I´m a student from Chile. I´m working on my thesis which deals with Poe and his relationship with death and women. In order to write my first chapter I need to find some specialized websites that have to do with the position of Poe in the History of writing. And Poe's birth and death were just stops along the road, too. Poe was only born in Boston because it was the city his travelling actress mother happened to be in when she went into labor. And his death in Baltimore was literally just that: he stopped there while on his way from Richmond to Philadelphia.

It was while Poe lived in Philadelphia that he wrote his greatest works. Philly was the crucible for his imagination.

Come to the Philadelphia Free Library on Jan 13 for the Great Poe Debate in which Philly, Baltimore and even Boston will argue which city rightfully deserves to carry the legacy of Poe.

Why is it everyone forgets the where piece of it? He was born in Boston, MA! And while he was serving in the army in Boston Horbor they were doing work at the fort where he was stationed and they discovered the skeleton of a soldier who had been walled in (alive?) years before. Wonder where Poe got some of his ideas? Boston maybe?

Born in Boston, died in Baltimore. Simple. Everywhere else was a stop in between.
