Clinton's Pennsylvania Victory Exposes Vulnerabilities for Her and Obama
Clinton's win in the critical primary gives her momentum, but it also highlights the potential problems for both Democrats' campaigns
Hillary Clinton's solid victory in Pennsylvania's Democratic presidential primary yesterday kept her campaign alive, but it also exposed both her vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of rival Barack Obama in a general election race.

Clinton won 55 percent of the vote to Obama's 45 percent, with 85 percent of the ballots counted—reinforcing her reputation for toughness and tenacity and demonstrating the appeal of her years of experience in Washington. Obama, meanwhile, showed resilience, perseverance, and the power of his message of change. But at the same time, the Pennsylvania campaign also underscored the negative side of each candidate—notably, the argument that Obama is weak with white voters and can't win the big swing states that will be crucial in the race against Republican John McCain, and the critique of Clinton as an untrustworthy tribune of a discredited status quo. These criticisms, which became part of the daily tug of war between the two rivals, will be potential ammunition for the Republicans this fall.
At a victory rally in Philadelphia last night, Clinton set aside her negativity and tried to be uplifting. She promised to be "a president who's ready to lead on Day 1," both as commander in chief and as manager of the economy. She promised to "fight for everyone who's ever been counted out....You know you can count on me to stand up strong for you every single day in the White House." Clinton added: "Because of you, the tide is turning."
For his part, Obama told a rally in Evansville, Ind., "We are here because we can't afford to keep doing what we've been doing for another four years" and called for an end to "the same old Washington game." He echoed his past criticisms of Clinton, without mentioning her by name, by saying the Democrats have two options: They can be the party that says or does anything to get elected, or with him they can work to regain the trust of the American people.
He also criticized McCain for representing a continuation of George W. Bush's policies on the economy, Iraq, and other major issues.
Despite Clinton's win, Obama comes out of Pennsylvania retaining a slim lead in delegates that will be difficult for Clinton to overcome. Obama now has an estimated 1,714.5 delegates (including superdelegates) to Clinton's 1,589.5, according to the Associated Press, with 2,025 needed for the nomination. Since the delegates in Pennsylvania were distributed proportionally and based on congressional districts, Clinton apparently made a net gain of about 20 to 30 over Obama, according to AP's preliminary analysis.
It's possible that when all the Pennsylvania returns are counted, Clinton will be virtually tied with Obama in popular votes—if the ballots from the disputed Florida and Michigan primaries, won by Clinton, are counted. The fate of those two states' delegates has not been decided by the Democratic National Committee.
Obama spent an estimated $11.2 million on TV ads in Pennsylvania, compared with Clinton's $4.8 million. Clinton, a senator from New York, is in debt, while Obama, a senator from Illinois, is flush with cash from his huge number of small donors. One of Clinton's big challenges now is to raise money as quickly as possible.
Clinton advisers say she will hammer home the themes that worked for her in Pennsylvania, especially that Obama is too inexperienced and untested to be president and that he can't defeat McCain. Clinton also plans to criticize Obama for refusing to debate her in North Carolina and Indiana, which hold primaries May 6. The Clinton team argues that Obama did poorly in the last debate, in Philadelphia last week, and he is afraid of making more stumbles. Obama's advisers say there have been enough debates and voters aren't clamoring for more.
Exit polls in Pennsylvania showed that Clinton did well among white voters, union members, seniors, gun owners, those who attend religious services regularly— especially Roman Catholics— and Pennsylvanians making less than $50,000 a year. Obama won voters with college degrees, the affluent, young people, city voters, and a huge majority of African-Americans.
Now the campaign moves to nine more contests, including the Guam caucuses May 3 and the primaries in Indiana and North Carolina May 6. Obama was favored in all three contests, but that was before Clinton won Pennsylvania and gained some momentum.
If the two candidates amass delegates in roughly equal measure from now on, as is possible, the final decision may be made by about 800 superdelegates—Democratic leaders, elected officials, and activists whose decisions on whom to support are based on their own judgments and aren't linked to the outcome of the primaries and caucuses.

It's Time
IT'S TIME AMERICA:
It’s time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have defeated her. And proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources. In all honesty. I felt some of that too.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say’s that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton’s have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)
Obama
Obama is our Savior. Obama, Ayers, and Reverend Wright are Right! God D*** america! The stupid, bitter, racist "typical white people" of pennsylvannia voted for clinton. How disgusting. They ignored their opportunnity to redeem themselves for their racist past - slavery - and finally make Michelle proud. How sad. Please no hater responses, but do please stop buying guns you biiter small town hicks, and save it for my reparations check! Obama '08, Repartions Check, '09!
More electable?
How does Hillary Clinton continue to say "she is more electable?" At my last count, Obama has taken 28 of the 45 contests - he may have lost the "large states" but the last time I checked, the small states had a major say in this. Clinton is doing irrpearable damage to the party, and is setting up McCain for the fall. She is not "entitled" to the position...the country is making that clear. Obama was able to cut a 20 point lead in half...I think he would be fine come November.
Final Pennsylvania Margin
At last we have the final margin for Hillary's won last night in Pennsylvania and it is 9.2 per cent - it was always so crucial she had double figures and so much was made at her Rally last night of the "Magic" 10 per cent - nothing was said about the 27 per cent lead she entered the PA Campaign with, where did all those Supporters/Voters disappear to????.
Up to Monday evening Clinton's spokesmen where briefing private polling was showing a 17 per cent lead where do all those Supporters/Voters Disappear to????
So The Big Truth is Hillary left PA with no real progress in Delegate numbers, final figures are not released but looks to be about a gain of 15? all she leaves PA with is DEBTS now she will go to Indiana and North Carolina and build up even MORE DEBTS! for a campaign she can't afford.
Will at last some of The Elders of The Democratic Party break rank in two weeks time after these two Primaries and demand a resolution to this race, it is looking likely.
