Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air
For libertarians and fiscal conservatives, Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. She actually seems to believe and articulate a Reaganesce view of the strength of free markets and free ideas.
It is the government programs that have heavy laden our citizens with unintended consequences and burdensome taxes and regulations. Whatever happened to "First, do no harm."
Palin
I have read all 22 comments about Sarah Palin. Isn't it amazing how the liberal weenies come out of the woodwork when they are threatened by a real conservative with brains and beauty. Lets face it folks, the dems are scared and do not know how to address this new threat.
Iraq is God's Task For Us
Ms. Palin stood and said - in front of a church audience - that Iraq was God's task for us. This she said in support of Bush. Unbelievable. Why in God's Name would I vote for her? McCain has made an incredibly poor, rash decision.
Country First? Should be Family First
The theme of this years convention is Country First... Maybe it should be family first. Sarah Palin needs to put her family first instead of her political ambitions. McCain has made a hugh mistake. This women needs to be home with her infant and her pregnant teenage daughter. Her daughter needs her help planning the shotgun wedding. Lucky for her daughter Sarah is a card carrying member of the NRA and can handle a shot gun.
Be honest - Pro-Birth, NOT pro-Life!
Abortion foes keep calling themselves "pro-life" when virtually ALL of their positions demonstrate only that they are pro-BIRTH. All they care about is whether or not these babies get born. After that - tough luck, kiddies!! Seriously! I wonder: how many of these so-called "pro-life" folks OPPOSE adequate sex and birth control education that would enable young adults to make RESPONSIBLE choices about sex and thereby avoid unwanted pregnancies in the first place? How many are opposed to daycare funding and support for poor and unwed mothers/fathers to help them become better parents? How many steps have they taken to streamline adoption processes? How many orphanages have they built to house all of the abandoned and or neglected babies that would result from reversing Roe vs. Wade? Are they ready to cope with the deaths of their own daughters/sisters/wives due to back-alley abortions? What about all the babies with severe handicaps and drug addictions, for whom it is much more difficult to find homes? Who is going to care for them? They harp on Obama's more nuanced abortion stance and say they don't consider a baby "punishment." If that's the case, then why do so many "pro-lifers" come back with the old "You play, you pay!" line in defending their own abortion stance? Like it or not, ALL of us will be paying for a majority of these children if they're born - either through welfare or through the criminal justice system, which is where many of them will no doubt end up due to the circumstances into which their mothers are forced to keep and raise them. Personally, I don't like abortion and would support very strict regulations on late-term abortions - but I will NOT vote for any candidate who would make ALL abortions - even those connected with rape and incest - illegal. McCain's choice of Palin is a TOTAL pander to the evangelical religious Reich and its obsession with abortion over all else. How else does one explain Cindy McCain's wonderfully revealing notion that Palin's qualified to lead US foreign policy because Alaska is geographically close to Russia? Now THERE's a defense of Palin's "experience!" Plus, as we've seen through Palin's own daughter - abstinence-only education works SO well! The level of cynicism and hypocrisy rolling off the McCain/Palin ticket is absolutely staggering (and I say this as someone who, eight years ago, admired and would have voted for McCain. Of course, this was before he started kissing Jerry Falwell's feet and pandering to folks who want American turned into their own little private theocracy). Watching the right-wing pundits contort themselves into hypocritical knots, supporting Palin so blindly/uncritically, is pathetic. It's also deeply frightening, because entirely too many people seem to be listening.
abstinence-only sex education
Those who condemn Palin for her daughter's pregnancy, stating that abstinence-only sex education does not work. have conveniently neglected the fact that many teen pregnancies occur where contraceptive education is taught.
Does anyone think that education can have such a vital effect in discouraging teen sex these days. Our society "teaches" in so many ways, even in the media, that unmarried sex is great and is completely OK, even desirable...!
I and my children were taught that sex is intended as a special relationship for marriage, not just an urge to be satisfied anytime and anywhere. Fortunately we all made "correct" decisions, but sometimes just barely...! If contraceptives had been a "choice" for me then I certainly would have had teen sex, and once started would have continued as an OK thing to do, even if I got careless about the condom
If one of my children had made the choice that Palin's daughter did, I would do just as that family is doing ... love the new parents and especially the grandchild who has not done anything wrong in the whole process.
Sex Ed
Palin is an example of failed abstinence education, with no full scope education in birth control.
And what is Palin doing having a Downs baby?
Those poor children suffer so..
Palin needs sex ed along with her daughter.
Did McCain know about Palin's DUI arrest...among other things?
From the NYT: Among other less attention-grabbing news of the day: it was learned that Ms. Palin now has a private lawyer in a legislative ethics investigation in Alaska into whether she abused her power in dismissing the state’s public safety commissioner; that she was a member for two years in the 1990s of the Alaska Independence Party, which has at times sought a vote on whether the state should secede; and that Mr. Palin was arrested 22 years ago on a drunken-driving charge.
Palin Scandal Scandal
Talk about distractions on the sideline tonight at the convention. Have you seen these attacks on Palin, they are shameful. Ive even seen some questionable pictures of her at http://www.theveep.com Wow people will stop at nothing in politics
Pro-choise = Anti-Chance
While I applaud the Palins for supporting their daughter in her pregnancy, I think it raises the very valid point that abstinence-only education does NOT work. How can McCain and Palin promote their agenda against sexual education, birth control, and abortion, when they cannot influence their own family?! If their goal is truly to end abortion, it makes much more sense to educate and empower young people not to have sex AND how not to get pregnant if you do have sex. It would also make sense to invest in services to help support and care for those women who decide to have children even though they have no health insurance, no affordable child care, no personal model of healthy, involved parenting, and no employment.
As McCain/Palin do NOT support these things, I am left to believe that their abortion rhetoric is just that, rhetoric. The conservative middle class would be wise to open their eyes and see that all of their genuinely good intentions and convictions regarding the right to life are being used (again) by Republicans to get theri vote, after which they will go back to undermining true American values and robbing us blind.
