Sotomayor's Most Notable Decisions: What Do You Think?

Posted July 13, 2009

Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nearly 17 years on the federal bench means that she could bring more federal judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any justice in a century. As a judge on the U.S. Appeals Court for the Second Circuit, Sotomayor has heard more than 3,000 court cases and written more than 380 majority opinions. Her long judicial record means that she's tackled some of the nation's most hot-button issues from abortion to affirmative action.

Notable decisions ?

Despite the endorsements and testimony by some fellow jurists and the legal community at her confirmation hearings of her judicial expertise and balance, Judge Sotomayor seems to demonstrate a persistent reluctance to apply the basic concepts of US legal precedence in her rulings. This is troubling because legal precedence is at the heart of our common law system. In contrast, the Judge seems to willingly embrace "novel" legal concepts outside the norm that are more in keeping with the application of European legal approaches to contemporary US problems as if we were already under a world-wide system of government. The vast majority of Americans would not agree that contemporary European legal concepts meet the needs of our citizens or our legal system. Even more troubling is Judge Sotomayor's unwillingness to recognize the inconsistency of her legal analyses with the very system she has sworn to uphold. We are not yet governed by the United Nations or the World Court, as much as Democratic Progressives would wish. I hope that in her new role, Judge Sotomayor does not feel compelled to adopt their solutions to our problems. One can only hope that the gravity of her new role will encourage her to embrace and apply legal concepts that are more in keeping with the basic values of our citizenry. Time will tell.

Sotomayer-Ricci Case

She isn't qualified, affirmative action has resulted in unqualified public servants throughout government and many industries, thus poor service and lousy performance.Tests should be required in this case and if they don't pass to bad they shouldn't get the job,has nothing to do with race or discrimination. She was appointed by a liberal and is a liberal. She is a learning justice at this new highest level.Made good media coverage for Obama seems like he will do about anything for that media coverage. I believe he has set a record for fundraising and campaigning while in Office as President in US History

Respect Our Constitution

It is obvious that Judge Stomayor does not understand or respect our Bill OF Rights or The Constitution, the foremost freedom document ever written. The Constitution was written by men who understood about Freedom and Liberty they sacrificed everything to make us free from tyranny. These documents should never be changed as some anti Constitution politicans want to eliminate our Rights and Freedoms.
