nonprofit for kids
my name is brenda i am 22 and have a baby i want to start a nonprofit for kids but dont know the first thing i have to do
I'm Sorry
If a person wants to start their own nonprofit who are we to say that they shouldn't. I couldnt care less if everyone in America had one, if they are helping people then more power to them. I think we are a nation of nay sayers when really we should be encouraging people to give and help in whatever capcity they see fit. When the conversation goes to what one should or should not do, that is the ego talking.

In some ways, absolutely correct (too many NGOs) but
my reason for starting one was that I was spending a fortune of my own money helping stray or homeless animals (mostly cats) who would have been destroyed at open-admission animal shelters because the "no kill" animals shelters were always full. What good would volunteering at either of those NGOs do the cats whose lives I wanted to spare? I also would help people in distress (being evicted for instance) and by forming my own NGO was able to deduct those expenditures too. There is a ton of good to be done by people who want to in the words of St. Vincent, "do the good that is before one." ... work NOT being done by the larger organizations. Spot On
Mt. Brest is absolutely correct that there are too many nonprofit organizations in this country. While we all applaud their good intentions, the field is littered with inefficient and highly duplicative efforts, many of which exist only because they are the pet project of a single funder.
The first instinct should not be "I want to start my own NGO" but rather how can my time and money be most impactful? 9 times out of 10 the good work in question is already being done. If one wants a job in the sector, PLEASE take a job at an existing organization and work to strengthen it!
