Why the Pentagon Thinks Attacking Iran is a Bad Idea

No one wants a nuclear Iran, but U.S. military leaders worry about the risks and strains of a third war

economic crash

This country will go belly up if we enter another war. Let the Iranians be. They have done no harm. If Israel wants to attack them, let them attack and let them fight this out themselves. We have suffered enough in the last 7 years and cannot afford another war, much less WWIII, if Russia and China come to defend Iran.

A back door pimple !

Just as a pimple on ones rear end is a nuisance it will get worse if not treated and gotten rid of.When you have a fire you stop it at the source before the house burns down.Issue Bush and Chaney some uniforms and Kick them out of a C130 over Iran, then our problem will be solved.( Send along the Dallas Cowboys for back-up)

IRAN WAR

A WAR WITH IRAN WOULD BE DEVASTATING FOR THE U.S. I DON'T WANT TO SOUND DOOMSDAY, BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE THE END. THE BETTER IDEA IS RECALL ALL OF OUR TROOPS, SURE UP ALL OF OUR BORDERS WITH THESE TROOPS. AND TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN FOR A CHANGE. LET'S END POVERTY AND HUNGER IN OUR OWN COUNTRY AND LET THESE UNGRATEFUL COUNTRIES FEND FOR THEM SELVES. IT'S TIME WE TELL THE REST OF THE WORLD TO KISS OFF.

ALL OUR PROBLEMS SOLVED!!

In reading this article it says basically that the white house is the one doing the deciding... this attitude has prevailed for so long people swallow it hook line and sinker... The constituition says congress shall have the power to make war, not the sorry%$#@ execuitive branch who continually ursurps power by sheer arrogance... I voted for King George twice(sorry) and he deserves impeachment more than any other president due to his unconstituional power grabs and one world agendas. IF POLITICIANS would quit lying when they say they will uphold, protect and defend the constituion and ACTUALLY obey it, 95% of our problems would go away.. secure the borders, bring home troops, quit empire building, pay our bills, reduce government, these are ideas straight out of the constituition.. and history proves they work... avoid foreign entanglements, duh!! come on congress grow a pair!! impeach the bum and vote on some issues!! or as Glenn Beck says get out your pitchforks and clean out washington,,, ask your canadates what they think of the constituition, is it, quote: a "living document" that can be intrepreted different ways? or a granite block of truth that everyone MUST obey? if they choose #1 get rid of them.....

So. Iran (an NPT signatory that hasn't attacked anyone in decades) is pursuing reasonable diplomacy, showing that it's not building nukes (corroborated by every single inspection & piece of intelligence available), and not threatening anyone (because let's not forget that Ahmainejad has never made any threats against Israel, despite the Israeli-controlled media's ubiquitous lies to the contrary).

Meanwhile, Israel (a belligerent rogue terrorist state guilty of countless war crimes and acts of aggression through its entire existence, and a nuclear-armed non-NPT signatory) makes no secret that it's hell-bent on the US launching yet another invasion of a sovereign nation that poses no threat, or else starting the attack themselves.

Seems perfectly obvious that Olmert and co. are the terrorists we really need to be thwarting.

IRAN WAR - WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

Iran has Russian and Chinese supplied missile defence systems that would cause major problems for US Navy and Air Force.

Iran has huge energy contracts with China, Russia, India and other important nations. All these countries would be economically threatened by any military attack on Iran.

The global price of oil would skyrocket. Why doesn't the mainstream media take this potential disaster seiously?

Somesthings you left out

This article discusses 3 options on dealing with preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon, but leaves out some key points:

1. Attack Iran -- besides all the horrible negative consequences and likelihood that it would cause Iran to start a REAL crash nuclear weapons program -- Americans would be outraged at Israel and AIPAC for dragging it into a war where they have to pay $8/gallon for gas, and see more American soldiers and sailors get killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf -- and with no exit plan or good result. Strike 1.

2. Sanctions and "negotiations" -- the article does not mention the key sticking point is U.S. and Israeli insistence on zero Uranium enrichment, which is and always has been a non-starter, not only with the Iranian government but the people. Too many countries want Iran's oil and natural gas for sanctions to work. Strike 2.

3. Accepting an Iranian nuclear weapon. Why cave in on this when there are better proposals out there, similar to one which Iran itself has proposed in 2005? Everyone should read Luers, Pickering and Walsh's proposal in the March International Herald Tribune (http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/03/03/opinion/edluers.php?page=2). A combination of limited enrichment with international supervision, intrusive inspections, and safeguards would assure the world that Iran is truly not developing a nuclear weapon, and give us far more assurance than we have right now. Why isn't the media giving this idea more attention, instead of forcing us to think there are only 3 terrible options?

And why aren't we hearing about common ground between the US and Iran in stabilizing Iraq and defeating the Taliban in Afghanistan?

N. Korea redux

I have been telling everyone who will listen (not many) for the past six years that if W. wasn't willing to stop N. Korea after they openly declared they were pulling out of the NPT and would make nuclear weapons, then he certainly wouldn't stop Iran. N. Korea has no oil and no friends, except maybe China, and then only as a buffer to the U.S. Iran has lots of oil and plenty of countries who need them, which makes for the best type of friends.

If the U.S. isn't willing to elect leaders who will do the right thing to protect us, it is a little late to complain about the situation now. (And no, spending $3T invading the wrong country does not protect us, regardless of what the Neocons say.)

Attacking Iran