I wholeheartedly agree
This has become a mockery as opposed to an election. How can CNN go on the air last evening and say that Hillary Clinton won the primary in Pennsylvania FIVE MINUTES after the polls close? They didn't even have 6% of the votes counted. It seems to me that the press wants her to stay in this race so bad, they'll do anything to make it happen. And as far as these "Superdelegates" are concerned, why are they involved in the first place? What happened to the "people" voting for who they want to see elected? Where's the Constitution? I, too, am so tired of "dirty politics". I hope the proper candidate emerges victorious in spite of all of this nonsense.
PA results
The actual updated tally is 8.5 percent difference, not a double digit 10. Please report the correct percent.
what has obama done?
Obama talks about high ideas. But in reality what has he actually done? What has he done to prove that he can bring republicans and democrats together? His voting record shows that he has voted mostly liberal. In many issues he has no differences with Hilary. He increased his wife's salary 3-fold the 1st year he became senator. Other than that WHAT HAS OBAMA ACTUALLY DONE?
what goes around
yeah right no matter what we do hillary feels that she is entitled to the white house she is ready to play dirty GOP politics. To me she still doesn't have any more expierence than her rival it suprising she is going down this road. But what goes around always comes around when she gets the nomination she will get a favourable test of what she is giving her rival.............. i can't wait for this. I personally feel the only chance the demos had was when Edwards was running to me when he suspended his campaigne i felt that the demos lost the election then.
It's time indeed
Jacksmith said it all. Nobody doubts Obama's likeability nor do they disagree with his plans and ideas. But America is not likely to put a 46 year old newcomer that has ideals of changing Washington overnight. Hillary knows how to play the game with the equipment provided. She will change Washington in due time, and with Obama as her VP he would gain the valuable experience needed to win the election in 2016. Obama won't beat McCain and then we'll all be back in the same snake pit.
Wake up call
Hillary didn't "win" Florida or Michigan! Please report these facts fairly.
Obama either withdrew his name from the contest in one state, and didn't campaign in the other!!! He respected the national Dem party and their sanctions of these states for breaking the rules. Hillary was all for the states losing their votes until she needed them!
I am sad the votes of all these people won't count, and I hope to find a solution. But come on here, end this media bias and report the TRUTH!
Obama
That is the sad and pathetic type of narrow minded racist thinking that has gotten your candidate into trouble and shows why he is not electable. This race, despite yours and Obama's best efforts to make it such, is not about race or some sort of perverted idea of redemption for past greviences. This election is about the type of leadership needed to put this country back on track on both the domestic and global stage. You really need to seek help for you misdirected hate and lack of ability to be accountable for your own life!
I am an American living overseas. I am simetimes confused by our people and news organisations. they keep harping about Obama's in ability top win large states and Hilary can do much better. If that is the case then it is why isnt Hilary leading the delegates count? The fact that she does well in big states could also indicate that small states doesnt matter to her. If I am a true democrat why would i vote for Mc Cain if I dont get my choice of either Hilary or Barack? Obama is a new comer and he is doing so well with america's grassroot oprganisation that goes to show where his real support is- with the ordinary people of America. I beleive that Hilary is doing well because of her race. White America who represents the status quo scorn the idea of a black President.
Hilary has been touted as untrustworthy but ius winning. A woman who lied about sniper fire in Bosnia is winning and a woman who supported her husband with the Nafta trade deal is winning in areas that Nafta is hurting mostly. How could this be?
Wake up America and smell the coffee. Barack obama is the only candidate vying for president who means well for the American people.
Obama
In response to the last comment left about "The stupid, bitter, racist "typical white people" of Pennsylvannia voted for Clinton." I would just like to state that your argument has quite the racist tone within it. I would also like to know what on earth does buying a gun have to do with you?!? Why don't you tell them to stop buying cars and houses while your at, so that they can just fork it all right over to you. Did you suffer from slavery? No, because it no longer exists! What America needs to do is stop focusing on the past and start concerning themselves with the present and future. Instead of saying where's my money why aren't you saying I can better my community for my kids. What can I and the others around me do to make our children's lives better. I agree racism is still a very large issue at hand, and "the typical white people of Pennsylvania" may not be helping but niether are you by saying that. Get out there make a true difference! Inspire someone to make a positive change in your community! And I don't mean by writing negative messages about "small town hicks" who like shooting guns. I shoot guns on the countries best trap team in the country, that doesn't make me a "hick" i'm also not a stupid, bitter, racist. I have friends from all different nationalities and I am also a feminist and equalitist. That doesn't mean that I am voting for Clinton or Obama. I vote on issues based on the candidates political views and experience, not on what race or gender they are.
Clinton or McCain
I, for sure, would vote for McCain over Obama. I know by the surveys that I am not alone on this! And I don't want to see another Republican in office! Clinton better win this or we may have another Republican for President.
Math
Actually the final results equates to a 54.68% margin of victory which in applied mathematical rounding equates to 55% or a 10% margin, double digit victory. Do the math for your self;
1,258,278 votes for Clinton devided by the total number of votes 2,300,851 with 99% reporting.
Try as you might you cannotspin the numbers or the simple math. It was a double digit win, period.
Complain, complain, complain. Obama LOSES, yes LOSES, Pennsylvania and his supporters cannot handle the fact that he does not appeal to the bread and butter voters of the democratic party. At this point delegates don't matter because FINALLY Obama's major general election weaknesses have been exposed. Yes he gives a good speech. Yes, I believe he's a good guy. But, he has no experience. Who, in his/her right mind votes for a candidate with no experience to tackle the damage inflicted by the worst president in our history? He's the guy in the company who is opportunistic and leapfrogs to the top without doing the work in the trenches. Hillary, on the other hand, has a strong record of working for chance within the system and that includes many times reaching across the aisle to get this done. She is a proven leader, a grittier competitor, and she is indeed the person to lead this nation and mop up its problems. Superdelegates will see this soon enough when she wins Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky. And they, as they showed in February, have no qualms about moving from one candidate to another even after pledged support. This race is far from over. So quit complaining and do some serious research about who really is QUALIFIED to be commander in chief in this race.

