3 Things You Didn't Know about the Connecticut Primary
1. In 2004, only one in five Connecticut Democrats voted, the lowest turnout ever recorded for a presidential primary in the state; neither John Kerry nor John Edwards campaigned in Connecticut, having opted instead to woo voters in Super Tuesday's bigger states.
2. Connecticut Democrats have a spotty record of picking winners. While they went for Al Gore (2000) and Michael Dukakis (1988), both of whom went on to become the Democrats' nominee, Connecticut voted for Jerry Brown over Bill Clinton (1992), Gary Hart over Walter Mondale (1984), and Ted Kennedy over Jimmy Carter (1980).
3. In 1996, Bob Dole's victory in winner-take-all Connecticut gave him 27 delegates. He lost in just one community, Union (population 546, according to the 1990 Census), where Steve Forbes beat him by one vote.
