hardly anyone cooks just for himself. cooking is a service to others - often not adequately recognized - but as basic in life as it gets. kids learn to focus away from themselves that service is the key to a good life.

Also, nothing bonds better than cooking together as psychologists have found out in many kidnappings where they try to get victims and kidnappers to prepare meals jointly. people who prepare food together tend to respect each other. eating together will not go half as far.
