Obama and Black Liberation Theology

"The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology."

James Cone defines the theology as thus:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Did Obama not know that he was attending a church whose very mission was centered on a Marxist and racist ideology? For 20 years, he didn't research the core beliefs and mission of his church? Now, he casts aside Wright who is merely preaching what the "church" actually stands for.

Wow, get a life and get over this. This man is not running, and obviously, the sum total of his or anyone else's opinions are not the sum total of the church's opinions, or any parishioner's-- just like how the pope is against gays and abortion and even evolution, but that doesn't mean all catholic churches or all catholics are. Can we move on now and maybe talk about the economy and um, maybe the WAR?

Interesting to hear the use of the term, by it's definition , the un-reverend Wright, fills the definition very well, and his abuse of "Christianity" for his "Black Liberation Theology" is tragic as it is unbiblical.

If one wants to look back 40 years, I'm sure the racist quotes by southern white religious leaders were more numerous and just as vicious.

How about putting the country's past behind us and focussing on which candidate can best solve problems and lead us into a prosperous future?

Obama's Church is Based on Black Liberation Theology

The fact is that Obama's church practices and advocates Black Liberation Theology. That's not speculation or conjecture -- and the only one's trying to conceal this are the media and Obama. Why? Because this ideology would be found repulsive to the majority of Americans. An ideology derived from Marxist ideals and racist identity need to be explained by Obama -- just as Mitt Romney needed to explain how Mormonism would affect his ability to lead this nation. Obama doesn't want to explain it -- Rev Wright does. Obama wants folks to understand that those who practice Liberation Theology cannot separate politics from faith -- since the ideology itself makes no such separation. If he is ashamed of the principles that his church embraces, say so. If he adheres to these principles, that adherence should be known. What's not going to work is being intellectually dishonest about the ideology that has influenced his life the past 20 years. Blaming Wright for views that are consistent with this ideology and the mission of the church is dishonest. Explaining Black Liberation Theology can be done now or in September, October and November.

I'm sick of Wright. His performance on Monday night shows that he's a very vindictive and possibly crazy man.

The US has come a long way from back then!! Look, a black man is running for president and a woman is running for president. That counts for something.

Wright has not done anything to change my support for Obama. In essence, it made me more supportive of him.

Crikey. It seems like us Americans have, once again, a shining chance to get it right, a chance we seem once again doomed to miss. Why don't Bush/McCain and their Republican cronies have to explain their long and heavy association with druggie megapreachers who rent gay prostitutes? Or the long history of CIA drug running? Or their entrenched interest in selling arms to propped-up third world dictators in ecxhange for sweetheart deals on natural resources? This is dcumented stuff!

I've had it up to here with the lying hypocrites. I prefer honesty, which leaves room for the transformation and change that has occured. I am so bloody sick of Scientologists, hypocrite right-wing "christians," Ayn Rand devotees, Ramtha followers, and freakish Mormon rapists running the power in this country with their Ego-drives 'success.'

We have a chance to elect an honest man. Let's take it.