The race for the presidency
I have now watched Hillary cry, Hillary lie, Hillary being desperate and Hillary fight dirty politics. I am a part of the Democratic party because it represents the majority of the people, people who carry the weight of America on their backs. I am very disappointed to see this campaigne process being carried out to this length, I think that as a Democrat and an American this should stop. Its time to chose. Obama is slated to win the next 3 states and he will.... I previously had a lot of respect and admiration for Hillary and never thought she would stoop to the levels she has but when you are losing a battle what else do you have to lose, just go for broke at the price of dividing the party in half.
Black, White, Brown, Yellow, Orange, Purple, or Green, the real issue is that we need change. We need to get the republicans out of office and try to stablize our economy, exit out of Iraq, deal with social issues...healthcare, elderly care, education, jobs, etc. and stop focusing on where someone attends church, rumors that are not verified as truth, etc, etc,. I think that there are a whole lot of issues that Hillary could have been attacked on but Obama did not chose to take that path. He is a man of his word. Last time I checked there was a subject matter called presidency 101 which could be enrolled in. Good leadership is something you have a natural talent for, there is the ability to unite people and deliver a clear message.
So neither Obama nor Hillary has taken presidency 101, but I know that at 3 am in the morning I would not want Hillary there because it seems that her emotions are not so stable when the going gets tough.
Regarding the breakdown of who votes for who, whatever fears and prejudices continue to plague this nation, it time to wake up!!!! Everyone has their own opinions and already know who they will vote for, I am not interested in the same old politics: Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton........ It is time for this country to change, unite, and make a difference for our children. Its time for the old time poli-tricks to end, its time to head to the white house for justice, truth and economic prosperity.
Please vote for Obama, vote for change, don't be a divided party......Obama for presidency 2008!!!
Hillary
I hope she does scar the democratic party, for treating her the way they are. Well behaved women never did make history. I want the dems to win in November, but when people continuously criticize and attack Hillary, it's ridiculous. It's terrible and a great discredit to democrats and America. It's Hillary against Barack, the media, newspapers, the establishment-----I'd be gettin pretty negative too if I were her. I'd be whoopin' ass and takin names.
Clinton won and lost big.
Clinton won by 10% but lost most of her 33% lead.
She netted 15 delegates.
Obama picked up another superdelegate to day,
The Governor of Oaklahoma.
Breaking News. He's White !!!!!
YOU ARE SO RIGHT JACKSMITH OF TEXAS
HOW APROPOS YOUR WORDS AND INSIGHT. YOU SIGN SAYING YOU ARE OF THE WORKING CLASS BUT AT 23 YEARS OLD YOU ARE WISE BEYOND YOUR YEARS. I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY AGREE WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT. WOULD THAT OTHERS COULD SEE THE SENSE IN IT ALSO. THANK YOU. I LIKE OBAMA VERY MUCH BUT I FEEL HIS TIME MIGHT BETTER BE SERVED LATER, NOT NOW. WE NEED THE CLINTON'S SAVVY OF THIS POLITICAL MACHINE TO CLEAN UP THE MESS GW LEFT US. THIS IS A HERCULEAN TASK NEEDING ALL THE FAVORS AND CONTACTS THE CLINTONS HAVE FROM YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE.
BARACK OBAMA HAS LOST MY VOTE becuase HE HAS NOT DEFEATED EVIL HILARY CLINTON by now
BARACK OBAMA HAS LOST MY VOTE BECAUSE HE IS NOT A STRONG LEADER
and PERSUASIVE COMMUNICATOR (the PROOF lies in the fact BARACK OBAMA
HAS NOT DEFEATED EVIL HILARY CLINTON by now - America's #1 negative low-life slimy politician)
I have actively supported 200% SENATOR BARACK OBAMA for PRESIDENT over the last year here in San Francisco, CA - and because of the following reasons, I am switching my vote to JOHN MCCAIN:
1. Barack Obama cannot figure out how to defeat Hilary Clinton by now, America's #1 negative low-life slimy politician.
Hilary Clinton is an evil monster, a poor excuse as a political leader, a fake Christian, and an evil human being.
Barack Obama does not have the RIGHT STUFF to be America's president and defeat Hilary Clinton by now like Ronald Reagan did to defeat Jimmy Carter in the 1980 election year - and JFK did to defeat Richard Nixon in the 1960 election year
2. Barack Obama conducted a weak negative campaign in the Pennsylvania primary which is totally unacceptable - Barack Obama has lowered himself to Hilary Clinton's evil low-life slimy politician level.
3. Barack Obama does not know how to focus on and solely discuss the most important issues of this 2008 election year that major concerns educated Americans - ending the US war in Iraq and the fixing US economy to be fiscally healthy again!

Obama's foot...
He has to keep from putting it in his mouth. He can blame only one person for the outcome in Pennsylvania, and that's himself. He both angered and frightened people there, and they naturally reacted. Let's hope Obama hasn't given voters across the country a reason to rethink their votes.
ALWAYS EVASIVE
Every time Obama is attacked or questioned about legitimate concerns regarding his candidacy, whether it is his readiness for the highest job or his connection with some "famous personality" or his "bitter" comments, he dodges the question and goes into a barrage of his overused rationale of this attacks as ' games people play in Washington". It is time to take responsibility for your words and actions Barack................a President has to be responsible to get elected.....and you are lacking of it ....it seems.
What is wrong with you?
