powerful russia and china

china and russia must unite against the US. do not let the american harm you and your allies.show to the american your strength with military cooperation.i know you are agood combination to lead the world. deatroy american imperialism!

I do not like this.

I beleive that this writer is bending the words in this situation. He says that we have a part to pay for having Russia invaid Georgia. This is not true. Russia wanted to invaid Georgia so that the Europeans will still need to relay on them for oil. Georgia was making a pipeline around Russia so the Europeans could get oil from other places than Russia. Russia invaided Georgia because they soposidly had Russian citizens in Georgia that were being hurt, but that isnt true. These citzens of Russia were really citzens of Georgia but Russia came in and asked the Gorginians if they wanted to be Russian which is illegal. Then they pressured Georgias goverment to make a move, and when they did Russia invaided with 1600 tanks. How can you explain why the tanks were right on the border waiting for a reason to move in. And all of this has nothing to do with America. This is between Georgia and Russia.

Civil war

Former soviet republics have a many-century relationship with Russia, the same history. Georgian citizens don't support Saakashvili, not the majority of the country. They used to live friendly with Russia, Russia is more closed to them, than US and NATO. Saakashvili is only US pawn. Citizens can give up supporting him. When next war conflict will happen, and it's go without saying, military men can refuse to fight.

The same situation in Ukraine.

The Crimea's inhabited mostly by russians. 3 out of 4 ukraine people don't want Ukraine to join NATO.

Saakashvili and Uschenko are playing with fire. The split in the counries can play a mean joke with its presidents.

If they frozen relationship with Russia, that can cause a lot of ecomonic problems, and citizens impeached government.

In case of war conflict... it is frightful to present what will be with peace in our world.

Russia's useful vulnerability

An interesting suggestion from Steve Levine. The Russians have a big weakness. Bush, Obama and McCain should keep in mind Russia's Achilles Heel as they deal with Putin and Medvedev. Levine knows this area, having covered wars in Chechnya, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Tajikistan as well as the Soviet-Afghan war: http://oilandglory.com/2008/08/russias-achilles-heel.html

Plan

Plan is to surround Russia and China by putting Anti-Missile systems in countries that boarders them. Those boarding countries may be included in NATO or with similar bilateral treaties that puts them under US security umbrella while they host Anti-Missile systems on their soil. Objective being to neutralize Russia and Chinas strategic missiles to achieve nuclear superiority needed for a unipolar world order.

Russia lost former Soviet Caucasian states Georgia and Azerbaijan

Russia agression activity and killing innocent people in Georgia isn't new practice. In 1989 was destroyed peaceful demonstration in Tbilisi (capital of Georgia) with helping military troops and when was killed more civilian people. After than in Baku (capital of Azerbaijan) during the Soviet Army military operation were killed 131 and wounded 800 innocent people. More those people were killed in Baki into them home and house. When Soviet leadership was based them activity with Islamic Revolution threat in Azerbaijan. Really situation on that time in Baku we can connected with ours ideas "building the intependence state in Azerbaijan".

After RF helped to Armenia to occupy a Azerbaijani lands and support this occupation in United Nation, when UN Security Counsul pass 4 resolution about result this occupation. Now Russian military base in Armenia was used for bombing Georgian territory (Western expert always said that Russian military presence in Armenia linked with Turkey threating to Armenia). Now Russia use conflict zone in Caucasus for strengthen its inflience in regional matters.

But I hope our Georgian friends win psychological warfare or eliminate/remove barriers after this war and guarantee in public opinion steadfastness in Euro-Atlantic integration prosess.

It was clear stated that Georgians attacked innocent Ossetian people.

Georgia

I don't understand what's going on with mass-media!!!!

Russia helped South Ossetian people from Georgian aggressors!

Georgian started killing innocent people.

