Health Care
Anja of SC:
Sie haben ja Recht! I too lived in Germany and health care is superior there - and more accessible - especially for small businesses and the self-employed. It's basically two-tiered, with public and private (upgrade to business class) options.
Service is super. Waits are short. Before insurance, charges are a fraction of what they are here. Rich people from less developed countries (e.g. Russia, UAE and Saudi Arabia) are going to German private clinics and hospitals.
Obama's plan is vastly superior to McCains and a strongt step in the right directon. Originally put forth by former Senator Bill Bradley of New jersey, it allows us to buy into (not forced) into the private "cafeteria" pool that covers federal employees. Read up on the approach. It's a deal breaker. McCain's plan is a fiasco.
Obama would change healthcare for the better
I think Obama would be much more inclined to make a change to better and affordable health care. He is open to new ideas. Also, I think Americans need time to get used to the idea of Universal health care. I bet if people would travel the world, watch the BBC channel, read foreign newspapers, they would change their mind.
My daughter just came back for an 18 month military tour from Istanbul Turkey. She said my grandson had to go to the local emergency room there. A doctor and 2 nurses attended them and they've done an Xray and it was $40 for them being a foreigner. If they'd be Turkish it would be free. Turkey is not a rich country at all!
Health insurance for the self employed is unaffordable
I am self imployed and my insurance is going up the roof, not to mention my deductable! I am seriously cosidering going back to to my home country Germany if this doesn't change. At least I know I don't fall through the cracks. This is crazy!
See here what American have to say about our healthcare living in Germany:

McCain is wrong about health care too
The McCain plan claims among other things that companies will pass along to you employees the money they'll save from not paying for their employees health care. Nothing could be further from the truth. The plan is designed as one more giveaway to big corporate contributors who are really up in arms about health care costs. They don't care about health care reform or worker productivity, they just want off the hook for those costs to enhance their bottom line. Every initiative in the Republican arsenal is designed to shift health care costs to the individual consumer and family. Hillary really had the best plan for most average people but Barack's is a much better deal for the vast majority of us who now buy insurance for themselves or get it through work. At this moment, their server is down but check out www.health08.org for an objective comparison of the plans
The Health Plan-or any other issue
It was shocking to to talk to friends and co-worker and find out just how little people know about any position that either candiidate has. They know who thy're voitng for though. No wavering there...
I have great employer health coverage
My employer offers great health coverage. I don't know how much it costs them but I know that I will not be able to come close to it on my own.
Keep in mind too, that it is a Tax CREDIT that McCain is offering, not a $5000.00 check.
Please research what independent analysts think about both plans.
Intelligence counts!
Which insurance company would insure Palin and her down syndrome child
I would like to know how much an insurance company would charge Palin for health insurance on her child with down syndrome. I doubt they would do it for $5,000. More likely the child would not even be covered if she had a McCain plan.
Free Market Anyone?
I feel many people do not understand the concept of a free market when it comes to healthcare. By taxing the employers more it forces people to take their money ($5000 credit) and use it in the open market. The spirit of competition will then adjust prices accordingly so the resources (healthcare) are going to their most efficient use. The standard of healthcare will rise as low quality programs will be washed out. The most efficient way to allocate resources is in a free market, and healthcare is no exception.
Across state lines?
So McCain wants to have health plans that operate across state lines? Let's look at what happened earlier this summer in California.
Several health plans were forced by the State of California to reverse recissions. That is when an insurance company decides that your treatment is just too expensive, and looks for any errors or omissions in your application in order to retroactively cancel your coverage.
While this is a legitimate practice when fraud is concerned, these recissions were for unintentional and/or minor errors and omissions. The people affected not only were cancelled, but were on the hook for treatment received prior to the cancellation.
The State determined that these were abusive practices designed to save the insurance companies money, and they were forced to reinstate coverage as well as pay large fines.
So, when your insurer cancels your policy for cancer treatment, and you are left to pay $100,000 or more for treatment that you have already received and thought was covered and paid, and can no longer get treatment because you cannot afford it, what will you do? When you cannot get other insurance because you employer no longer offers group plans due to the taxed benefit under the McCain plan, and you cannot get another individual plan due to your pre-existing condition, what will you do? When your state's insurance commissioner cannot enforce its laws on the insurer that cancelled you, because they are in a different state, what will you do?
This is the McCain plan.
O My God
We must be stupid to think that McSame wants to help the people!
This McCain Plan is not a health plan its a another tax increase for the Middle class and poor.
For the rich its a drop in the bucket and its an other tax break for companies.
It is a a handout of 5000 dollars per person to the insurance companies for nothing.
This is the worse thing I ever seem for "we the people"
God help us if this becomes into being.