First off, the comment above that called Penn. voters "racist hicks" was not an Obama supporter. On the contrary, that poster was someone who was trying to make Obama and his supporters look bad. Just a bunch of "scare the white people so they'll vote for someone else" crap. Well, I am one of those "typical white voters" and all the demographics would say that I'd vote for Hillary, but they're wrong. That post doesn't scare me, and any of you who'd believe that that post was written by an Obama supporter are drinking something alot stronger than the Kool-Aid!!! Oh yes, if Obama wins, he'll take money from white people to give reparation checks to all the black people..(Sure, whatever.) You could have come up with something better than that, whoever you are.
As for the last post, the first poster is right, it is a 9% victory, and one we all knew was going to happen. I think if Clinton is such a miracle, how is it that she lost half of her lead in what should have been an easy win for her?
Oh, and 46 year old newcomer?? I live in Texas. Bush, Jr. served for a relatively brief time as Governor of a state that has a weak governor role. Where the hell was his experience? Bill Clinton was younger than 46 when he was running for president., as was JFK. Shame on you for not keeping hope and faith. Yes, let's have a corrupt person who has lost her ideals, instead of someone who's inspiring Americans young and old to fight for a better day...Ridiculous.
Media's lack of research on Obama
What is happening to Obama is quite predictable. Obama has been the darling of the media since this campaign began over a year ago. If the Reverend Wright, Louis Farakan stuff along with questions about Obama's patriotism, his association with former members of the Weathermen had been brought up by the media a long time ago, these things would have been dealt with and would not be on the table at this point.
The media in their zest to hammer Hillary Clinton and elevate Barack Obama has really done Obama a great disservice. Now that Obama is becoming better known, there will be questions and concerns raised about someone that we still know very little about.
World desires Obama
I am a Nigerian watching events unfold in America.I support Obama because he understands the nuanced context of international politics. Most times how most Americans have pursued foreign policy, and events overseas has shown ignorance of an insight of alternatives there were available.
I think he holds promise not just for Americans, but for the rest of the world. His worldview fits the what someone or anyone aspiring to be the President of the United States should have. It is the native intelligence you should be able to display when talking with those outside of the United states that connects with their world outlook.
Sometimes people don't understand that just his image alone says more things about America that foreign policies would ever have. It shows a moral side of America, and it's scrupulous conviction on ideas of freedom and equality that most desire everywhere, even where it is only latent.
The people spoke
Whatever analysis the people give, the facts are clear. HIllary has the lead in the popular vote despite her being behind in delegates. She won a major state in double digits despite the spending of her opponent. The race is not over and say what you will, she is a viable candidate for the November election. I am taking another look at her. I have serious doubts about Obama and I don't want to see another Republican adminstration.
Penn State and Racisim
Thanks to the media and Penn State citizens for igniting this into a racial superiority contest. The Democratic Committee leadership have stood by and allowed the same tatics of the Republicican party in which they said were devisive. Yet , Penn State as well as other have determined that Obama, white mother (DNA) and African father does not qualify Obama as white but, as (Negro) . African-American voters wake-up the party left wants leave us at the back door as unimportant participants, althrough this nation has an American born citizen that has met all the qualifications
If the party believes Hiliary is electable amongs American Irish/English (white) Voters and the superdelegates will determined the outcome, we should be posed to seek a balance of future elected official from both Republicans , Democrats and Independents officials. The policical landscape could change the electability of Hispanics,Asian, Arabs, Indians, Eskimos, et,al.
Penn State citizens who vote their racial hatred are not bitter but, lack the ability to use their American rights to weigh the issues over inherited hatred. Some day this type voter may select a white male who may use these voters to dismantle the respect for the American forn of government.
Howard Dean and the DNC should speak out against the media and Penn State for using racial profiling to elect our elected oficials. Mr. Dean show some party leadership before you sink the Democratic ship for the 2nd time
I wonder about this comment:
"I, for sure, would vote for McCain over Obama. I know by the surveys that I am not alone on this! And I don't want to see another Republican in office! Clinton better win this or we may have another Republican for President."
Why? When it comes to policy, Obama and Clinton are not very far apart, and they are both very different from McCain. How can you say that you don't want another Republican in office and still be willing to vote for one? If you like Hillary's policies, which are honestly quite similar to Obama's, how could you be so against Obama? I do not understand this line of thinking at all.
Used car saleslady
Hillary''s new slogan is " Why can''t he close the deal?" That would be because Obama is not a used car salesman like her. Keep counting those imaginary delegates from Michigan and Florida. If there is one thing that America stands for, is that We are a nation of Laws, and Michigan and Florida broke the Democratic laws. The Democratic Party is not going to show the rest of the country that they will break their own rules."If we had the same system as the Republicans, I would already be the nominee...." yet another Clinton scenario for winning the primary. Do you think that you can make any other points as to whether the superdelegates should back Hillary ? Why did the media fail to chastise Ed Rendell " There are some people in this State that will not vote for a black man" but they vote for someone who channels Truman and said " we can totally obliterate Iran" By the way that wasn''t McCain who made that statement... it was Hillary. I did not say Clinton, because you may have understood it to be Bill Clinton.
AKA
"Exit polls in Pennsylvania showed that Clinton did well among white voters, union members, seniors, gun owners, those who attend religious services regularly— especially Roman Catholics— and Pennsylvanians making less than $50,000 a year..."
Democrats: This constituency will vote in large numbers for McCain in the general. HRC is running to the right of Obama for the short game. What if her plan B is to lose the nomination to Obama and hope for a Dem loss in the general so she can be the savior in '12?
Democrats: Do we really want a nominee who destroys the best hope of the next generation by running as a republican, and who seems willing to gamble with 08 to better her position for 12?
