3 Things You Didn't Know About California Primaries
1. After winning the 1968 Democratic primary earlier in the day, Robert Kennedy was fatally wounded shortly after giving a victory speech in Los Angeles.
2. In the 1936 Democratic primary, novelist Upton Sinclair received 11 percent of the vote.
3. Since 2001, California has had a modified closed primary system. Decline to State voters are permitted to vote in the primary if the respective parties have authorized them to do so. For the Feb. 5, 2008, primary, Decline to State voters will be permitted to request a Democratic ballot but not a Republican ballot.
