New Abortion Study Fuels Criticism of Obama and Praise of Palin

abortion
As JANE RUSSELL says:"People should never, ever have an abortion. Don't talk to me about it being a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body. The choice is between life and death."
Describing her shock at finding herself pregnant at eighteen: "The only solution was to find a quack and get an abortion. I had a botched abortion and it was terrible. Afterwards my own doctor said, 'What butcher did this to you?' I had to be taken to hospital. I was so ill I nearly died. I've never known pain like it."
Crack babies?
Hey, binglebug,
Very insightful comment. I've TOTALLY changed my pro life views because of your amazing logic.
Yeah, right.
You don't have to adopt any babies, crack-addicted or otherwise, to be against murdering them. I think society SHOULD take care of these kids, but a lot of people (you?) would just prefer to have these young girls take care of the mess for us.
Peter, here is your evidence, Mandy right on!

In the 20 months following the MA parental consent law, 1800 minors traveled to 5 neighboring states to have an abortion, accounting for 88% of the "decrease" in abortions in MA. Cartoof, Am J of Public Health 1986
In Mississippi, the abortion rate did not decline significantly after the parental consent law was implemented.
The real agenda is to make abortion illegal. I say -we should trust young women and women to make this decision. This is about religious freedom. Your religion dictates one thing, mine allows me to follow my conscience.
Let's work together to PREVENT abortions by providing comprehensive sex ed and access to birth control. Rather than continuing to spend $1.5 billion tax payer on abstinence only which has been shown NOT to work.
See Sarah Palin - eloped and had her 1st child 8 months later. See Bristol Palin - obviously did not abstain until marriage.
Do as I say, not as I do? Teenagers hate hypocrisy. I do, too.
Stats
I'm a bit confused here as to what the drop in abortion rate actually shows -
The study states that the abortion rate for teenage girls dropped from 13.5 to 6.5 per 1000.
Now does this mean per 1000 'pregnant' teenage girls or just per 1000 teenage girls?
An essential difference if your going to look at what the causal factors are in eliciting a drop in abortion.
If they're talking 'per 1000 teenage girls' then the drop could be attributed to an improvement in use of contraception / sex education etc. If the abortion rate goes down, but not as many girls are getting pregnant, then it's ridiculous to attribute the drop purely to the parental involvement laws.
Question for Sarah Palin and pro lifers
So how many crack babies have YOU adopted? If none, sit down and shut up.
Pro-Life
How amazing that these groups are so firm on abortion but so unconcerned about an abused child. They force children to have children and then when these unfortunate babies are beaten, abused, abandoned--you never hear about these oh-so self-righteous groups running to their aid. I volunterred for a women's group and never saw any of these groups offering any help what-so-ever to the beaten, abused, and abandoned women with children. I wish they would stop preaching about hell and brimfire and come down off their self-imposed pedastals and face the reality of life. Preaching abstinence does not always work as Gov. Palin can confirm. We need some realistic solutions and if they cannot come up with real ones then don't condemn and criticize everyone else's. Until you walk in their shoes, you have no right to condemn.
abortion study
It's nice the abortion rates went down. But that means that children were having children. Since they were unable to take care of them selves and got pregnant by mistake, now they can have children and not want them and not take care of them. What an improvement!!!!
Abortion
So, if it is OK to kill a child anywhere during development from fertilization of the egg through delivery - the so called partial birth abortion, why then is it a crime to kill a child once born? It is still the same creature, except that it is now out of the woumb. Perhaps we should change our laws and allow parents to kill their children at any stage while under their care, and for any reason includding just getting in the way of life ...
New Abortion Study
Hey, if we can reduce abortions with parental notification laws, think how much more successful we'd be if all pregnant females were immediately locked up for the duration of their pregnancy. Giant breeding farms would serve the two primary goals of the pro-life movement: abolishing abortion and controlling every aspect of women's lives (not necessarily in that order, of course.) A two-fer!
Check Stats for Neighboring States
What this study fails to show is that states that have partenal notification laws do have lower stats for teenage abortion yet if you look at the neighboring states you will notice an increase in the rate of teen abortions.
Teens are just going out of state to have their abortion so it is not that the rate is lowering. Why do you think all of these states are also trying to pass legislation that would make it illegal for teens to travel across state lines to get an abortion.
Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and not just the "stats" you want to see.
