I'm sick of this argument that we don't have to listen to elitist experts and at least Hillary is doing "something" to alleviate gas prices...This is the same mindless attitude that got us into Iraq. Strong leadership that pursues a harmful policy is not admirable.

Obama does have a strategic long-term plan to improve prices at the pump, and it involves lowering demand by enforcing fuel-efficiency standards on the auto industry. Prices are rising because the global demand is rising. A gas tax holiday would have the opposite effect that it is intending because the seeming savings would stimulate demand. Also, the oil companies are not going to lower their prices by 18.4 cents a gallon just because they are scared of Hillary.

But then again, it takes political courage to stand up for the truth, and that's never been Hillary's strong suit. I guess those elitist experts who wrote the NIE report in October 2002 were out of touch with the regular working folks, too. That's why she could shirk her senatorial duty and vote for war without ever reading the facts.

Oh Goody! Just what we need is another reason for OPEC countries to smite the U.S. economy! And just what the hell does she actually plan on DOING to them to cause a sharp drop in commodity prices traded on a world market?!

As Americans have been tied to the profits of Mobil-Exon and Chevron, (et al) and realistic alternative fuel alternatives have been ignored for the sake of someone's profitability; what does Hillary plan on doing that is going to make OPEC and our own petrolium producers suddenly start selling sweet lite crude at half the going rate?

We could produce alternative energy sources. A hydrotourch that breaks water down into its' component gasses, burns them and leaves a byproduct of WATER has been in existence now for three decades or more; but this is not going to be profitable for Mobil-Exon and their cronies.

I think Hillary just wants to excite people that she really is a witch and can summon mysterious power to change the world situation to her whim. After all, look at how this deceitful witch has hoodwinked half of the Democratic Party.

The Democratic fools are going to hand another election to the Republicans. By early March we all knew that Obama was the nominee. Clinton has nothing to gain from this outrageous behavior unless you believe she prefers McCain in the White House for the next four years. Maybe she's already planning her 2012 run? Better to run against McCain in 2012 than follow-up Obama in 2016, don't you think? Until March my strong preference was for Obama but I was willing to accept Clinton as a distant second choice. After seeing Clinton in action for the past two months I can no longer vote for her. Although I disagree with most of McCain's positions, at least he is a decent person -- relative to other politicians, not to humans in general. I can't say the same for Clinton. In the end, I don't think it will matter which candidate the Democrats nominate, the damage has been done and it's too late to turn things around -- McCain has won without even having to fight, the Democrats have beaten themselves.

Hillary is trying to push this holiday gas tax relief as an issue in order to make Obama look bad. And she wants us to ignore all the economists are telling us its a bad idea. She isn't that stupid that she thinks its a legitimate effort to help the oil crisis. But she is hoping we are dumb enough to jump all over a $28 carrot.

But not to worry. She has declared the oil cartel no longer a cartel in her eyes. We have them up against the ropes now don't we Hillary? They will really beg for our mercy when oil hits $200 a barrel.

You have to give her credit for having lofty goals. No matter how unrealistic they may be inspite of her claim of 35 years of experience.

Cheap gas means more gas used, means higher prices. So the "break" will never be one. Beside, show me a workable definition of "windfall profits" that stands up in court.

As long as I see cars parked with running engines, open windows and roaring air conditioning units with no-one in them every day, I say gas is way too cheap. Compare with gas prices in Europe, $8 per gallon, anyone? And people still drive too fast there.

Maybe expensive gas will persuade more people not to buy that SUV and use the train or subway every once in a while.

At the end of the day, oil will run out, making it cheaper, will bring that day sooner.

PS: If you drive a few miles to save a few cents per gallon, you will lose money.

They claim all sorts of statistics and technical definition to defend their views. People are suffering, and that is the fact! no amount of technical definition can gloss over these pains.

An attack on other countries who are selling us their minerals, oil in this case, seems way too 19th century for an enlightened Democrat. Perhaps an attack on those other oil consuming countries would be more effective. Liberate them like Iraq was liberated and I am sure worldwide demand would go down. Mrs. Clinton's economic theories need a tune up. Of course more likely she doesn't mean a single word, this is simply two dimensional cartooning of the world for her political base, which she must think are extremely dimwitted. ughh Bear Sterns was bailed out as part of the New Deal Policy. The government cannot let a bank colapase again. This is what happend in the Great depression and everyone panicked pulled out of everything and it all fell apart. So the buzz is Hillary's out, short of some miracle. Of her, all I'll say is that in her campaign I saw somebody who was spewing out a lot of nonsense (along the lines of what this article was about) and desperately using every resource at her disposal like that insulting and manipulative ad about who will pick up the White House phone at 3.00am. Although a lot of people will deeply hate her losing the race, it's time to put an eye on the prize.

Our country is in debt. It is at war. We need jobs and not of the service variety. We need universal health care, if only to weed out the middle men and change the bottom line from money to the wellbeing of the entire populace. We need to reestablish credibility, at home and abroad.

Of a higher scale, US energy policy has us in a stranglehold. Our way of life and our infrastructure outpaces world supplies of energy. Competition for that energy is fierce and its dwindling. For growth, things expand and accelerate, yet unless we plan on burning ourselves out foolishly, we need to innovate new methods of extracting energy while enforcing energy mangement policies as soon as possible. And related to that, environmental threats are on the horizon and must be met with all the intelligence, ingenuity, and strength of character our people can muster if we are serious about our longterm welfare.

Only somebody who is insane or courageous or ignorant would want to seriously shoulder the greatest part of these burdens.

Although this election is important, the reality is that whoever wins will be engaged in a battle against high expectations and will struggle in gaining the leverage, in congress or abroad, to create some of the changes we need. Mr. Obama has during his campaign has called for idealism and change. His words sound superficial to me but he will need great reserves of those things if there is even a slight chance of him manifesting his speech into reality. We should not be surprised if by the end of this campaign, let alone his presidency, if he becomes a creature a little more hardened, alittle bit wiser but darker. He's going to be much older before this is through.