CLINTON VOTED FOR IRAQ WAR
This is unforgiveable. Why is she even running? any high schooler could of figured out back in march 2003 that the run-up to this war was all a lie, i mean Iraq had barely even mastered the art of....well plumbing and somehow they pose an immediate threat to the mighty US? yeah right i think it had something to do with all that oil...and Clinton didn't care as long as we Americans were too scared of terrorism to say anything. these fear tactics are controlling us...wake up we are the real terrorists. did the half million innocent women and children dead in Iraq make up for 9/11? wouldnt a true Christian nation turn the other cheek? wasn't Iraq not even involved with 9/11 in THE FIRST PLACE? HOW CAN YOU FIGHT A WAR ON A CONCEPT? i mean she voted for it and has no repercussions......why are you people in PA voting for this woman? VA heard obama's message and replied! he is the best thing that could happen to this country right now so come on and vote.....
Clinton's false premise
The "popular vote" argument is specious at best, and deliberately misleading at worst - and unfortunately, the mainstream media are increasingly 'buying' this false pretense spun by the Clinton campaign, and 'selling' it to the public in turn.
The truth is that there is no measure of the 'popular vote' during this Democratic primary season that is based on actual fact.
There has been no measure of the 'popular vote' in states that have used a caucus based delegate system - states which have gone, conveniently for the Clinton campaign's 'popular vote' premise, overwhelmingly for Obama. Attempting to extrapolate a guess of what any popular vote tally might have been from caucus states based on guesstimates of what the turnout might have been if caucus states had been 'primary' states, based on caucus results, polls, or other estimates, are no more than educated guesses at best; as there were no official and certified measures of 'popular vote' in these states, the argument begins to fall flat, as it is based on a false premise to begin with - and even if there were a real measure of 'popular vote' in these states, the fact is that these states went for Obama, not Clinton, further undermining the specious 'popular vote' argument.
The Clinton campaign also counts the disqualified contests in Michigan (where Obama and other primary candidates were not even on the ballot) and Florida (where candidates promised not to campaign, but Clinton made a fundraising appearance anyway, and the DNC ruled that an Obama television commercial would still be allowed to run, as it was a national ad buy on cable television, and was not specifically targeted at Florida viewers), towards this imaginary 'popular vote' tally. As we have seen in previous contests, voters have consistently moved toward Obama as they gain familiarity with the candidates. Without the candidates having campaigned in Michigan and Florida, we'll never know how real, sanctioned campaigns in these states would have turned out, and how voters becoming familiar with Barack Obama would have offset their familiarity with Hillary Clinton, which, given the early contests, was largely based on her almost universal name recognition as a former first lady, compared to the other primary candidates. While it is necessary that the delegations from Florida and Michigan be seated at the national convention (and there should be no doubt that they will, once all is said and done, contrary to the false claims of 'disenfranchisement' by the Clinton campaign), it is a false argument to claim 'popular vote' totals from Florida (where voters did not have the chance to fairly compare the candidates) or Michigan (where most of the primary candidates did not even have their names on the ballot) toward an imaginary 'popular vote' tally.
Some states voted using a 'caucus' method, while those that voted using a 'primary' method did so in a variety of ways. In some 'primary' states, only registered Democrats were allowed to vote; in others, registered Democrats and Independents; in still others, there were 'open' primaries where voters of any party - Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, or other - were allowed to participate. Even within the subset of states that used a 'primary' process, the results can't be directly compared.
Yet the Clinton campaign - and increasingly, reporters, commentators, and pundits of the mainstream media - have increasingly turned to this false narrative, or arguing that states that Clinton has won are the only 'states that matter' - a self-serving fallacy that bolsters the Clinton campaign's increasingly desperate arguments to superdelegates to overturn the will of the voters by changing the rules of the game as the clock runs out, and serves the mainstream media's desire to boost their ratings increase advertising revenue by playing up the 'drama' of a continued primary campaign - the mainstream media's financial interests lie in a 'close contest', at the expense of real reporting of actual facts to the American public, and at the expense of their duty as journalists to serve in the public interest.
Jacksmith was so on
You were completely on the money. She is fighting her heart out, and as much as I think he has great ideals, we need her strength, her fight, and her wisdom. If he spends her 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 (depending on which report you look at), and STILL can't beat her, I think we need to stand back and look at that electability question in a whole new light.
Intellectual and Cultural Divide Exposed
The results of the PA primary seem to reflect a deep intellectual, and subsequent economic, divide within the Democratic Party. If analyses are correct the white, uneducated, blue collar worker, those typically with fewer economic resources, are staunchly in the Clinton camp whereas the college educated, more affluent folks are clearly supporting Obama. This fact has placed me in direct opposition to my own working class family who believe you can go back to some idealistic time when people without an education or college degree could secure a high paying factory job. My family has a crazy notion that Hillary has some great Presidential experience based on her first lady status. If that argument held water, then I could be a professor in quantum physics and solve complex equations because my husband is a physicist. We can never go back in time. The memory is very selective because If we took a critical look at the presidency of Bill Clinton things were not all so perfect. Bill passed NAFTA which did more to hurt than help the working class. Bill was constantly embroiled in one scandal after another which the Republicans spearheaded and took full advantage of. Bill also contributed to his own problems in that he had (has) very poor impulse control over his sexual activities. His behavior distracted us from serious problems. And now Hillary's behavior suggests she and John McCain are on the same page. Both boldly thumping their chests for a war with Iran. As for Obama, I guess my family was right when they professed that "a black man will never be elected" and their blue collar bigotry will prove that to be true. It doen't take a college education to analyze the motives of the "Obama is a Muslim, Obama is a terrorist" bigots. I come from bigotry, so I know it when I see it.
Edjeecation ain't all bad!
Obama
I'm voting for Obama because I believe that he'll be a GREAT leader. His "experience" is with honesty, intelligence, courage, respect, and inclusiveness. If more than 80% of Americans are unhappy with the direction our country is headed, why are we so afaid to change? Are we afraid that Obama will ask us to give up our prejudices? He's already asking us to be more responsible with our parenting, our health and our consumerism. Are we afriad to do that? Are we afraid to repair our relationships with the rest of the world, instead of "bombing the hell out of them"? We can be GREAT leaders also: in our personal lives, as parents, as teachers, as business leaders, as religious leaders.
