Blog Buzz: Friday Roundup, From the Vice Presidency to Wiretapping to Colbert

Posted June 6, 2008

Our daily look at stories and topics lighting up the Internets:

Veepstakes

Obama-Edwards. Or not. Obama-Strickland? NRO's Jim Geraghty says the GOP would be ready. The Huffington Post's Earl Ofari Hutchinson thinks putting another liberal Democrat such as HRC on the ticket would be "the ultimate political gift from heaven" to McCain. WashPo's Chris Cillizza at The Fix gives a roundup for both parties.

Looking forward: general talk about the election

DemFromCT at Daily Kos looks at Gallup polling and decides that the GOP has become a regional (Southern) party. Ed Kilgore at Democratic Strategist says that Hillary Clinton's speech Saturday will mark an important moment in the battle for her primary voters. TNR's The Plank has suggestions from William Galston on how Obama should run against McCain. TNR's Noam Scheiber, writing at The Stump, argues against the notion of joint town-hall meetings.

Libs flip over McCain wiretapping flop

That McCain was against warrantless wiretapping before he was for it has sent the liberal side of the blogosphere into more fits. That was then, this is now, says Hilzoy, guesting over at WashMo's Political Animal. Steve Benen at CarpetBagger thinks such a flip is par for McCain. Spencer on Attackerman thinks that spokesman Tucker Bounds, who delivered an "elegant" reply when called out on McCain's flip-flopping on wiretapping, should pull a Scott McClellan while the publishing houses are still hot.

Obama wants to turn blue states pinko? Not so fast

Tom DeLay's assertion that Obama is a commie until proven otherwise gets polite rebukes from Paul at Power Line and Buzz colleague James Pethokoukis. Daily Kos's Hunter has a reply that, umm, is less well-mannered.

Colbert reads Blog Buzz

Buzz fans will recall that Wednesday's edition speculated that McCain spoke in front of the weird green screen on Tuesday night in hopes that bloggers might replace it with more a interesting backdrop. Well, noted talk-meister Stephen Colbert must read the Buzz, because he took up the gauntlet and has invited his viewers to do the same. Thanks for crediting us, Stephen! (Hat tip to RedState for noting the Colbert contest.)

voting in '08

i too have voted demo always but am voting repub even if hillary is the vp, i hope not...i take great odds w/the press and all media's input in this election and feel they are working hard to elect obama....its an outrage...i sit and watch until i cant watch anymore knowing the average american is so busy trying to pay bills, etc just digest what the media throws out there and myself is crying what can i do?

its been very difficult watching them not give hillary any coverage and now starting the same w/mccain...what to do?

President Obama

All these "Bitter" people that say the will vote for John McCain in November are just that, "Bitter". They complain about the War, they complain about the high prices of gas, they complain about the econmy.

Well, I guess they like to complain, because a vote for McCain is just another vote for George Bush. It's people like this that I would prefer not to have them even dream about being a Democrat.

But it really doesn't matter anyway. The President is elected from the "Electorial College." Obama probably has enough Republician votes he may not even need the Democratic votes.

So, to all you ship jumping McCainacrats, go ahead and vote for McCain. But when the econmy is back in order and, the war is over and, gas prices have went down, don't go out and lie to your friends and say "I voted for Obama". Lier's

chris matthews,tim russert

everytime chris.m. or t. russert slams hillary it makes me want to pull the lever for mccain and i will come november. matthews makes me want to throw up when he says that obama makes a quiver go all the way up his leg and in a screaming tone says we have to get the clintons out .he had spit all over his mouth and looked quite insane.t russert looked like an ole drunk and his eyes were wild and as big as boiled eggs when he declared that obama had won after the indiana primary and that hillary should quit. I think that everyone that backs hillary should vote for mccain and boycot msnbc. also.obama is a wolf in sheeps clothing and I hope the wool is going to get ripped off of him soon. he reminds me of a smug thug. I will vote for a republican for the first ime in my life even if hillary runs for v.p.with obama.
