Police officers needs to seek support from other officers.
Please research ABC's 20/20 special report on our nation's police forces as it pertains to an unfortunate condition known as 'The Code of Silence.' They have a difficult and unfortunate row to hoe. Unfortunately, you have to have courage from the top down to overcome this condition and it simply isn't there, and never will be.
Like soldiers sent to war, police officers are put in situations they must simply endure. We are all responsible for the moral and ethical situations they must face each time they go on patrol. A lot can be done to ease their burdens, but as I stated, there is no leadership from the top down. Believe me; these officers suffer moral dilemmas every day. They all know a fellow officer guilty of a crime and can't tell without suffering retribution from a fellow cop. Remember New York City’s Detective Scorpio?
It’s just as much a reality today as it was then. Put yourself in their place, you will crumble too. I guarantee, you are no Scorpio. Few, very few are!
Police, war, the Patriot Act
Why do so many cops want to perpetuate the war in the middle east, even though it makes no sense whatsoever? Can it be the same reason they enjoy testing tazers on each other? Or kicking and beating a handcuffed man who is lying on the street? Or coming up a private driveway to ticket a teenage boy for moving his parents' car on their property with their permission? This is the Patriot Act mentality. This is what we will get if John McCain is elected.

Interesting to notice the level of intelligence and coherence in the comments written on behalf of bringing the country together vs. tearing it apart.
Thank you Senator Obama for inspiring this wave of democratic particpation and thoughtful civic action. We are the people we have been waiting for and have (finally) left the couch.
Now we just need to make our vote so loud - it cannot be denied.
What, me worry?
Am I to understand that President George W. Bush, the supposed leader of the free world, went over r to Saudi Arabia graveling and begging the inbreeds of Arabia to give him a little (just a little ) oils so he could make it through his final term?? Is this the shameful, disgraceful, spineless, nothing of a human being Americans want speaking for us? Search you internet database, when Gov. Bush was campaigning for the presidency, it was he so proudly and boastfully proclaimed, “I will just tell them to turn up the picket”!
Is this the same George bush that thinks nothing of sending our sons and daughters into Iraq over and over and over again, until they are dead or until they become the wards of their families and healthcare system? None of his daughters have gone. And I have no doubt that that new son-in-law of his has completed at least four tours od futy in Iraq. Hasn’t he??
Is this the same ‘smirk the jerk’ that is offering China help with its earthquake victims? Has some one mentioned to him that many of our own citizens are still camped out under the Interstate-10 ramps that flow though New Orleans? Has anyone told him?
Is this the same person who claims to bring peace to the Middle East in eight months in order to cleanup the mess he and the little Rice girl caused during his eight years? Or is this just a way to divert attention from a crumbling domestic situation? Is he really planning to travel abroad as long as possible, return just in time to dump everything into the next president’s lap and, according to his very own words, “Go back to Crawford and put my feet up”? He really knows how to ‘kick –the-can’ doesn’t he?
Let's have a dialogue with those countries that disagree with us.
I am a life-long voting Republican with some pretty conservative views. My father used to say that when it came to politics, I was two steps to the right of Atilla the Hun!
But this year I have decided to vote for Barack O'bama in the general election in November. I feel that he has a unique grasp of geopolitics as we enter the 21st Century.
I am a veteran of the Viet Nam war, have read over 50 books on that tragic 'conflict' and believe that if our post World War 2 leaders in Washington had only understood history better, if they had even a basic knowledge of Vietnamese history and culture, they would not have gotten involved in that war.
The Vietnamese have always been fierce nationalists, determined to reunify their country. They never had anything against Americans. They just wanted us and all the previous foreigners to go home and leave them alone. I think that most Viet Nam combat vets would agree with me on this.
Barack O'bama has lived overseas and has a good grasp of other cultures and their history. He realizes that the United States is not the center of the world, that there are other cultures out there, quite different from ours, with people who don't want our culture forced upon them.
So when O'bama drives home the point in his speeches that we Americans need to end our involvement in Iraq, change our policy, sit down and have a dialogue with leaders of countries that don't like us, he is absolutely right. Nixon did it with China and Russia. We can do it with Iran and the other countries in the Middle East.

To the police officer who talked about "real republicans not aligning themseves with terorists", you may want to get your facts right considering all the people that the Bush administration has "aligned" themselves with - ie. Osama Bin Ladin.

My response:
People of many races, creeds, and colors fought in the war of independence to become free of domination by a white ruling class.
America belongs to all of its citizens -- every man, woman, and child of every race, creed, color, and varying abilities.
Obama is competent and capable of managing the power of the office of president to benefit the public good. That is why I am a white supporter of Obama for President.

It is truly refreshing to read the comments of hope over and over in this list -- omitting the racist and the policeman who is incapable of embracing change.
We, the people, must make this happen. We truly have a chance to change the way Washington works. Beware of those who say Obama hasn't enough experience. Experience of what -- how Washington works? That is what his campaign is about -- getting rid of those who keep serving one set of special interests after another.
