Ad Roundup: Barack Obama and John McCain Disagree About Whether McCain Is the Same as President Bush
Reader Comments
Bush...oops I meant McCain vs Obama
Well, this is really a moot point isn't it. Obama's most effective and true ad is the one where McCain himself goes on camera and defends his record as voting with bush over 90% of the time better than most of the other Republicans. If that isn't a wake up call I don't know what is. It's very simple folks, if you want more of the same, if you like Bush and his cronies and Bush policies, than John McCain is your man. However if, like most Americans, you are fed up with the lies, abuses of power, and war mongering while our country faces the worst multiple crisies since the great Depression - then please vote for change. Oh, by the way, it was a Republican administration who got us into the Great Depression and Democrat president that got us out of it through radically diffent ideas than anyone in office had ever proposed. All the senior republicans would do well to remember that they have all the programs the depend upon like social security and medicare because of the Democrat presidents policies.
Questions...questions.....
Is Barack Obama the same thing as Jimmy Carter and Chauncey Gardener? Now there is a question. But we won't ask for the highly so0phisticated and professional media to pose it.Will we ?
"contact us" on McCain website
Jo Ann of NY,
Just look at the bottom of nearly every page on McCain's website, and you will see a "Contact us" link at the beginning of the line. I have used it several times.
Not the Same, but Polices are the Same - Failed
McCain has failed to show he has any substantial policies differences than Bush. Both have followed the same anti-regulatory philosophy that is the primary reason we have in the economic collapse we are in.
Sure, McCain whined a little here and there - like about torture, but ultimately McCain failed to prevent from the Bush Administration using torture. McCain was responsible in his capacity of Senate oversight of the military, and he failed to move the Repugs in Congress to stand up against torture. Pretty weak influence in his own party!
Ad Roundup
I just heard a recorded call that is going out to thousands of people in swing states that slams Obama for being a friend of a terrorist who has bombed and killed americans. This is less than 48 hours after McCain said "who cares about a washed up terrorist", The voice was so menacing, the message so blantly false that I immediatley went to find the McCain website to complain... you know what, all I could find was places to contribute, no place to 'contact'. That's it in a nutshell. I am so disgusted. I admire the Obama campaign more than ever for their grace and dignity, and fighting back, there is no way that you can compare the two campaigns. Why isn't the media holding McCains feet to the fire on this? McCain's campaign is as honest as Joe the plumber. Appropirate to pick him as your poster child, I only feel sorry for him, poor guy is going to have to pay those back taxes now and will probably lose his job because he's not a licensed plumber... way to McCain, put another american out of work.
It is the same joe' plumbler tortilla
It is the same tortilla. It burned on one side (Bush)so is time to turned around (McCain). Poor joe the plumber fighting for what he is not....nice republican tactic they keep appealing to people's emotion (the idiot Joe's dreamer).
Is he the same as Bush? Let's find out:
Panders to the right (Big shift in politics at start of campaign): Check.
Lies to the American people (his campaign has been caught several times in outright lies): Check.
Pursues goals independently of the will of the people (the people didn't want a bailout - both he and Obama voted for it): Check
Has been part of the Republican Right scene for 20 years 95% of the time (see the congressional record): Check.
Invokes patriotism and fear as reasons to vote for him (cites Obama's lack of experience in these 'troubled times' as a reason to vote for him): Check.
Supported banking deregulation for years (see the congressional record): Check.
Advocates continuing the war in Iraq (as stated by his campaign many times): Check.
Selects a running mate who has abused their political office (the investigating commission decide she did abuse her powers in office - a contributing factor in the dismissal of the top cop in Alaska - but did not recommend punishment.): Check.
Does not speak out against running a secret government (despite running on a promise of a 'transparency' in government, Palin's initial willingness to aid in the investigation evaporated when she was picked for veep - McCain said nothing except to support her efforts.): Check.
Is old, stubborn and refuses to acknowledge reality (just like Bush): Check.
Is he more of the same? Assessment: Mostly. Is he more in keeping with the status quo than Obama? Oh, HELL yes.
The American people don't want a slight change in direction. We want a BIG change in direction. I expect under McCain, it will be more like Bush than different. To equate him to Bush isn't necessarily accurate. But comparing his politics against Obama's and Bush's, he's FAR more like Bush - which means less change. Is McCain another Bush? Realistically, no. But he's the closest thing to Bush who's got half a chance of winning. Is it FAIR to compare him as another Bush? You bet. A charge of 'more of the same' against him is far more accurate and substantiated than the lies and unsubstantiated claims made by McCain's campaign against Obama.
McCain saying "That's not fair" in THIS campaign is like the pot calling the kettle black. McCain thinks it's okay to lie about his opponent but complains his opponent's factual comparisons of him to Bush are 'distortions'. So add one more item to the list about how McCain is like Bush: A hypocrite.
