papers." We aided Catholic Diem, Pres. of S. Vietnam while he secretly profited from heroin grown in Laos & processed with water from soft drink factories. Nixon was a lawyer for Pepsicorp when out of office. In l972, he went to China to sell Pepsi. it was one of the first trade agreements he made there. I hope Cuba develops oil so the US embargo won't mean a thing any more.

Another market lost

Cuba is another market lost due to the ignorance of the Bush administration

why china but not cuba?

Why deal with China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, etc but not Cuba? It makes no sense. Anyway I have a right to travel to Cuba whether or not Washington agrees. Cheers.

Cuba Policy of USA

Describing gross abuses of human rights as a Cuban reputation and legacy should also describe China in the identical terms. Why the double USA standard used for these two countries?

Amazed at the ignorance

Its wonderful that y'all base your pure opions from afar and on vacations. That you've not had that unique experience of executions harassment threats living hell that only the castro brothers, and che, dish. Pick on Bush all you want but he was a president focused on our nations security while other politicos were bent on bucks and resorts. Thank God he didnt have just a pretty speech but the action. And was he THE ONLY POLITICIAN, AND RICE, ON THE JOB? Kids, do your real research and quit slobbering.

Cuba and her friends

If u want to be friend with Cuba for whatever benefits then y'all will be sitting at the same table for lunch as Chavez and Putin. Commis r them. Please get a clue.

cuba

I have been to cuba 6 times.I see many imported products in cuba.Cuba can buy just about anything they want but are limited buy their ability to pay.I do not think the U.S understand reality.I know the organization that I belong to will continue to ship large amount of materials free of charge to poor people in cuba.I am very surprized about people in the US who claim to be christian are against cuba.

From Jan 2001 thru Jan 2009 US government was a terrorist regime

Lance of Tx: 4 March 2009

The US is a direct threat to peace everywhere in the world! The past adminisration was the biggest terrorist regime in the world!

Embargo Shmembargo...

Firstly, I wholeheartedly agree with TeleBob that the embargo on Cuba is a farce. For whatever reasons our government uses to convince itself that they will continue to treat THIS communist government this way yet merrily deal with the Chinese (and other non-democratic regimes WE deem unacceptable) is beyond me. That discussion is best left for another day.

I am a little concerned however about how for decades we have kept Cuba as this forbidden and illegal country to visit, let alone invest in, and now that they are getting support from the rest of the world in order to help themselves and improve their situation we all of a sudden say “wait a minute… those rules aren’t fair…” Well, we made the rules (granted something had to be done after the Bay of Pigs) but more importantly we let the rules last this long.

It’s no surprise that our thirst for oil is insatiable and unless something changes within the US (more specifically within our personal lives. I know that’s taboo around here and another can of worms in itself…) we’re in for a world of hurt.

Yes, I agree that for the short term (+/-15 years) we need to source more fossil fuels to satisfy our needs, but until we change the way we travel, the way we buy things, the amount of excess in our lives, and the amount we waste we generate, we are not going to get there.

I know I’m digressing but bare with me for a second… last year we my family and I survived hurricane Ike. Sure, being without power for 11 days posed major challenges with regard to food and fuel but after a week or so once people started returning to work you noticed the buses, park & rides, and car pools were more popular than ever (not to mention fuel was at ~$4/gal) as people realized they had a different method to get to work. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks later once everything was back to ‘normal’ we were right back to the congested, 6 lanes wide, 1 person in each vehicle, fighting to get to work and it seemed like we all forgot how desperate we were just a week before. It does prove though that if we were forced to we could adjust (and still surprisingly get by) but if we don’t have to try and get better then why bother. (My intention is not to paint our habits with a single brush, there are a lot of people in this country trying to make an honest difference)

Back to my rant… I think we should leave the Cubans alone. I think they are on the verge of doing quite well for themselves (with no thanks to or help from us) and just because they found other ‘business partners’ to deal with then so be it, they as a country have a right to choose. Obviously it would make sense to source oil & gas from our neighbors (transportation costs, etc) but just by opening up the embargo to Cuba doesn’t mean our energy needs will be fulfilled. You’d be entering into an open & competitive market bidding along side the Chinese, European, and South American companies. Just the same, I heard it’s a beautiful country to visit...
