3 Things You Didn't Know A bout West Virginia Primaries

1. In 1960, John F. Kennedy's victory over Hubert Humphrey in the West Virginia primary proved pivotal to his campaign. Kennedy was far behind in the polls only weeks before the vote, with feedback showing that many West Virginia voters were nervous about his Catholic faith. In the weeks ahead of the election, Kennedy campaigned heavily throughout the state, famously saying, "I refuse to believe that I was denied the right to be president on the day I was baptized." Kennedy was successful in bringing West Virginians to his side— he won the primary decisively, earning 60.8 percent of the vote to Humphrey's 39.2 percent.

2. For this election cycle, West Virginia Republicans made a change to their primary system in an effort to drum up interest in their state's contest— a late-in-the-season contest which is often ignored. Party officials decided to hold a nominating convention in February that would award a portion of the state's delegates. Eighteen of the state's 30 delegates were decided on that Super Tuesday contest (won by Mike Huckabee), with the remainder to be allocated on May 13th. Democrats allocate all of their delegates May 13th.

3. Another first this year: West Virginia is holding an open primary, meaning that independents and unaffiliated voters may vote in either party's primary—but they will need to request the appropriate ballot at the polling place.

W Virginia Primary

W Virginia could settle this election by voting for Obama

West Virginia

West Virginia could give Hillary the opportunity that she is looking for. That is, to make a dignified and, graceful exit. I hope they will afford her that much.

It's not over yet, please give a landslide vote for Hillary. She's experienced, tested, and maturity to become the president. Unlike her opponent, he got no plans to solve our economic problems.

Smart & honest WV's

I hope that W.V 'ians have seen through the Obama deception and will give Hillary a good vote total. Obama cannot win in November. People are starting to see through his silver tongue, no delivery campaign and his affialiation with some characters that dont have this countries best interest in mind. This freedom that we all enjoy is not" God given' . Alot of good Americans have sacrificed plenty so that we can enjoy the life that we have in this country. It is all of our responsibilty to have the courage to pass this legacy on to our descendants. Obama has polarized this country more than it has been in years. With black voters voting over 90% for Obama it is very evident that this is occuring. VOTE FOR HILLARY

Hillary's best state

This is Senator Clinton's best state in the nation demographically. Expecting Obama to do well here is like expecting Clinton to do well in the District of Columbia Primary. The vote margin should be 40-50 points. Bordering counties have given similar margins for Senator Clinton, even way back on Super Tuesday.

CLINTON'S CONSTANT LIES & DECEPTION

ONLY LOW INCOME VOTERS ARE HARD WORKING.

BLUE COLLAR WORKERS AREN'T SMART INOUGH TO WEIGH THE ISSUES AND VOTE.

SHE HAS LIVED SOME KIND OF A POVERTY LIFE STYLE. (THEY HAD A SUMMER HOME WHEN SHE WAS VERY YOUNG.) SHE HAS LIVED THE HIGH LIFE ALL HER LIFE. SHE HAS NEVER EVEN USED AN ATM COFFEE MACHINE??!!

SHE HAS BEEN BORN OR LIVED THROUGH HARDSHIPS IN EVERY STATE SHE HAS WON AND SOME SHE HASN'T WON. SHE CANNOT RELATE TO HARD WORKING AMERICANS, WHITE OR BLACK OR ANY OTHER COLOR.

WHEN THE CLINTON'S LEFT OFFICE THE COUNTRY WAS IN A RECESSION. THEY BENEFITED FROM REAGONOMICS IN THE BEGINNING AND THEN TOOK THAT DOWN.

THEY PARDONED THEIVES AND STOLE WHITEHOUSE GIFTS THAT THEY HAD TO RETURN.

WHAT SHORT MEMORIES YOU ALL HAVE!!

smart and honest wvs

It is so unfortunate that folks have such myopic views in that Obama is seen as polarizing ,based on the black vote in one stae while failing to recognize the states where he has won where the black population is minute,if at all.

At the same time if the american people could open their eys and vote with a 'broader view" {which does not seem likely for some} , and take in all the facts and simply look at the candidates for what they are likely to bring to the table" is the main point being overlooked. The issue on "experience" regardless as to whether we are talking about Obama , Clinton or McCain seems to me to be so far 'Out of the frame" .since the only persons who have "experience" are the former Presidents who have served a second term; like the current one, and we all know where that has brought the country....

How on earth can we be argueing abourt "experience" when none of them have been there?'

