Executive Order: Further Amendments to Executive Order 12333, United States Intelligence Activities President Bush's new executive order revising rules for intelligence agencies expands the national intelligence director's powers. The order is being criticized by civil liberties groups, in part over intelligence agency access to citizen information held by other government agencies. In addition, some lawmakers complain that the changes were made without input from Congress. This White House webpage includes links to the press secretary's statement, the text of the executive order, and a fact sheet: A Lasting Framework for United States Intelligence Activities.

Homeward Bound: Recent Immigration Enforcement and the Decline in the Illegal Alien Population The Center for Immigration Studies finds statistical evidence that the illegal population has declined significantly. The evidence indicates that since hitting a peak in the summer of 2007, the illegal population may have declined by 11 percent through May 2008. Increased enforcement is at least partly responsible for this decline.