Russia will never live Georgia until Russians are sure that Ossetians are safe. Georgian president will be punished in the Court for murdering innocent people. I think Russia did the right thing and will continue do it in spite of US reaction. US is in financial crisis right now and if US goes against Russia that would be a huge mistake for US, because European countries will not allow US take a control over Europe. Europe supports Russia. Big deal that Saakashvili had education in US! The terrorist, who destroy twin towers, got education in CA! It doesn't mean that Saakashvili can kill innocent people of South Ossetia!

Forget the NATO Aspirations

To John of VA:

Please note that Georgia and Ukraine do not deserve to be in the NATO. Neither do Baltic States and other Eastern European countries. When Gorbachev and Reagan put an end to the Cold War, a mutual agreement (not on paper and therefore abused nowadays) was that the alliance would not expand into the former Warsaw bloc countries. Despite opposition from Germany, France and other Western European countries, the U.S. government started literrally "dragging" former Soviet republics (Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia) and its allies (Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc) into the NATO. Why are they doing this? By increasing the number NATO members, the new loyal ones help the U.S. outnumber in votes the western (old NATO) members.

The real question though is what the U.S. is trying to achieve? Isolate Russia and alienate its former allies against it? For centuries Russia was shielding off agressors from the west. But in the technological age and with declining population, Russians are already backed against the wall and "nuclear response" WILL soon be the proportionate way to prevent neocon's ambitions. Maybe America needs a wake-up call. Maybe Russians should accept Chavez's offer to deploy some missiles and nuclear submarines in Venezuela. I'm sure Cuba won't mind either. At least, Russians have enough common sense not to initiate this. I'm afraid the US Government doesn't as State Secretary Rice once said that Russia has way too much natural resources and land for its population.

In your mentioning of the bully, I clearly see the burden of the Cold War upbringing. Ukranians shoulder to shoulder fought with Russians throughout centuries against western agressors (polish, swedes, Napoleon, Hitler, etc). Eastern part of Ukraine has very close ties to Russia and despises its current pro-western government. Today it's no secret that Washington sponsored the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, Rose Revolution in Georgia, and Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan. And the free and wonderful U.S. media portrays this government as democratically elected and bullied by Russia, which by the way paid a high price to save these brotherly nations in the past. How far are they going to push their own agenda as I cannot see any benefits for American citizens in conflicts on the other side of the globe when there more than enough problems at home. Eventually we're responsible for the actions of leaders we elect today.

Two Wrongs don't make a right!

Serbia's Genocide in Kosovo and Georgia's retaking of Ossetia don't make a right. The two big powers Russia and the United States played their cards and neither one appeared to get what they expected out of the deal.

Kosovo should still be an anonymous part of Serbia and not totally independent. Ossettia and the other break away section is majority Russian and Pro-Russian so they should have just been melded into the Russian Federation and this little piece of antagonism would not have erupted into a conflict, because Russia would not have cause to use force.

It would have strengthened Georgia's hand since they had nothing that Russia wanted directly and they would be headed towards membership in NATO.

It is amazing how little guys act quite bigger than they are when they have a big brother or protector. But they should look at all the facts now. We are heavily involved in Iraq and Afghanistan and we can't branch off into Georgia over two of those pro-russian enclaves.

Diplomatically, giving russia those enclaves and admitting Georgia into NATO would have been a balancing act that could of worked.

WE should send additional advisors and equipment to Georgia to shore up the President in his hour of need and not look like we are abandoning him totally.

My major warning is that if we in NATO don't stand together in a crisis like this, Russia will continue to be the Bully and antagonize in the region.

Georgia and the Unkraine deserve to be apart of NATO in the future and the quicker the better. This is the only way to keep the unruly bear in check. (By threat of retaliation).

As for the US, we need to get our ducks in a row in Iraq and move our troops into Afghanistan to quell the rise of the Taliban. We need to reincorporate the Draft ASAP and get back to having a 1 Million man and woman Army with a cap on how many women can be part of the Army. We have to refocus on what really is important in this world "Freedom", Human rights and standing up to bullies like Russia.

Set your values high and don't compromise them away. You win more than you lose and you maintain the respect of the world as a super power. right now we are doing dismally bad.