On the issue of deception Hillary Clinton was shown on more than one occasion with the "Misspoke" words of "being pinned down with sniper fire, when the photos showed her standing on the tarmac along with the many persons from the flight quite calmy. at present there are 3 perosns who are 'in the frame' for the President of the United States ,..Isn't it best to decide on integrity, honesty, sincerity, based on the information they are giving ? Hillary has told other 'untruths" during this campaign period , that those who are judging honesty would well take heed.

let us be honest and recognize that glibness is when one tells you a story about something they experienced , but in the end it was not the reality of the situation. mis- spoken words are ones that are simply dishonest, so let's not talk about deception.

Perhaps the polarizing factor is within the heart and the minds of the biased who still refuse to be true to themselves as to what they are 'feeling" and why.

Obama-WV

It would be nice if fellow "blue collar" white folks (I hate the term blue collar by the way) could show the rest of the country that those of us in West Virginia will not be seen by everyone else as uneducated bigots. I am becoming rather embarrassed by the media portrayal of my state as the last bastion of hope for Clinton because we are full of blue collar bigotted white people. Good people live here and plenty of us can vote for a man or woman of any ethnicity. My hope lies with the new generation of young people who appear to move beyond the stale attitudes of our grandparents.

Hillary

With West Virginia and Ketucky, Hillary could show the super delegates that she is not finished. We know so much about this woman. What do we know about Obama? What is his health care plan? Do we really know? We do know that Hillary wants every citizen to have health insurance. Let's all have the same health insurance that Congress has.

Hillar can win in November. I really believe that.

Obama for a new America

There was a movie titled"Hombre" with actor Paul Newman. Paul Newman protrayed a mixed breed Indian who was forced into helping a group of White travellers whom had just been robbed by the towns Sheriff. The White travellers were also faced with one of the travellers attempting to escape with money he had stolen from an Indian Reservation. This group of travellers did not heed the warnings of Paul Newman about the perils of their situation and on several occasions tried to undermine his efforts to keep them all safe. People .....we are floating in space on this big blue ball together. We are spending way too much time fighting against each other. This experience of life deserves to be enjoyed and cherished. My love for life and prosperity is the same as most of us .

Please, let us see thru the years of our ignorance about this journey that we are all travelling on.

This Island Earth is in need of us to love it in return for this precious gift.

"In Fairness to Hillary"

Sharing this article with you to show how Hillary has been unfairly treated all this time. Democratic Party Wasington folks this time behave VERY BADLY! Read it yourselves -

And people have been saying GOP is behind Obama campaign. Karl Rove is involved.

Voting for MYSELF

I a 45 year old female and have a strong affinity towards Hillary, but Obama is gonna get my vote this time. I strongly believe that voting for myself is my vote for Obama. I do not believe the Hillary or McCain care enough about this election to give either of them my vote, and I use their long-histories in politics to make this claim. They've each been in the Senate for some time now, and this country has systematically gone down hill. So, I'm not about to buy their rhetoric about how they're best for this country...They're saying this in order to divert attention from what neither of them has managed to do while in Washington. At least Obama, who hasn't been in Washington long, has managed to accomplish some 'across the aisle' legislation passing, and frankly, between McCain (who no one trusts anyone since he's now a 3rd term of GWB) and Hillary (who just voted for the war, period...and now wants to act like she didn't realize what she was voting for, yet everyone knew Cheney and Bush were planning this pre-911. Heck, I have never been a politician and frankly, I think most inexperienced people can do a better job than either Hillary or McCain. Barack Obama is like putting myself behind the desk in the White House. Making sure that the truth comes out about politics is all I care about and frankly, the man does tell the truth, at least compared to these other 2.

Hillary and 'experience'

I have been reading a lot regarding Hillary Clintons' 'experience'. I don't see it. The Health care initiative she, and her husband, presented as the darling of their program, failed miserably. Her handling of that issue polarized more then it unified. What else is there ? The unbelievable furor over Whitewater lasted forever and was never publicly settled. The humiliation heaped on her via Lewinski seemed not to faze her. So, what does matter ? Seems to be nothing, except a percieved god given right for the Clinton machine to attain the presidency once again. Now I am listening to the most demeaning racial overtones of all in her pleas for support in areas she portrays as 'white, blue collar, less educated, etc'. The people of West Virginia deserve better then that.

I prefer to focus on what Obama did not do. That is, he failed to pander toward future political positioning and voted not to authorize the debacle in Iraq. The invasion marked the bleakest most self -serving, cynical administration we have ever had in office. Our country will be recovering from this for decades.

