Obama and Cuba
End the Embargo! May we finally have sensible relations with Cuba.
Criminalizing HIV
Hi Sue - The answer is simple. It's not those who KNOW they have HIV that are spreading it the most. Sure there are those unscrupulous people who should be criminalized. And actually, I've known someone who is in very hot water for this exact reason. He actually does face sentencing. But before you make such comments I'd do your research. Then you'll come to realized this epidemic is happening because of the uneducated or UNDER-educated people who haven't learned how to protect themselves.
I'm HIV-, and my partner of 5+ years is HIV+. From day one, we've used protection, and I will always be negative because I am not having unprotected sex with my partner (or strangers).
You cannot go around criminalizing people for having sex. Personally, I'd like to go around criminalizing people for being stupid, but that's not how it works either.
Everyone is able to protect themselves, practically 100%. It's more important to educate people on the importance. If they choose not to protect themselves, they take the risk. If you drive without your seat belt, there's no one to blame but yourself.
Quit blaming everyone else and take some responsibility for yourself. That's America's problem... quit pointing the finger and look at the others fingers pointing back at yourself.
Criminalizing HIV
What happened to the old fashion way of meeting people? We had to meet prospective interests face to face and all the nasty dirty thoughts had to be suppressed and controlled. Now everyone meets people online. They make false profiles of themselves, lie about their age and start relationships with someone so different from who they really are. Lies....and more lies to cover up those lies. So now we have gay men "hooking up" online, lying about their HIV status and spreading HIV with no consequences. Married men, experimenting doing the same. Why do people who steal, drink while driving, kill, etc.. face criminal charges but people who give an unknowing individual a deadly viral disease not criminal? If they faced criminal charges it would drop HIV in the US and other STDs exponentially. Instead the HIV community demands reasearchers find more treatment options, vaccines because they dont want to die. what gives them the right to kill another person?
Obama's options on travel to Cuba
It is not enough for President Obama to provide general licenses for unlimited Cuban American travel as he pledged during the campaign and in the Democratic Platform.
He has the power to grant non-discriminatory general licenses to eleven other categories of non-tourist travel, including educational, religious, humanitarian, sports, cultural and "support for the Cuban people. At the same time he can do away with the cumbersome registration requirements for Travel Service Providers so all US travel agents and tour operators can book flights and accommodations for eligible travelers.

normalization with Cuba
I came to the
I came in 1962 to the U.S via the Peter Pan flights... I was supoused to be in Miami, according to most grown-ups at the time, for "only a few months".
Forty- six years later, I am totally convinced that those "grown-ups" are the only ones supporting the embargo... The same people who send money to relatives because "all Cubans in Cuba should suffer so they can rise against Castro, but not my family".
END THE EMBARGO!!.That way Castro has no more excuses for his failures and, at the same time, the economic and cultural impact of the U.S. upon the island will
probably destroy the system.
Yes, we are the silent majority Cubans.

normalization with Cuba
To privately send American dollars to Cuba is a bad idea, trade is a good idea. Above board taxable and non disctiminatory. The privately sending money to family is the same problem we have with illegal labor from other latin nations. It also muddies the waters on where the money goes such as to illegal drug and people traffic. Support for families can come from loosening restrictions from the Cuba side. Maybe that's what the Russians can help make happen.....it's not all up to the United States...
