Blog Buzz: Arianna, McCain, and Bush, Gas Tax and Political Hot Air, and More

Posted May 6, 2008

Stories and topics lighting up the Internet today include:

Gas Tax and Hot Air

The great gas-tax debate of 2008 continues to fuel the blogosphere, with Josh Marshall wondering why Team Obama has been so inept at deflating the Clinton plan. The search goes on for an economist who will back Clinton (who, of course, has no truck with them pointy-heads anyway). By the way, McCain supports a gas tax holiday, too—has anyone noticed?  And Clinton's assertion that she will take down OPEC also gets some notice from Spence Ackerman.

The Democratic Primary Ends!...in Indiana and North Carolina

Everyone has a quick summary of what to watch tonight. Buzz likes WashPo's The Fix, the Democratic Strategist, and Times's Mark Halperin via Media Matters's Eric Alterman. NRO gives us a predictions roundup. TNR reminds us that it's as much about expectations as performance.

John's McJustice

McCain spoke at Wake Forest today (or wait—was it West Virginia?) about his judicial philosophy. His blast against imaginary inherent powers was aimed at the judicial, but not executive branch, and it drew praise on the right for being substantive and, well, right.

Polling, Polling, Polling

Kos looks at the yearlong fav/unfav numbers for Obama and Clinton and finds surprising inflexibility, while elsewhere on the same site is a look at primary polls' poor record for accuracy so far this year.

Arianna, McCain, and Bush

Arianna strikes back at McCain and company over the "did-he-or-didn't-he" question of who McCain voted for in 2000. Allahpundit wonders whether a McCain-for-Gore (or—haha—Nader?) vote might not redound to the Arizonan's benefit. Nevertheless, the National Review remains, umm, skeptical.