I support the straight forward dialogue and solutions Obama suggets. It took courage to withstand the Bush,Cheney cabel when they were piling untruth on top of fabrication in order to justify the Iraq invasion. If integrity means anything at all,Obama stands head and shoulders above the Clinton 'old boy' miasma.

West Virginians

I sincerely hope that West Virginians turn out in droves and that they vote somewhere closer to 50/50 than "overwhelmingly" for Mrs. Clinton. If there's that great a difference I believe it will be seen by everyone in this country as an entire state refusing to vote for a black man. This country has fought a war and gone through extreme civil unrest during the 60's to settle this issue. It should not be present in our society today.

Let's Unite, Not Fight

Democrats Unite! Barack Obama is our best chance for a Democratic president in November and he is a person who knows what it is like to deal with polar opposites. That is why he is so good at uniting Democrats and Republicans in the Senate. People who view him a "polarizing" simply because he obtained the Black Vote have obviously overlooked the quadruple plus numbers of White Vote and Other votes he has obtained in every state so far. I find it interesting that if white person votes for a white candidate no one calls it "polarizing" or if women votes for a woman candidate or a man votes for a male candidate no one cries foul play.

I find it interesting, that even in my own family, a white man is voting for a white man, a white woman is voting for a white woman, and a biracial man is voting for a black man. Lucky for some of us in this country a white woman (me) is voting for a biracial/bicultural man. We are not voting on who we see in the mirror people we are voting for the next president of the United States. We need to Unite together and elect a leader who will represent all of us and I believe that Barack Obama is that candidate!

There has been a lot of speculation as to why white-working-class-uneducated Americans are not voting for Obama. Most of the white people I see discussing the issue on TV are in my demographic of well educated professionals. We compete in a world where you either are smart enough to do the job or you're not. Race and sex have long ago ceased to matter. Well, since I was home over the weekend and I have relatives in that particular demographic, I asked.

The biggest concern they have with Obama is not trivial issues like flag pins or the Reverend Wright, the problem is affirmative action. They don't have a lot of education but they do have common sense and are not the total fools that the press make them out to be.

When you’re at the bottom of the economic and education scale, it’s hard to accept that you have to stand aside because there is someone less privileged than you. It’s hard to see your kids being passed over for scholarships because they don’t have an ethnic heritage. If you're poor and white, you don't ever get a free pass from having to do the hard, dangerous or dirty work. You either have to do the work or quit. The people on the low end are afraid that even more will be taken away from them and given to minorities.

Obama touched on these issues in the speach he gave on race relations, but he hasn't offered a convincing solution yet that will quell their fears. To win over the hearts of the poor whites, he has got to convince them that he will help their situation in live and not make it worse.

Vote Obama

What a blessing to come together as one America and vote tomorrow for our party rally around the one with the MOST votes, delegates popular and now super delegates. Let's start now and support the candidate in the lead. Shock America and stand up for our party.

Words based on polls, UN to be over U.S.

Anyone remember how Bill Clinton would spin on a dime if the polls showed something was favored or not favored? Rumor had it in 1999 that the Clintons (both) favor allowing the United Nations to have authority over our sovereignty and try our leaders and generals in a world court (hmm, a double edged sword). We need to hold our leaders accountable to the world and ourselves as a people, not some crazy world organization. Now imagine this, socialized everything, no accountability for words or deeds and a UN authority over the United States. Is this truly what we want people? Oh, and let's not forget what good friends Bill Clinton was with the Chinese and allowing high tech secrets to get in their hands in 1998. Or that he could've gotten Osama Bin Laden long before he attacked us.

Now realize, all this is all based on our journalism which is borderline truth sometimes, so take this with a grain of salt, though, it bears further examination before being so quick to vote for Hillary. Barack has yet to show his full hand, let's see what he's got. At least he got it from a grass roots movement that could not be accomplished before the internet existed. We can take it back, we can take it Barack to the Future (hehe, a little humor there). He wore a lapel pin, woohoo, at least he's accountable for Reverend Wright's comments, who would willing admit that guy's sermons to the public. That would be like asking Bill Clinton if he ever had sexual relations with that woman.

vote with your head

For those who still have a vote to cast, make your vote your decision, not who everyone has already voted for. Read the candidate's points or ideas and make a decision, not because CNN, Fox News, NY Times or anyone else who wants to "script" a perfect ratings raking election coverage for 6 weeks.

