Today in History, May 15: Mickey Mouse, Stewardesses, and Nylon
1756—England declares war on France, beginning the Seven Years' War.
1928—Mickey Mouse makes his first appearance in the silent cartoon Plane Crazy.
1930—Ellen Church becomes the first airline stewardess, flying for United Airlines.
1940—Nylon stockings go on sale at stores nationwide. They are a huge success for DuPont, the company responsible for the invention of nylon.
1972—George Wallace is shot five times by Arthur Bremer while campaigning for the presidency. He survives the assassination attempt but is left paralyzed.