Please join me and vote for Obama!
Hillary Clinton
I not only vote for Hillary Clinton, but I pray that she wins. I would like to know where Obama is getting all of his money, and I seriously have a problem with his name, no offense to him but it sounds alot along the line of Bin Ladens, that scares me, that he may have ties that we do not about, perhaps that's where all his money is coming from..............
Once Loved, Now Despised
I am a lifelong democrat that once love the Clintons. I have grown increasingly annoyed and sick of their style of politics. It reminds me of how much I hate the way Republicans use smear tactics to skirt real issues. Its not good for our country!!! We can see how good Bush has been for our country since elected. Thus, I am coming to the conclusion that the Clintons are not good for our country either. I'm starting to wonder if they are just Republicans in Democrat clothes. I only wish the rest of the nation would Wake Up and vote for something new.
Why Blue Collar White Votes Wont Go For Obama
I believe that blue collar white voters wont vote for Obama simply because he looks black(it is easy to forget he is biracial if one only looks at him). I do not believe that this country is ready for a Black president. It is too much for them. That is why this race is dragging out. It does not matter that he is the better candidate. It does not matter that he has great ideas and can get this country back on the right track. No when the majority population looks they see one thing "Black." I had hoped this country would have been able to move pass race as a main concern. But what makes it even worse it that we don't admit that race is an issue. We hide behind Rev. Wright ,the weatherman or whatever other thing comes along. I don't see anyone hitting Clinton with the Vince Foster suicide, her husbands' infidelities or travelgate. After all she stayed with a man who cheated on her numerous times-what does that say about her judgment? What about all the little racist things he says about Obama. Oh I know...he is a grown man and he can say what he wants-well if she can't control one grown man, how is she going to control a country? Something to think about. If Hillary Clinton somehow get the nomination, I will disenroll from the Democratic party. I will also NOT vote for her. If I wanted to vote for someone I don't believe in, I would vote for McCain. Rather than vote for Clinton or McCain, I will write in Obama's name. I will not compromise my beliefs just to see a democrat in the white house. I want the right democrat to be elected...the one who will listen to all the people- not just say what will get her elected.
Hillary as our new leader
Sorry to all you "jump on the bandwagon" democrats who voted for Obama. Just like church on Christmas....with the doors bulging with FAKE christians..FAKE democrats will also disappear.......................
For those who would jump ship to the Republicans if your candidate doesn't get the nod... I offer a different solution. VOTE THIRD PARTY! Why on Earth would you willingly give your vote to 4 more years of Bush Policy?! For the love of Pete! Are you really that angry?! Show some class, and some smarts! Don't vote Republican, unless you agree with their policies. Lets end the 2 ring circus and really CHANGE the way Washington is run! There are enough of us! Come on WAKE UP!

2008 Campaign
All those people who think that Obama can't get elected president are DELUSIONAL! They are suffering the blinding effects from the Clinton illusion manufacturing company! That's the one with lies, deceit, spins, and mischaracterizations that lead people to believe that the CLintons are something they're not! Mainly - HONEST! Why would ANYONE believe a Clinton about ANYTHING, with the mountain of lies, mendacities, spins, twists, and misprepresentations that they've made about virtually EVERYTHING in their lives since the country has come to know them?! Ducking bullets in Bosnia? Give us all a break!
The biggest lie Hillary is telling the country now is that her health care plan has a shot at passing! Did everyone's IQ suddenly drop 50%?! She's already TRIED that and it was defeated resoundingly before! First of all, we can't afford it - it's too expensive, and she has no way to pay for it - except to "tax the rich" - of which she is one, her and her hubby earning $109 Million the last 7 yrs! Maybe THEY should pay for it! This makes them "one of the people" HOW?? They made 80 million dollars in book sales between them largely discussing how Bill was a moral reprobate and how Hillary survived it! Sure, that's who we want as President. And how is Hillary in the White House not Bill's third term?
The only person running for president who HAS A CHANCE at passing a health care Bill is Obama. Remember, PRESIDENTS DO NOT MAKE LAWS! ONLY CONGRESS MAKES LAWS. A President can't put ANYTHING into law - only Congress. What you need in a president to get a law even INITIATED, is a person who CAN SPEAK PASSIONATELY AND INTELLIGENTLY WITH GREAT SKILL - like John Kenndy, who got us to that impossible place, the moon! And like Barack Obama, who, whether you like him or not, has GREAT speaking ability and oratory skills. That's what we need in a president who is going to work for us. Hillary Clinton has NEVER had that skill, and never will. She will not be able to convince Congress to pass an impossibly expensive health care bill or anything else they don't want to pass - and by now the whole world should know that Hillary is not exactly beloved or trusted by most of Congress, even her own party. The only reason they put her up as the front runner was (1) She's a recognizable female and the Dems thought she'd get all the female vote, and (2) they thought Bill would be a help in getting her there. It wasn't because she was best qualified! The Democratic party has MANY others better qualified than her, especially women. Kathleen Sebelius, the Governor of Kansas, who gave the Democratic response to the State of the UNion Address, is one of them, and is INFINITELY more qualified than Hillary ever could be.