Don't believe everything you read. I understand the passion that Charles from FL writes but let's think about some of the comments made. "he could've gotten Osama Bin Laden long before he attacked us." I don't see the point being stated that the window of opportunity would have also resulted in the killing of a Saudi Arabian Prince and most likely would have not just alienated us against our strongest ally in the middle east but also started world war 3 with the arabs vs the western world. How about the statement "at least he's accountable for Reverend Wright's comments"? When exactly did Barack admit to them? After a week of being underfire for supporting him? After seeing his numbers declining every minute he continued to stand by his side? Did Barack call those statements disgraceful when he heard them over 20 years? When this matter was originally brought to his attention last year? Or even when he made him campaign spiritual leader? What can be seen as more disgraceful is how Barack sold his friendship and maybe his own beliefs down the river to win an election. Maybe Barack's personality is not to ruffle any feathers and that's how he could justify all those nonvotes under his record of his state senator's position.

All I am saying is since the media is only worried about ratings and Barack going for "history" would be the big ratings, they are not giving fair journalist new stories and it is up to America to research the truth and decide on their own beliefs not because the media says so or you are afraid of either being racist or sexist.

Obama-

This is a rejoinder to people like "IN" whose mindsets and ideals are retrogressive and put spanners in works of a greater America. We dont need people like this making comments along racial lines. They should see beyond ethnicity, color etc. Selective process should be based on individual profile. America is on crossroad and Obama is the beacon of hope that will herald a new dawn for the American people. ,We all know who is better equpped to get America out of her economic doldrum, declining image overseas etc - no other name than the phenomenon called OBAMA

when a white vote for a white it is not polarising but when a black vote for a black it is.let be true to ourselves ,are we not been hypocrates.

Jobs for WV

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Governor Manchin is taking offense to an upcoming film that uses negative stereotypes of West Virginians.

The horror thriller "Shelter" starring Julianne Moore is recruiting extras with unusual physical features for a scene in a West Virginia "holler." Those scenes are scheduled to be shot starting Sunday.

The casting call says the film is looking for extras who are extraordinarily tall or short, those with unusual body shapes and unusual facial features, and even people with physical abnormalities.

"Why must it be automatically assumed that those who live in the hills and hollows of places like West Virginia are all afflicted with physical and mental abnormalities?" Manchin said.

Vote Obama!

Dear West Virginia!

A vote for Hillary is a vote for Hillary, but a vote for Obama is a vote for a better America!

Tradition helps, could hurt too

World cahmps fall, mostly, when they commit error of judgement or fail to act in fear of whatsoever. With the best training institutions, equipage, manpower and the overwhelming haulage of Nobel prizes annually, shouldn't we worry that the best thinker is best only in potentials?

Nothing in the books forbids a woman president in a liberal democracy where the US claims global overlordhip - Britain, Germany now, Israel India, Sri Lanka, some Scandinavian countries earlier, even Liberia now and France nearly so!

Even more so, nothing other than lack of commosense forbids a leader from being chosen by his potential beneficiaries on the account of race.

Whichever way things go in the year of the lord 2008, the US will make a solid statement of either electing its first ever "black - isn't his mother white? - president, or fail to chose its best, perhaps not for want of competence but his race.

Hi Obama

I know your presidency may not produce all that's been hoped or feared by America, black, white, red, yellow and all but I can think of no alternative presidency to better or even equal your youth, vision and potential as the new unifier.

If you don't make it in November, to all the citizens, not to your shall i send my empathy.

Republican Opinion...

Funny as this may sound... As a Republican, It will be an easy decision for me to vote, if it is Clinton v. McCain; it is the Obama v. McCain decision that would be the tough one for me. I just shake at the thought of isolating the world any further from us. I think that world unity should be the goal for the future!

Vote Obama

Dear West Virginia,

I truly love the "The Clintons" and how they lead the White House, which brought peace and prosperity. Then we took 2 steps backwards with the Bush administration and his economic plan which is now hurting many Americans across our country. Not only is Black people feeling the pain, but Whites, Blacks, Browns. I understand your state is 95% white and can appreciate your culture. However, this primary election race takes our "Country" to the next level; people can unite and work together in bigger and better ways. I am so proud of this young generation who has moved beyond the awful attitudes that lies deep within our soicety. .

West Virginia, you must admit that "Senator Obama" has ran an educational , fair, clean, energized compaign. This country needs to turn the page and grow as a "Country". And those of you with old mentally, ought to be tired.
