Hot Docs: The Anthrax Case, Reducing Greenhouse Gases, Criticisms of Fuel Standards, and More

Amerithrax Court Documents: The FBI posts several dozen documents related to the investigation, dubbed Amerithrax, into the deadly anthrax mailings in 2001. The documents, unsealed yesterday in federal court, include search warrants, affidavits, and other filings.

President Bush Participates in Joint Press Availability With President Lee Myung-Bak of the Republic of Korea: President Bush, traveling in Asia, holds a press conference with South Korean President Lee in which the leaders discuss North Korea, human rights in China, and the trade relationship between the two countries.

EPA Provides Analyses of Greenhouse Gas Reductions From Transportation: The Environmental Protection Agency releases its analyses of potential ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and petroleum use that it conducted in response to a request from the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The document, which compiles the EPA's research, includes an examination of plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Fuel Economy and Auto Sales: Automakers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Ignore Market Signals: The Consumer Federation of America faults current NHTSA fuel-efficiency goals for not going far enough. The group cites heavy consumer demand for efficient cars as evidence that the public has an appetite for efficient and alternative-fuel vehicles.

Parent and Family Involvement in Education, 2006–07 School Year, From the National Household Education Surveys Program of 2007: The National Center for Education Statistics, part of the Department of Education, announces the first results from its 2007 survey of parents of school-age children. Among the findings: Fifty-nine percent of respondents say they are "very satisfied" with their child's school, and 70 percent of parents with older children anticipate that the students will go on to attain at least a bachelor's degree.

National Health Statistics Reports: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics released several studies that illustrate how Americans seek medical care at doctors' offices and hospitals. One study found that the overall number of visits increased by 26 percent over a 10-year period and that the average waiting time for emergency room care is now 56 minutes.
