Bail out

ughh Bear Sterns was bailed out as part of the New Deal Policy. The government cannot let a bank colapase again. This is what happend in the Great depression and everyone panicked pulled out of everything and it all fell apart. Since then a major part of the government and the economy has centered on not allowing that to happen again. This is not a save the rich guy scheme it is save the whole system so we are ALL ok. It may not be perfect but they decided after the depression to take these steps to prevent that from happening again. Why do you think they don't mention recession? Because they are too dumb to see one? No. They know if they say it it cause panick and things to get worse. I can't believe you people are voting for my kids next President it makes me sick.

Hillary logic is simple & straightforward. Oil companies are making record profits. OPEC and oil gaints are effectively a cartel. Getting some of BIG OIL profits to help inflation hit poor families make a lot of sense. A tax can be effective if it is well administered. With the Clintons it can be done well. Of course if it is Bush you can forget about it. Just look at the execution in the Katrina disaster. Bill Clinton excellent economic track record stands in sharp contrast with Bush horrible legacy. Hillary faithfulness, standing behind Bill despite his indiscretions speaks of strength not weakness. Her never say die determination and focus will make her an effective President. Obama is an unknown risk. Given US enormous internal and external problems, it cannot afford an unknown risk. The reality is that to run the country well the President needs to work with Congress and Senate. Rhetoric of change in DC cannot face up with the day to day reality with working in an establishment of more than 200 years. Hillary Clinton is the best choice. 2 Clintons for a price of ONE is obvious. Hillary is a Carpet Bagger plain and simple. If voters think she can actually deliver any of the things she has promised in the last few weeks this country's intelligence has not changed since the post civil war. OPEC?

Oh my goodness, an all out attack on all oil producing countries? I thought that attacking oil producing countries was passé' due to Iraq not quite working out as planned. An attack on other countries who are selling us their minerals, oil in this case, seems way too 19th century for an enlightened Democrat. Perhaps an attack on those other oil consuming countries would be more effective. Liberate them like Iraq was liberated and I am sure worldwide demand would go down. Mrs. Clinton's economic theories need a tune up. Of course more likely she doesn't mean a single word, this is simply two dimensional cartooning of the world for her political base, which she must think are extremely dimwitted. Actually we are quite insulted and would prefer an actual plan rather than a scoundrel attempting to stir the masses.

out of touch economists

Even though almost +70% Americans believe that we are in a recession, the majority of the economists still don't believe that we are in a recession. They claim all sorts of statistics and technical definition to defend their views. People are suffering, and that is the fact! no amount of technical definition can gloss over these pains.

These rich economists, friends of Obama and Obama himself laughed at how small $35 to $70 saving for the people. They dismissed it as laughable and gimmick. Well, it is not a gimmick for some folks when this means another week or two of groceries, a few more trips to go for job hunting. Why do these folks make such a big fuss to give people a small break and did not make a peep when Bear stearns was bailed out?

how about sustainability?

Cheap gas means more gas used, means higher prices. So the "break" will never be one. Beside, show me a workable definition of "windfall profits" that stands up in court.

As long as I see cars parked with running engines, open windows and roaring air conditioning units with no-one in them every day, I say gas is way too cheap. Compare with gas prices in Europe, $8 per gallon, anyone? And people still drive too fast there.

Maybe expensive gas will persuade more people not to buy that SUV and use the train or subway every once in a while.

At the end of the day, oil will run out, making it cheaper, will bring that day sooner.

PS: If you drive a few miles to save a few cents per gallon, you will lose money.

Hillary pumps more gas

Hillary is trying to push this holiday gas tax relief as an issue in order to make Obama look bad. And she wants us to ignore all the economists are telling us its a bad idea. She isn't that stupid that she thinks its a legitimate effort to help the oil crisis. But she is hoping we are dumb enough to jump all over a $28 carrot.

But not to worry. She has declared the oil cartel no longer a cartel in her eyes. We have them up against the ropes now don't we Hillary? They will really beg for our mercy when oil hits $200 a barrel.

You have to give her credit for having lofty goals. No matter how unrealistic they may be inspite of her claim of 35 years of experience.