Let us stop kidding ourselves that Hillary has ANY experience at all! She has NONE! That's right, NONE! Hillary Clinton does not have ONE SECOND'S worth of executive experience at ANYTHING! She was fired from the Nixon campaign, disgraced as a member of her Rose Law firm, crooked in a whole host of "gates" when First Lady, lied under oath, like her husband, and has spun her total and complete lack of executive experience into experience by reason of the fact that she was married - sort of - to her husband while he was Governor and President. Maybe it doesn't matter than any executive experience is necessary, but she shouldn't be lying and tellling the country that she has! Oops, there goes another round of sniper fire bullets! This woman is perhaps an even bigger liar than her husband - if one can imagine that. Her marriage is a sham, as is her "residence" as a New Yorker. The fact is her whole life is a sham, one big illusion, an act for the public so she can have the power that she craves, and vindication for her humilation at the hands of her presidential husband. If she had an ounce of decency, she would bow out and let Obama be the candidate so that for the first time in history, a qualified minority can represent this country, ACTUALLY helping ALL the minorities in the country get a step up, and increasing our prestige as a country of Aall free people in the eyes of the world! But she doesn't care about that, or that her health care plan can never pass, or that she has a feminist agenda which DOESN"T include and unite everyone in the country, or that she first backed the Iraq war, and now says she doesn't, or that she hyppocritically espouses that we should not want Obama as the Nominee because of the people he's known who say or do things we might take offense at, while the Clintons has a littany of unsavory characters and criminals in their lives that's feet long! A close look at Hillary Clinton shows a person who has the worst of everything America has to offer, and that's why you see Republicans salivating at the chance to run against her, since she will singlehandedly mobilize every Republican anywhere on the planet against her, not to mention many of the independants and Democrats who also dislike and distrust her - as they should. We've been here before, with a White House full of scandles and lies. Let's not go there again! W'e;d have the same people there!
Either McCain or Obama represents a far better choice, since they are people of far better character - regardless of wheter we agree with everything they represent, or like everyone they know! And the Presidency of the United States is not about MAKING LAWS - which they cannot do - but it IS about CHARACTER! And whether you agree with McCain or Obama or not, at least they HAVE IT! Neither Ciinton does - and that's who would be in the White House. Again.
our country is a train wreck
The only way Hillary can win the race (apparently) is to destroy Obama. Her last minute voters were holding their nose to vote for her. Her campaign has been nothing but negative. Now she has the audacity to say as President she will to stand up for all of us? How dare she? Who was she standing up for when she voted to support Bush's war? So Clinton destroys Obama-- and with him the first generation to have hope in years, is that how this is going to work out? All because of her personal ambition to be president? She has lost the race. 8.5 % won't catch Obama's lead. All she is doing now is taking air out of Obama's tires. The American people don't trust her, so even if she did manage to strong arm the primary system, she could not beat McCain. Hello endless war-- and a continuation of the looting of America. Clinton herself is a looter. Buyer beware.
Hillary is a Liar
Nothing can change the fact that Hillary Clinton voted to allow Bushco to plunder Iraq, and that she has campaigned in a manner that would do Karl Rove proud. Obama has not said that much of substance that would convince me one way or the other, but seeing how Hillary and her attack poodles went right for the racial attacks on Obama has thoroughly disgusted me with her. I am also disgusted at all the self-righteous "Democrats" who continue to support her even though she is a Republican in all but name. If you all are really that much in favor of the status quo then just cut to the chase and vote GOP.
Maybe if enough of us pulled our heads out of our asses and voted Green, we could put an end to this dog and pony show that never ceases to disgust me.
AKA ... you are the most whacked yet
Yeah, Hillary is keeping the campaign schedule she has, talking to 1000's of people a day, making her policies known over and over again ... so she can lose -- so Obama can lose -- so she can do it all over agina in 2012. You are out of your mind with that one.
I wish all of you could go back and find your "beginning of Hillary hate" momment. When did it start? Who told you something that started it? People speak about her like they know her. Like she was their boss and they found her despicable. You don't know her.
My guess is you decided you hater her for one of the following reasons:
1. someone you know said they hated her and you got on the band wagon.
2. you or someone you know listened to the hate machines of the 1990's - or the Main Stream Media of today - and told you she was an awful person (which makes you no different than the likes of Rush Limbaugh)
3. you decided you were an Obama fan and you accepted the precept that anyone who challenges him to tell us more about himself is a really, really, bad person.
Let's face it, Hillary hate is just another -ism out there with just as little substance. It's a belief system not based on reality , it's based on something else. She has never governed you, told you what you can and cannot do. You simply hate her.
It's too bad. She is the best person to LEAD us out of this morasse that Bush has left us. Obama is destined to disappoint. He can not do all he has promised to do for his most liberal followers AND appease the right. Either they will thwart him in his efforts or he will move to the center.
Hillary has already shown her abiltiy to work in centrist ways in the federal government. Obama has never taken sides. He avoids votes and has no record of working on bi-partisan legislation. Why should I elect him as my President?
The Democratic run for Presidency
I do not believe that Hillary understands the truth. She lied when her husband's first known mistress showed up, it was due to some evil conspiracy. she lied when his second lady, who enjoyed giving head in the oval office, showed up. it too was due to some evil conspiracy. She did not get her health plan through due to some evil conspiracy. I am sure that it had nothing to do with her having to have everything done her way and not bothering to listen or caring to listen to anyone else. All negativity in her run for presidency is due to someone else in her campaign, not her. The United States is in serious financial trouble and all people can speak of is Obama's minister of 20 years. If my minister had truly informed me of what was really going on in the world, as Mr. Obama's minister obviously did, I would be running for the Presidency, and would probably have beaten Hillary in every race. I am a black woman, age 67 with some form of intelligence, maybe not as much as Hillary or Obama, but obviously it matches most of the American people. It is amazing to me that the most devout, pious and spiritual people who profess the greatest amount of understand, love and wisdom, especially about someone else's life, are also the ones who believe that Obama may be a terrorist, a Muslim, a hater of his Country and only wants to be elected to overthrow the U.S.A. I am therefore seeking an Atheist immediately, in an effort to find the true feelings of the people in this Country.
Thank you, Christol
STILL WET BEHIND THE EARS
Obama is still very new to the world of politics, we need someone who has been at it alot longer than he has been, and who better than Hillary Clinton. She is diffently a person with backbone, knowledge, and she will show a great leadership. This country is already in a recession, please don't make it a DEPRESSION.
