3 Things You Didn't Know About the Virginia Primary
1. Virginia had only two presidential primaries in the 20th century, in 1988 and 2000. The commonwealth also had one in 2004.
2. Current Republican candidate John McCain ran a close race with George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential primary. McCain gained popularity as the primary neared, but Bush won, receiving 59,100 more votes than McCain.
3. Lyndon B. Johnson was the last Democrat to win a Virginia general election, in 1964. Republicans have won since then, with George W. Bush being the most recent winner in 2004.
