Detroit's dilemma
The Gordon Proposal: Suppose the Federal government issued a purchase order to the big three auto companies for say 500,000, cars, 50,000 school busses and 50,000 postal trucks to be delivered in 2 years. The price would be, say, 12 billion dollars. The cars and busses would be specified as electric plug-in's and multi-fuel hybrids, light, efficient, and would in fact define the next generation. This would not be a give-away, but a purchase. There is an enormous difference. The cars, once delivered would be used by the Federal government to replace its existing fleet, and donated or sold at cost to states and municipalities. They in turn would raise the money for their purchases by auctioning their low mileage but now obsolete fleet to the public who would benefit from the low costs of these vehicles. In the meantime the auto companies, with the new designs and tooling in place would have a jump start on offering the public advanced eco-designs.

Well, so much for "brains" to fix our economic problems....
With people like Villaraigosa (who is a joke!!!), we are in big trouble.
His appointment absolutely baffles me, as he can't even control the city of Los Angeles, let alone finances on a national level.

Paul Krugman
Paul Krugman was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Science this year, He has written extensively on the current crisis and is an excellent communicator. His day jobs include being a professor at Princeton and an Op-Ed page columnist for The New York Times. I hope his input will be considered.
Board comprised of a mayor a govenor and who?
What is the point of a 'board' composed of members who have full time jobs elsewhere, except for some small town where their part time commitments in government would not affect their job performance.
Who is manning the post for the govenor and the mayor while the committee meets, and who pays their bills?
Are they on salary as elected officials or on the Democratic payroll, or just donating public time (while taking salary and benefits from the public for their primary jobs).

Why is Robert Wolf not on this board. He says he knows more than anybody and raised millions for Obama? I know he has some regulatory issues, but he has not been convicted of anything.