Those Who Agree With Jacksmith
To those of you who are writing in to agree with jacksmith: Jacksmith is a paid poster by the Clinton campaign. The "work" this "workingclass" 23 year old does is sit on his butt, all day, reading and posting on EVERY message board he can. He has been posting the same diatribe, with a few changes here and there to keep it up to date. He is not someone who truly represents your views. Now, I am fully aware that a good number of those writing in to agree could well be in cahoots with jacksmith. But to those of you who aren't, you've been duped. Duped by low-tech psychological warfare in this modern, faceless, instant feedback age. How's it feel?
Still cannot do the math?
Typically ignorant Obama supporters still cannot do the simple math and delude themselves into not accepting reality. It was a 10% win 54.68% equates to 55% in mathematical rounding you sad Obama supporters! Get out you calculaters, because we know how dependant you are on them for simple math, and punch in the numbers!
Solutions are stronger then Change
Change will naturally come but we need solutions. We need to have some progress and stop with the back and forth. Then Obama says We need to play washington differently please we should be past that. We need to SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS. And Hillary record has demonstrated that. One of the reasons is we are stuck on ani-abortion and pro-choice but we fail at trying to keep the abortion rate low! She had that idea and by that she demonstrated to me solving problems then "lets talk about how can we solve the problem"
Obama dosent have resilence. its Hillary and she is fighting for what we and her believe in. you talk about tip-toeing Obama around the ring but its Hillary that gets knocked down but she always gets back up before the referee counts her out. THat shows STRENTGH
Also someone said she was a warmonger. Please, your obama and the US better have an imagination and calculate the radicalness of Iran because they are a threat. You better have a consciousness and actually THINK
taking a second look
Hillary won't be saying on film that Barack is not qualified to be President now, because she knows the Republicans would air it over and over and over again if he ends up stealing the nomination from her. Yes, stealing it from her.
He intentionally chose to not help have re-dos in Michigan and Florida because he felt she would end up with the legitimate nomination. So he intentionally spit in the face of the voters of Michigan and Florida in order to "do anything" to make sure Hillary doesn't legitimately win the nomination. He is responsible at this point in time for the damages that will be happening to the democratic party.
The damages won't be a party breaking up when Hillary is voted as the nominee. The damages will be all of Americans remembering how a smooth talking "car salesman" almost convinced them to follow along with him as he spits on American voters and their rights. It will cause memories of the first black to run for office and how he used the most horrible and scummy tactics ever to try to win. How he said everything right and then did everything wrong.
Those actions of Barack alone are why I cannot ever vote for him. HIs own personal ego was placed above the voting rights of millions of Americans. ANd he continues to divert and flip/flop on explaining why he did this to them. He says basically "it's Hillary's and/or the DNC's fault that I spat on the Michigan and Florida voters". What a hypocrit. He's just like Bush - won't come clean when he gets caught and keeps blaming everyone else for his own acts or failures to act.
Barack's playing worse than the usual politics. Spitting on American voters is the lowest of the low. It's sad that, just like with Bush and Gore and Bush and Kerry, the media is once again persuading Americans to vote for the wrong person.
Michigan and Florida voters, along with the majority of the other voters, have spoken. Hillary is their choice.
To Brigitta and other haters!
Reparations - H*ll Yes! Check it out, last time I checked, NPR was not a front organization for anyone !

You "typical white people" who think your ssssooooo liberal or cultural liberated cause you like us - yeah right. Obama in '08, my Check is coming in '09. You want to know how we feel about you, ask Reverend Wright, Obama knows! TWENTY YEARS of listening to my Brother. And he never said a word till you "bitter" folks took after him!
Hillary
I heard the perfect summation of Hillary's desperate run. "She is self righteous as she is ruthless" I believe this to be true. She knows she can't win this and yet, she feels she is the only one who can run the country. Step aside Hill, the rest of us, um, most of us so far, prefer Mr. Obama. We believe that America is ready for an intelligent, thoughtful president, no matter what the race or gender. There is a reason Obama maintains his lead. People want him to be our president. It is that plain and that simple. Oh and by the way I am a white woman, 56 years old.
I'm a 50 year old white woman, and I'd never vote for Hillary Clinton. She is an untrustworthy politician who will say or do anything to win.
She claims she'll get us out of the Iraq war, but at the same time, she's talking about obliterating Iran which will definitely start another war.
She voted for the Iraq war. Now she wants to nuke Iran. She even fantasizes about sniper fire. Is she some kind of war hawk? Maybe she wants to go down in history as the president who started WWIII.
Hillary signed a pledge
She signed a pledge in Michigan saying that she would stay with the party and not have the primary in Michigan count. She signed it! and now, she says it should count. Talk about flip flop! She thought she would be winning by now so it wouldn't matter. By the way, you say we Obama supporters are math challenged? Well let's see if you can answer this: How many primaries has each of the candidates won? How many delegates have each of the candidates won? Who has the lead in the official (read no Mich & Fla)popular votes? You do the math. Obama is winning, still winning after everything the Clinton's and the media have thrown at him. He coninued to build a lead even after all the crap had flowns so in a way the clinton's did him a favor becuase now the Republicans know that Americans are tired of the crap.
Obama has not said that Michigan and Florida do not count only that he wasn't running in those states when they did vote becuase he kept his word. The DNC could not fiqure out a way to count Mich and Fla. It was not Obama's doing.
And why are the people who really know how politics work, the super delegates, flocking to him?
Split Vote
Question I have.
Let's say both (Senators) Obama and Hillary do not end up with 2025 delegate votes each by the time the primaries are ended. Let's say it

What about the Democratic Party?
Don't the super delegates realize that Hillary can ruin the Democratic Party in her quest to ruin Obama?I ,[age 79] and my grandchildren of voting age have been so excited about NOT having politics as usual. I'm afraid that the political process will lose me, but worst of all may lose an entire generation of voters if this dirty politics at any cost is allowed to go on. Super delegates, where is your backbone?
