Campaign 2008

Exclusive Interview: Nader Responds to 'Spoiler' Claim

Posted February 26, 2008

Did you like any of the original candidates?
Yes, I like Dennis Kucinich. In 2004 and 2008, I told Democrats to vote for Dennis Kucinich in the primary. And John Edwards made poverty a big issue. He made corporate criticism a bigger issue. His Senate record wasn't that great on those issues but he's changed, he's learned, and I'm very sorry that he's dropped out.

Do you find yourself at all drawn to Obama's message of change and hope?
Well, it is a little general, and I have tried to meet with him last year repeatedly, from April until August, and he never would give me an appointment. I would have met with him to give him some more specifics. He does have substance on his website and he's a very smart man, but I think there's a limit to general, inspirational language. After a while you have to come down and tell the American people how you are going to shift power, in all kinds of ways, from the corporate goliaths to the people.
