Blog Buzz: McCain's 'Important'" Quote, Boren's Non-Endorsement, and Vice Presidential Chatter

Posted June 11, 2008

Our daily look at stories and topics lighting up the Internets:

How "important" is this McCain quote?

What exactly did Sen. John McCain mean when he said this morning that when U.S. troops come home from Iraq is "not too important"? Decide for yourself: TPM's Josh Marshall posts the video (and suggests that within a day or so McCain will deny ever having said it). Then read liberals blasting him for the comments (including saying it's a redux of his comments about staying in Iraq for 100 years) and conservatives coming to his defense (including saying it's a redux of his comments about staying in Iraq for 100 years, with attendant Dem-agoguery).

Obama not OK with Boren

Dem Dan Boren won't endorse Obama because, he says, the Illinoisan is the most liberal senator in the country. Hunter at DailyKos says: So what? Is this a 2008 Sister Souljah moment?

Veepstakes

WashMo's Kevin Drum says that there should be no litmus test for the Democratic VP pick...and it doesn't matter anyway. McCain-Bloomberg? Not so much. Obama-Nunn? There's a case in favor. Why no Obama-Hagel talk in the latest round of speculation? Obama-Webb? Nay votes from both right and left.
